Class of 68 Reunion in Goa
(2012)
Class of 68 has been in a newsgroup since 2009. We are in touch with each other after 40 odd years, and are absolutely loving it. Thanks to the support of the DRGS website team who helped us get started and continues to assist us whenever we need help.
My name is Eva Fonseca (nee Fernandes), and I manage the Class of 68 Newsgroup, together with other classmates. If you need to contact us to find out about people in our class please contact me on evahfonseca@gmail.com. For privacy reasons, I will contact the person you are interested in making contact, and get them to get in touch with you.
Class of 68 has had a reunion in Goa – February 2012. It was quite amazing to meet up after 40 years. We met at Martin’s Corner – Marjorda, onwards to Baga, Spice Farm around Ponda area and met in Panjim. Accommodation was at each one’s village or hotel, and we met during the day. We also had a mass and tour at Old Goa.
Fr. Levis Gomes who is the Rector at the Retreat Centre at Baga which is run by the Jesuit priests did a special service for us. Fr. Levis is from Uganda and was delighted to celebrate Mass and a blessing service for us in an informal but intimate setting. The retreat centre is situated at Baga which is after Calangute in Bardez, North Goa. It is at the very end of a promontory, at the mouth of the river, situated at the top of a small hillock and is solely for the use of the centre. There are steps going up, with the reward of a spectacular view of the bay from the top. The Centre is rustic and has a small chapel – it was just an amazing spiritual experience being there..
Fr Levis currently is in hospital – he had a car accident and is still recovering from his injuries. Please say a prayer for him.
I cannot tell you all DRGS students, how wonderful it is to keep in touch and to read what is happening in our school – in our lives there are defining moments, our schooling was just that, and I am sure all you will fondly remember the good and the bad times we had in school. We remember simple things like the ‘cupboard’ shop, the school team colours, playing 7 tiles with the boys at lunchtimes, eating pepetas, victorias, and mangoes with chili powder and salt. We also recall our teachers – Torcato, Nunes, Stanley, Mrs Estelita, and many more…
Onwards, Class of 68 are meeting in Oporto Portugal this May from 22-26 May – we shall certainly report thereafter…
