I am Abubakar Hassan, a Lecturer in Economics at the School of Business, University of Dundee. I have a PhD in Energy Economics from the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law & Policy (CEPMLP) at the University of Dundee.

My research interests include climate change, energy transition, energy price volatility, competition, and market regulation. My areas of expertise span across energy/financial economics and time series econometrics.

Some of my publications in peer-reviewed journals includes Environmental Science and Pollution Research, International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology, and Journal of Economic and Management Perspectives. 

I have over a decade of teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate level at the University of Dundee, Federal University Dutse in Nigeria, and Eastern Mediterranean University in Cyprus. The courses I have taught include advanced microeconomics, macroeconomics and applied policy, mathematics for economists, operations research, competition and market regulation, big data analytics for business transformation, professional development for economists, among others.

I hold a PhD in Energy Economics as well as a MSc in Economics with Distinction. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in the UK. I have received various honors and awards, including winning the 2019 Balloon Debate at the University of Dundee.

I possess advanced competence in statistical/econometric software packages including STATA, EVIEWs, SPSS. I also have experience with programming and simulation software such as R Studio and OXmetrics.
