Dr. Arpan Bhowmik was born on 1st February, 1986 at Dinhata, West Bengal. He completed his primary school education from Sarada Sishu Tirtha, Dinhata. Dr. Arpan Bhowmik completed his secondary and higher secondary education from Dinhata High School, Dinhata, Cooch Behar, West Bengal during 2001 and 2003 respectively. Thereafter, he received his B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons.) degree in 2007 from Uttar Banga Krishi Viswa Vidyalaya (UBKV), Pundibari, Cooch Behar, West Bengal. Dr. Bhowmik completed his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Agricultural Statistics from ICAR-IARI, New Delhi during 2009 and 2013 respectively. He received National Merit Scholarships Certificate under national scholarship scheme in recognition of the high positions secured in the list of meritorious candidates qualifying for awards in both secondary and higher secondary examination held in 2001 and 2003 respectively from Education Directorate, Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal. He was also a recipient of University Merit Scholarship during his B.Sc days. Dr. Arpan Bhowmik Joined Agricultural Research Service (ARS) on 2nd July, 2012. He underwent his foundation course as a part of 96 FOCARS at ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), Hyderabad which includes 21 days Field experience training (FET) at Madurai, Tamil Nadu under the supervision of Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai. After completion of NAARM training, he joined as Scientist at ICAR-Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute (IASRI), New Delhi on 10th October, 2012. In his initial service life, he attended three months professional attachment training under Prof. Aloke Dey at Indian Statistical Institute-Delhi Centre during 1st January-31st March, 2013. He served at ICAR-IASRI, New Delhi for almost 10 years and thereafter he got transferred to ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Gogamukh, Assam and joined ICAR-IARI, Gogamukh, Assam on 11th April, 2022. Dr. Arpan Bhowmik, presently working as a Senior Scientist at ICAR-IARI, Gogamukh, Assam.
Dr. Arpan Bhowmik is actively involved in research, teaching, training, guidance and research advisory services in Agricultural Statistics and Informatics. Dr. Arpan Bhowmik has made outstanding contributions in diverse areas of Agricultural Statistics/Design of Experiments/Genomics/Informatics which paved the way for development of innovative statistical methodologies and ICT based tools useful for agricultural research. He has made noticeable contributions in developing innovative statistical methodologies useful for agricultural research. His contributions in the area of Digital India through the development of a number of ICT based online applications are just remarkable. He has more than 140 quality research papers published extensively in national/ international journals of repute along with 1 book, 8 book chapters, a number of reference manuals and other publications against his name. His intensive involvement in teaching, student guidance and organization of training can't be put aside. His dedication and hard work has already been paid off in the form of awards and recognition which include prestigious IARI merit medal, International Travel Support grant from Science and Engineering Research Board, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, Dr. G.R. Seth Memorial Young Scientist Award-2015 and a number of other awards and recognitions from different professional societies and academic bodies. He was also a part of project team KRISHI which received Gold icon in Digital India award given by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. He has significantly contributed in the scientific and technological advancements. He is a sincere, hardworking and dedicated researcher.
Dr. Arpan Bhowmik has served as invited speaker, chairman in different conferences and resource persons in different training programmes in different institute across the country. He has also received two Copyrights and five General Public Licenses (for R packages). He has successfully guided 3 M.Sc. students and presently guiding 1 Ph.D. student as Major Guide. He has served as Member of advisory committees of more than 100 students across different disciplines of Post Graduate School, IARI. He is continuously providing a number of advisory services to researchers under National Agricultural Research and Education Systems (NARES). He is also involved in different institute building activities in different capacities. Besides, he is also involved in all the infrastructural development related works of IARI Assam in different capacities. Dr. Arpan Bhowmik also carries out different societal activities in personal ground.
