Dr. Rahul Saini is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics (Applied Sciences) at Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (HNBGU), a Central University located in Srinagar, Uttarakhand, India. He earned his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee and has since established himself as a dedicated educator and researcher in applied mathematics.
Dr. Saini's research focuses on computational solid mechanics, particularly the vibration, buckling, and bending analysis of beams, plates, nanobeams, and nanoplates composed of functionally graded materials (FGMs), which are often combinations of ceramics and metals. He has developed numerical algorithms to solve complex differential equations and has introduced modified boundary conditions to address paradoxes in nanoplates with free boundaries, especially under thermal environments. His expertise extends to areas such as artificial neural networks, parallel computing, the finite element method, and Linux OS-based computing.
In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Saini has received several prestigious awards and fellowships. He was selected as a National Post-Doctoral Fellow by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Government of India, at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore. Additionally, he was awarded the UGC-Dr. D. S. Kothari Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Department of Aerospace Engineering, IISc Bangalore. He has also held Institute Post-Doctoral Fellow positions at the Departments of Civil Engineering and Applied Mechanics at New York University, IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi, respectively. Dr. Saini received the "Young Scientist Award" for the best oral presentation in the discipline of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science at the 14th Uttarakhand State Science and Technology Congress (USSTC 2019-20). Furthermore, he was awarded Rs. 100,000 by DORA, IIT Roorkee, to attend an international conference at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia.
