Driving on the beaches of the Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach areas is a Volusia County tradition dating back to the early days of the automobile. Sea turtle nesting in these areas is moderate. Public driving and parking is allowed in the Transitional zone 30 feet seaward of the dunes or seawall.

The Urban zones are those areas where off-beach development includes hotels, high-rise condominiums and seawalls. The concentration of people is the most intense most of the year. Sea turtle nesting in these areas is minimal. Public driving and parking is allowed in the Urban beach areas 15 feet seaward of the dunes or seawall.

Volusia County has taken several steps to protect these gentle creatures. Beach driving and parking is regulated. Vehicles are not allowed west (landward) of the dune conservation zone where sea turtle nests are most common. Georgetown University offers a limited amount of parking for visitors and employees. The university strongly discourages visitors and employees from parking on the street and encourages alternate forms of travel.

Yates members are allowed to park for free in Southwest Garage before 9 a.m. and after 4 p.m. Monday through Friday with a valid Yates parking pass. Parking between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. is permitted for a fee of $5/hour with a maximum of two hours per visit. Student and Faculty/Staff who are members must comply with University parking policies; Yates cannot distribute parking passes to these members.

This includes battery jump-starts, flat tire assistance, key retrieval from locked cars and related assistance. There is no charge for these services; however, you must sign a service request form that releases the university from liability.

The fee for the parking decal is a one-time, non-refundable fee good for the semester. The fee is the same whether you request a decal at the start of the semester or at any other time during a semester and it will not be pro-rated. Once a new parking decal is obtained, students are only required to replace the parking decal if they have a change in residents status or vehicle. The fee will be renewed each semester as long as the student is registered for classes that semester.

All students must have a parking decal or temporary pass at all times on their vehicles. Students that do not purchase a decal or temporary pass cannot park on campus at any time, including the weekends.

The yellow commuter parking decal authorizes students to park in regular spaces in university lots designated for commuters. Vehicles with yellow stickers are not allowed to park in spaces reserved for visitors, faculty, staff, resident students, or spaces specifically marked for special purposes.
