Dr. Griffin is an Omaha native who has worked and lived in her State Board of Education district, District 4, for her entire life. She is a fourth generation Nebraska resident.

As a graduate of Omaha Central High School, former Teacher and Principal in the Omaha Public Schools for well over 26 years, she was positively recognized  for “beating the odds” ; advancing the academic growth and achievement of  her staff and their students; encouraging parent engagement; and  putting into effect innovative practices that dismantle the school to prison pipeline.
