Husband to Catherine, father to Peter Paul, Bridget and Bernadette. Son of the late Peter Paul and the late Mariana D'Costa. Brother to Edith/Abbas Shah (deceased), Alice/Thompson (deceased), Robert/Marie (Basingstoke UK), Ethel/Hygino (Canada), Freddy/Sandra (Slough UK).

Irineu spent his early years of education at boarding school in Belgaum, India, later moving to Kenya to join his parents and complete his studies at the Dr. ribeiro Goan School. Having lost his father at an early age, he took on the responsibility of looking after his siblings. He was an active member of the boy scouts as Scout Master. He loved the outdoor life and enjoyed camping and hunting wild game with some of his mates, Eddy Rodrigues, Michael Louis, Jack Carvalho and James and Agnelo Costa Bir. He worked for Motor Mart, the Kenya Police force, and later joined the Renault motor company. On migrating to the UK, Renault offered him a position in Manchester, UK. He was an avid keep-fit enthusiast and attended weight training everyday over the years.

Irineu is deeply mourned by his family and many nephews and nieces and friends.
