Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 3, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how DrawOverlay ("the Extension", "we", "our")
handles information when you use the DrawOverlay Chrome browser extension.
By installing or using DrawOverlay, you agree to the terms described in
this Privacy Policy.
────────────────────────────────────────────
1. OVERVIEW
────────────────────────────────────────────
DrawOverlay is a drawing and annotation tool that lets you sketch, highlight,
and annotate directly on top of any webpage inside your browser. The
Extension operates entirely within your local browser environment.
We are committed to your privacy. DrawOverlay does not collect, store,
transmit, or share any personal information or browsing data with any
person, company, or server — including ourselves.
────────────────────────────────────────────
2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
────────────────────────────────────────────
DrawOverlay collects NO personal data, NO browsing history, NO page
content, and NO usage analytics.
The only information stored by the Extension is:
• Your drawing preferences — specifically your last selected drawing
color (e.g., "#e11d48") and stroke width (e.g., "3").
This preference data is stored exclusively using the browser's built-in
chrome.storage.local API. It is saved only on your own device. It is
never transmitted to any external server, database, or third party.
This data has no personally identifiable value and cannot be used to
identify you in any way.
────────────────────────────────────────────
3. HOW YOUR INFORMATION IS USED
────────────────────────────────────────────
The only data the Extension saves (your drawing color and stroke width
preferences) is used for one purpose only:
• To restore your last-used settings the next time you activate the
drawing overlay, so you do not have to reconfigure them each session.
This data is never analyzed, aggregated, profiled, or used for any
purpose beyond restoring your personal in-app preferences.
────────────────────────────────────────────
4. INFORMATION WE DO NOT COLLECT
────────────────────────────────────────────
DrawOverlay explicitly does NOT collect or access:
• Your name, email address, or any contact information
• Your location or IP address
• Your browsing history or visited URLs
• The content of any webpage you visit
• Any form input, passwords, or personal communications
• Financial, health, or authentication data
• User activity data (clicks, keystrokes, mouse movements)
• Screenshots or recordings of your screen
• Any data that could be used to identify you personally
────────────────────────────────────────────
5. DATA SHARING AND THIRD PARTIES
────────────────────────────────────────────
We do not sell, rent, trade, license, or transfer any user data — or
any information of any kind — to any third party.
DrawOverlay has no backend server, no analytics service, no advertising
network, and no cloud database. All processing happens locally within
your browser.
No third-party libraries, SDKs, trackers, or external scripts are loaded
by DrawOverlay at runtime.
────────────────────────────────────────────
6. PERMISSIONS — WHY WE NEED THEM
────────────────────────────────────────────
DrawOverlay requests the following Chrome permissions. Each permission is
used solely to enable the Extension's drawing functionality:
activeTab
Used to identify the currently active browser tab so the drawing
overlay can be shown or hidden on that tab when you click the Extension icon. The tab URL is
checked only locally to confirm the page is injectable. No URL data
is stored or sent anywhere.
scripting
Used as a fallback to inject the drawing overlay script into a tab
that was already open before the Extension was installed. Only the
Extension's own locally-bundled code is injected — no remote code
is ever fetched or executed.
storage
Used exclusively to save and restore your drawing color and stroke
width preferences using chrome.storage.local (on-device only).
Host Permission: <all_urls>
Required because the drawing overlay must work on any webpage you
visit — not just a fixed list of websites. Users may want to annotate
internal tools, documentation, localhost pages, or any other URL.
The Extension does not read, modify, or transmit any page content.
────────────────────────────────────────────
7. LOCAL STORAGE — YOUR CONTROL
────────────────────────────────────────────
The only data stored by the Extension is your drawing preferences in
chrome.storage.local. You can delete this data at any time by:
Option A: Uninstalling the DrawOverlay extension from Chrome.
Go to chrome://extensions → Find DrawOverlay → Remove.
This deletes all associated local storage immediately.
Option B: Clearing Extension storage from Chrome settings.
Go to chrome://settings/cookies → See all site data
and permissions → Find the Extension → Delete.
────────────────────────────────────────────
8. REMOTE CODE
────────────────────────────────────────────
DrawOverlay does not use remote code of any kind.
All JavaScript code powering the Extension is bundled and included
locally within the Extension package at install time. No external
scripts are fetched from any URL. The eval() function is not used.
No WebAssembly modules are loaded from external sources.
────────────────────────────────────────────
9. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
────────────────────────────────────────────
DrawOverlay does not knowingly collect any information from children
under the age of 13, or under the age of 16 in the European Economic
Area (EEA). The Extension does not collect personal data from anyone,
regardless of age.
If you believe a child has used this Extension and you have concerns,
please contact us using the information in Section 11.
────────────────────────────────────────────
10. SECURITY
────────────────────────────────────────────
Because DrawOverlay does not collect or transmit any personal data,
there is no personal data at risk. All user preferences are stored
locally on your device using Chrome's secure built-in storage APIs.
The Extension follows Chrome's Manifest V3 security model, which
restricts remote code execution and enforces strict Content Security
Policies.
────────────────────────────────────────────
11. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
────────────────────────────────────────────
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes
in the Extension's functionality or legal requirements. When we do, we
will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of
DrawOverlay after any update constitutes your acceptance of the revised
policy.

for any disputes relating to this policy.
