Also known as dreamsparks or jumpworlds by some people in-universe, worlds are the creations of elder gods. They exist in a strange dimension; from the god's perspective, it's just a mind palace or daydream, but they are very real to the mortals who live there. The world still has real effects on the god however - they grow tired if they expend too much energy creating it, and the destruction of a world has dire consequences for the god's sanity. Imagine if your brain were suddenly ripped out and scrambled, and the only thing holding your consciousness together is how big you are. Some gods have even died from the trauma. As you can imagine, elder gods are extremely possessive of their worlds, unless they choose to leave them behind voluntarily and create a new one. Godless worlds lose most, if not all, of their magic, and if younger gods are not left to look after it, the world will slowly lose all life, and even substance.Â
