This is a daily blog of our adventures throughout Amsterdam, Brussels, and Paris!
Our adventure has officially begun—and what a kickoff it was! We’re traveling as one epic group of 96 (yes, 96!) students, families, and chaperones. Thanks to some serious EF Tours magic, we all managed to get on the same plane—no easy feat, but they pulled it off!
We met bright and early at the airport, buzzing with excitement as we checked in, got into our chaperone groups, and prepared for takeoff. Our journey to Amsterdam included a long layover in Canada, but we made the most of it with a fun scavenger hunt around Toronto Pearson Airport. It was the perfect way to stretch our legs, stay energized, and kick off our trip with a little friendly competition.
Adventure awaits—and we’re just getting started!
Today, we stepped into history with a visit to the Anne Frank House. Walking through the hidden annex where Anne and her family lived was a powerful, moving experience—one that brought her story to life in a way no book ever could.
Afterward, we lightened the mood with a scenic boat ride through Amsterdam’s iconic canals, gliding past charming bridges and colorful houseboats. With a bit of free time before heading back to the hotel, we got to explore the city’s streets, grab a bite, and soak in the vibrant atmosphere. A day full of reflection, discovery, and unforgettable moments!
Today felt like stepping into a postcard as we traveled back in time at Zaanse Schans, a charming windmill village straight out of a fairytale. With wooden clogs on display, grazing sheep, and iconic windmills turning in the breeze, it was impossible not to be enchanted.
We dove into the fascinating history of the Dutch milling industry, even climbing to the top of a working windmill for a breathtaking view of the countryside. Then came the cheese—so much cheese! We learned how it’s made, from curd to rind, and sampled more varieties than we could count (yes, we each found our favorite).
Our journey continued to the picturesque fishing village of Volendam, where colorful boats bobbed in the harbor and traditional Dutch houses lined the waterfront. There, we bravely tried pickled herring—a local delicacy that had some of us surprised, others delighted, and all of us laughing.
With wind in our hair and cheese in our bellies, it was a beautiful, authentic Dutch day we won’t soon forget.
We kicked off our journey to Brussels with a birthday celebration for Choe! The whole bus joined in to sing “Happy Birthday” — but with a twist... we learned how to sing it in Dutch! 🇳🇱🎶 It was a fun, festive moment that made the ride extra special. Gelukkige verjaardag, Choe! 🥳🚌
Our day in Brussels was packed with sweet treats, stunning sights, and lots of laughs!
We started our Belgian adventure with a bus ride into the city, making a quick stop to see the iconic Atomium—a futuristic symbol of Brussels that’s as cool to photograph as it is to admire up close.
Then it was time to roll up our sleeves and get a little messy in a chocolate-making workshop! We each crafted our own delicious morsels (some prettier than others!), and had a blast being creative... and, of course, taste-testing along the way.
In the afternoon, we explored the Brussels city center, shopping, sightseeing, and taking on a photo scavenger hunt that turned the cobblestone streets into our playground.
Dinner brought a perfect mix of savory and sweet: crispy chicken and fluffy Belgian waffles—a combo we didn’t know we needed until we tried it.
To wrap up the evening, we took a lovely walk to admire the St. Michael & St. Gudula Cathedral, its stunning gothic towers glowing in the evening light. A beautiful ending to a day full of discovery, chocolate, and charm!
Our Parisian adventure began with a visit to the charming neighborhood of Montmartre—a hilltop haven of art, history, and cobblestone streets. As we climbed our way up to the iconic Sacré-Cœur Basilica, the city slowly unfolded beneath us in a breathtaking view.
We wandered through the lively artist square, where painters and sketch artists brought the streets to life. With music playing and the scent of crepes in the air, it truly felt like the Paris of our dreams. From street art to souvenirs, Montmartre gave us the perfect first taste of the magic this city has to offer.
Day one: magnifique! 💫🗼🎨
Our second day in Paris was packed with iconic sights, royal history, and a whole lot of fun! We kicked off the morning with a visit to the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte, a grand and awe-inspiring site nestled within the city’s rich history.
Next, we headed to the majestic Arc de Triomphe, where we took in the impressive architecture and honored the memory of those it was built to celebrate. From there, it was off to the Eiffel Tower, where we soaked in the stunning views and had a little photo fun—recreating Ms. Dang’s proposal photo right in front of the tower! The dramatic poses and laughter made it one of the most memorable moments of the trip so far.
In the afternoon, most of us traveled to the breathtaking Palace of Versailles. We wandered through ornate royal rooms and got lost (in the best way) in the vast gardens. Some of us even started an impromptu game of tag among the hedges, because why not turn a palace into a playground?
To wrap up this amazing day, we visited the only skyscraper in Paris—Tour Montparnasse. From the observation deck, we took in a stunning panoramic view of the entire city, watching the Eiffel Tower sparkle as evening fell.
From legendary landmarks to lighthearted fun, today was a true Parisian adventure—one we won’t soon forget! 🏰🗼📸
Our last day in Paris was a celebration of art, beauty, and creativity!
We started the morning with a peaceful and inspiring watercolor painting lesson, where we let our imaginations flow and captured little pieces of Paris on paper. With soft colors and scenic views, it was the perfect way to reflect on our adventures and make something truly our own.
Next, we visited the elegant Fragonard Perfume Factory, where we learned the secrets behind the world of French fragrance. Surrounded by luxurious scents and beautiful bottles, we explored how perfumes are made and even tested our own sense of smell. Let’s just say—we left smelling amazing!
To end our time in the City of Light, we headed to the legendary Louvre Museum. From the mysterious smile of the Mona Lisa to awe-inspiring ancient sculptures and world-famous masterpieces, it was the perfect grand finale to our Paris journey.
Paris, you’ve been a dream! 🇫🇷💫🖌️
And just like that, our unforgettable adventure came to an end.
On our final day, we packed up our memories (and souvenirs!) and began the long journey back home. With such a large group, we were split onto two different planes—and while one group made it back smoothly, the other experienced a significant delay that tested everyone’s patience and energy.
But even in the face of exhaustion and unexpected setbacks, our students showed incredible resilience. They kept their spirits high, supported one another, and reminded us what it means to travel not just as tourists—but as a team.
And just when we thought the day couldn’t be more emotional, we were treated to the sweetest moment: Mrs. Emery’s husband was waiting at the airport with a bouquet of roses, ready to celebrate their anniversary. It was a beautiful reminder that love and support travel just as far as we do.
Though we returned tired, we came back full of memories, laughter, and stories that will last a lifetime. DragonsFly 2023—you were truly something special. 💙🛫🌍
