His cremation and service, still to be arranged, will be in Watford with a small family presence due to the Covid19 restrictions. Ray Francis Joaquim Peter Gonsalves, the first of a twin with his brother Ralph was born on 21st June 1943 in Nairobi Kenya. Following his education at the Dr. Ribeiro Goan School,

he worked in the finance department of the Ministry of Works until 1969 when he left for the UK. He worked as a dark room technician in the X-Ray department in the Middlesex Hospital in central London; which later merged to become University College London Hospital, where he worked in the newly founded Imaging Department until his retirement in 2008.

He was an active member of the church. At St Charles Borromeo Church in Ogle Street he served at the lunch time Mass, and at Holy Rood Church in Watford he used to serve and help in the sacristy on Saturdays, on Sundays he helped in the sacristy in Sacred Heart and St John the Evangelist Church in Bushey. After retirement he took on the roles of sacristan and server at many of the weekday Masses and was relied on for most funeral masses. This he did until his illness in May 2019 forced him to stop.

He enjoyed participating in the Sacred Heart Parish holidays and pilgrimages; enjoying in particular the annual Westminster Diocese pilgrimage to Lourdes.

Ray was very fond of his many nieces and nephews and was very happy in the company of his great nieces and nephews.

Sadly the year long illness, a long standing heart condition took their toll on him and he passed away in the early hours of Sunday 3rd May 2020.
