I'm Drew Schulz, an active performer and educator throughout the Midwest. I have a background in both performance and education.
As a performer, I give solo and chamber recitals in the northwest Arkansas region as well as performing with various large ensembles throughout the Midwest and Ozark regions. Most recently I have played with the Southeast Iowa Symphony, Quincy Illinois Symphony, and the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra. I also perform regularly with various student ensembles at the University of Arkansas - Fayetteville.
As an educator I teach students of all ages and skill levels, as well as providing clinics to high school band programs and high school horn sections throughout the Midwest and Ozark regions.
Sometimes it can be difficult for directors to find the time to teach students on a one-on-one level, that's where I come in. Whether I work with students in the school or at another location, I work diligently to develop goal based lesson plans to help students reach their playing goals.
When working with students I do everything I can to help them reach their technical goals. Most often these goals are things like making honor band, getting a good rating at solo and ensemble, or even just hitting higher or lower notes more consistently. I also do my best to help my students develop an artistic voice.
Since 2019 I have maintained an in person studio as well as a zoom studio. While teaching over Zoom was a necessity during the pandemic, it has become a vital tool in the "post-pandemic" world. It has allowed me to work with students in busy families that may have difficulties making it to an in person lesson, as well as students who live in areas that lack access to private horn instruction.
In my free time I enjoy reading, watching hockey (go Redwings), and hanging out with my cat Violet.
I teach students of all ages and skill levels, as well as providing clinics to band directors and music educators.
