I am a neurologist and PhD student studying the bidirectional relationship between sleep and neurodegeneration. On the one hand, neurodegenerative disorders can disrupt the sleep-wake cycle and are associated with debilitating sleep disorders. At the same time, sleep alterations can provide insight into the pathophysiological processes of neurodegeneration. My PhD project focuses on analysing sleep micro-structure in isolated REM sleep behaviour disorder, which is a potential prodromal form of overt alpha-synucleinopathy.
