There are lots of styles of sleeves: puff sleeves, flutter sleeves, cap sap sleeves, wing, long sleeves, cuffed sleeves, bell sleeves, you get the point. A number of these sleeves work well for doll clothes. In other lessons I will cover kinds of sleeves, tweaking a sleeve, and sleeve construction, but in this post I thought I'd start with an easy sleeve.

Although the sleeve can be attached to either your basic reversible dress, the dress with facings or the dress with the gathered skirt, my instructions or for the Peter Pan collar dress or the Reversible Dress. The beginning instructions are similar, so refer to the Peter Pan collar dress lesson but the armhole instructions are different.

Next, you want to sew the lining fabric and the dress fabric together at the armhole edge. It is important that the wrong sides are together. I used a bright visible thread, which can be helpful for aligning the sleeve.

The method I used is a great way to create your own pattern for a garment from an existing item you may have that you know fits you well. You can tweak this basic guide to create more customized looks that you feel good in. Follow along as I share how to make your own baby doll dress (and pattern).

Step Two: This particular baby doll dress has a lined bodice, so we will be cutting a front piece and a back piece on the fold from our main fabric. Then we will cut additional front and back pieces on the fold for our lining.

With the scraps from your fat quarter, you can cut some stars and applique them on a shirt so you can have a coordinating doll/girl outfit. If you need tips on how to do simple applique, I posted that HERE.

Really easy, really simple to do for adults or kids. The hair bow matches the dress lovely.

We observed in the last picture, the girl has her shirt embellished with the same fabric pattern

the doll is wearing. Good idea!

Oh, this if perfect for my granddaughter, who is a beginner sewer. She recently got a great beginner sewing machine for her birthday and I know she will want to sew this for her American Girl doll. I will share this post with her. Thank you! ?

Want to learn how to make a simple but cute rag doll dress? This tutorial will show you how to make your own doll dress for ANY rag doll (in fact, even plastic dolls!) The pattern is simple and the possibilities are endless!

You will love how easy this tutorial is, and you will love even more how endlessly customizable this dress is. Use this pattern as the base, and go wild from there!First: Learn my top doll clothes making tips as well as supplies you might need in this guide!

Next, measure on your doll from the waist line up to the bottom of the arm. This is your side seam measurement. On your paper, measure up from the bottom hem mark the same amount as the side seam measurement and draw a line.Next, measure your doll from the waist pin to the neck pin. This is your bodice height measurement.

On your pattern, finish drawing the bodice by drawing a line straight out from the neckline mark, and making a boxy sleeve that is as wide as your sleeve measurement and as long as you wish.Notice that at the bottom of the sleeve, I curved the line from the sleeve down to the side seam to add some ease and make it easier to sew. You should also do this. Finally, add a 3/8ths inch seam allowance around your pattern, and cut it out on that line. This is the front of your doll bodice pattern, which we will use to make a dress!

Cut it out and now you have your pattern pieces! Now I will teach you how to use these patterns to make the dress!Step 2. Cut Out The Fabric Fold a piece of fabric in half, and align your front pattern piece on the fold, and cut out the fabric. The back piece is NOT cut on the fold like the front piece, and you will need to cut out two of them, one with the fabric facing right side up, and one with the fabric facing right side down. (So you end up with two opposites of the back piece.)

Fold each edge towards the wrong side of the bodice, about half an inch. Then pin it in place, and sew it down.Step 5. Hem The SleevesThe sleeves are also hemmed in this manner.Zig zag the bottom edge of each sleeve, then fold them towards the wrong side 3/8ths of an inch, and sew it down to hem.Step 6. Sew the Side Seams TogetherFold the bodice back together so the right sides are facing and the side seams are lined up.Sew down both side seams. This completes the bodice. Try it on your doll and it should fit!

Measure your doll and decide how long you want the skirt of the dress to be. Add an inch to that measurement for the skirt length.Open your finished bodice and measure the bottom. Multiply that measurement by 2 for the skirt width.Cut out a piece of fabric the width and length of the measurments you just took.To hem the skirt, fold the bottom edge over 3/8ths of an inch, then over again to hide the raw edge inside. Sew down the edge to hem it.Then, hem the two sides of the skirt the same way you did the bottom. Leave the top edge raw.

From the anime series "SPY x FAMILY" comes a Nendroid Doll of Yor Forger wearing her casual outfit. The Nendoroid Doll series of palm-sized action figures feature the same heads as standard Nendoroids, but alternate doll-like bodies that are highly articulated and can easily be dressed-up into different outfits! Be sure to add her to your collection!

i printed out your pattern for the 18 inch pinafore dress and the tutorial. I love the pattern and am in the process of making the dress now. The pattern piece for the waistband is only 6 inch long. Because there are no measurements given for any of the pieces, I assumed you meant to cut the 2 waistband pieces on the fold, otherwise the waistband is way too short. This is not mentioned in the pattern directions. If i was new at sewing I would be confused by this piece.

Thanks for a great pattern and wonderful instructions.

Thank you so much! My six year old granddaughter and I both love dolls and enjoy playing together with them. Now we can pick out materials to sew a variety of jumpers for our beloved dolls.

Wakana Gojo's passion for crafting hina dolls causes him to hide his interests due to social trauma. However, when his classmate Marin Kitagawa discovers his talent, she sees beyond his apparent idiosyncrasies and encourages him to create cosplay costumes. With Marin's support, Wakana steps out of his seclusion and begins to gain confidence. Working together, they create unique and beautiful costumes showcasing their talents and true selves.

I see so many possibilities with this little pattern. Cut it short to make a tunic-style shirt to pair with leggings. Add a ruffle to the bottom hem. Use two fabrics for a color blocked look. Add a tuxedo bib detail. Use it as the bodice for a dress and add a gathered skirt. Or turn it around and make a cardigan with little faux buttons over the velcro. Fun, fun, fun! ff782bc1db
