Dr. Amit Kumar Verma is presently working as an Assistant Professor in Tabla subject at Dept. of Hindustani Classical Music, Sangeet Bhawan, Visva Bharati: A Central University & Institute of National Importance, Shantiniketan, West Bengal. Born in brought in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Dr. Verma is dedicated in the field of Indian Classical Music more than 12 years.
He is a performing artist as well as academician of high caliber. He received his training of Tabla playing in guru-shishya parampara from Prof. Sudheer Kumar Verma, the foremost disciple of Ustad Ahmadjaan Thirkwa. He also took intensive training under the guidance of Pt. Shital Prasad Mishra of Banaras Gharana and Ustad Sabir Khan of Farrukhabad Gharana. His academic career is profound as he has completed his Ph.D (2010) from Bhatkhande Music Institute University, Lucknow in the discipline of Tabla after Sangeet Nipun (2003), M.Mus. (2005) and qualifying UGC NET (2005).
His area of specialization is both in Theoretical & Practical aspect of Art of Tabla Playing and Research Methodology in Indian Music. He has attended and presented his research papers more than one dozen academic National and International Seminars.
