Jump on our Wild Ride bus with our entertaining tour guides who will take you through the drive-thru portion of the park and help you get to know each of the animals that you encounter along this 3-mile safari. Midway through your drive, you will jump off the bus for a unique backstage experience and viewing of our wolf training sessions.

The park also features a variety of captive animals such as alligators, black bears, red wolf, Key deer, flamingos, whooping cranes and the oldest hippopotamus in captivity. The native wildlife that reside in the park serve as ambassadors for their species, providing visitors face-to-face connections with the animals and their habitats. Each with a unique life story, all of the animal inhabitants are here for the same reason - they are unable to survive in the wild on their own.

You can interact with our animals safely from your vehicle while exploring our drive-thru safari, on foot walking through our village walk-thru, or up close during a special, behind-the-scenes encounter with sloths, rhinos, or penguins.

Feed and learn more about baby animals at our petting zoo. Kids will love exploring our covered playground. Bird lovers will enjoy our Hawk Swamp, where owls often roost in the cypress tree-covered boardwalk.

Continue your adventure at our Gator Park before or after your airboat ride. You can hold a baby alligator or experience any of our animal encounters. Admission is included with each airboat tour. Make sure you visit our gift shop to pick up your souvenirs.

This place is wonderful. It's clean, the animals look healthy, and the safari ride is very fun (especially in the spring with all the baby animals!). There's a lot of variety and it's not too big so you're not overwhelmed. Very cool place.

I would recommend this to anyone who has children! A wide variety of animals that are actually up close and you even get to go on a 'safari' ride that is included in the price. We are planning to go back.

Lion Country Safari is situated on nearly 600 acres of natural area and home to hundreds of animals. Explore one of Florida's wildest attractions and one of the top things to do in Palm Beach County.

First stop, the Visitor Center. Start or end your adventure here with a bite to eat, some merchandise to remember your trip or ask about our membership program. Visitors can also discover reptiles and amphibians or walk right outside to see our small mammals and raptors. Public restrooms are located here, as well as in the parking lot.

The farm was started in 1994 in an open area underneath the jail facility. The Stock Island Detention Center was built to withstand a Category Five Hurricane, and is built on stilts, about 11 feet above the ground. Underneath the building is employee parking, and a secure fenced area used for the evacuation of inmates in the case of a fire. It was in this evacuation area, initially a graveled area not used for anything else, that the farm was started.

The farm began as a haven for homeless animals. The first inhabitants were Muscovy ducks and a group of chickens which were plaguing a nearby golf course and were being killed on a regular basis by vehicles traveling on the road leading to the jail. A short time after the chickens and ducks were brought to the area, the SPCA in Miami called and asked if the facility would have space for a blind horse they had found abandoned in their area. Using inmate labor, a pen was created for the horse, who was christened Angel, and the animal farm was born. Since, it has blossomed into a beautiful park, complete with an large aviary, reptile exhibit, rabbit warren, farm animals and other domestic and exotic animal species.

The Sheriff's Office Animal Farm features all sorts of animals, both the traditional farm animals like miniature horses, chickens, pigs, goats and rabbits as well as exotic animals kinkajou, lemurs, capybara, coatimundi, alpaca, skunks, foxes, armadillos, an albino Burmese python, peacocks and tropical birds. Many of the animals have come from abusive or neglectful homes, or have been donated by people who simply cannot care for them any longer. Farmer Selander oversees a crew of inmates from the detention center who care for the animals and who also benefit from the experience. They receive formal training in some aspects of animal husbandry which they may be able to use once they are released from the facility. At the very least, they learn to work closely with many creatures in need of the compassion and caring of a human being - an experience which cannot help but be a positive factor in their lives.

The farm and it's operations are overseen by a paid employee - currently Farmer Jeanne Selander - who manages the animal park. Selander hails from Charleston, South Carolina. She moved to the Keys in 1998 to take the job of Assistant Curator at the Key West Aquarium. She has a B.A. in Biology from the College of Charleston. She says she came here for the job - and the weather.

Nothing completes one of our special events like a furry, feathered, or scaled guest of honor. Add an animal encounter to your reception, and experience some of our rare and dynamic species that will inspire and amaze even the most educated animal enthusiast. Enjoy meeting our animal care staff and discover more about wildlife, conservation, and San Diego Zoo Global's vision of ending extinction. While we work hard to provide an exceptional guest experience, occasionally habitats, tours, restaurants, transportation, entertainment, or services change or close without notice and without liability due to refurbishing, capacity, weather or special events. A daily listing of changes or closures can be found at the main entrance of both parks. Please check upon arrival. 17dc91bb1f
