Dr. G. Swaminathan is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research, Coimbatore. He earned his Ph.D. from IIT Madras, specializing in smart materials with a focus on shape memory alloys, and holds a Master's degree in Manufacturing Engineering from MIT, Anna University.
He received the Institute Research Award from IIT Madras for the best Ph.D. thesis work for the academic year 2022–23, and was also awarded a Post-Doctoral Equivalent Fellowship by IIT Madras for a period of six months.
His research interests include shape memory alloys, smart materials, advanced engineering materials, material testing and characterization, failure analysis, and physical metallurgy. He has authored several research papers in SCI-indexed journals and has published two patents. Also, he has presented his works at international conferences, including one held abroad with funding support from IIT Madras
In addition to his academic and research activities, he has been actively involving in industrial consultancy projects for leading MNCs, such as Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and Addison Tools Pvt. Ltd., primarily focusing on material testing, characterization, and failure analysis.
