This study evaluated the effects of individually composed songs on the independent behaviors of two young children with autism during the morning greeting/entry routine into their inclusive classrooms. A music therapist composed a song for each child related to the steps of the morning greeting routine and taught the children's teachers to sing the songs during the routine. The effects were evaluated using a single subject withdrawal design. The results indicate that the songs, with modifications for one child, assisted the children in entering the classroom, greeting the teacher and/or peers and engaging in play. For one child, the number of peers who greeted him was also measured, and increased when the song was used.

Songs for Judy captures Neil Young at his mercurial peak, writing songs too fast to release and scrapping albums too fast to remember. In November 1976, on a tour backed by the reunited Crazy Horse, he opened with solo acoustic sets at his buzzed and intimate best. Sanctioned photographer and taper Joel Bernstein and teenage rock journalist Cameron Crowe sorted through recordings of that run, compiling a 20-plus-track mix that, when leaked and bootlegged, eventually came to be known as The Bernstein Tapes. Long circulated among fans, it is perhaps the definitive document of Young in his archetypal solo acoustic guise.

Cowgirl pointed out that a moon-thread could be fun--Neil *is* kinda

occupied with moons. I let my PC do a search in its NY song files, and found

26 different moon songs. Amazing.

Not only intriguing that Neil mentions the moon so much, what's even more

intriguing is the way there might be links within Neil's use of this word.

Someone asked for an explanation of the moon-symbolism within Neil's songs.

I've sure been wondering about that myself. Though to me, it seems that

when NY mentions the moon it often either emphasizes the darker or

introspective sides of the personality -- or it seems to pertain to aspects

of femininity -- or both. ;-)

But that's not exactly a new thought, in myths and folklore our Silver Luna

has probably had very profound meanings within this range ever since

prehistoric times. :-)

For those who perhaps want to see a list of NY moon-songs:

After The Goldrush: I was lyin' in a burned out basement With the full moon

 in my eyes.

Amber Jean: Every morning got sun to shine Every day got plenty of time

Every night there's a moon so fine There for you, my Amber Jean.

Berlin: Lights are shining in the German sky Cosmic walls between the

moon and I Don't know where I started from

Big Green Country: Across the plain flew the lone grey rider Leather bag

pounding on his back Above the clouds the moon was climbing higher ...

Cinnamon Girl: A dreamer of pictures, I run in the night, You see us

 together, chasing the moonlight..

Coastline: Oooweee, baby, what a night That old moon sure is shinin' bright

We'll be dancin' 'til the mornin' comes

Come On Baby Let's Go Down Town: Sure enough, they'll be sellin' stuff

When the moon begins to rise. Pretty bad when you're dealin' with the man,

And the light shines in your eyes. [Chorus] Snaky eyes, French fries,

and I got lots of gas. Full moon and a jumpin' tune, now you don't have to

Don't Let It Bring You Down: Old man lying by the side of the road With the

lorries rolling by, Blue moon sinking from the weight of the load...

Give Me Strength: I'm riding down swept road in my old car The moon is

 almost full except for stars.

Harvest Moon: But there's a full moon risin' Let's go dancing in the light

We know where the music's playin' Let's go out and feel the night..

Hawaiian Sunrise: Pretty Maui Mama Lying over the water With my moon in

your eyes From my hotel window in the clouds I love you right out loud..

Helpless: Blue, blue windows behind the stars, Yellow moon on the rise,

Big birds flying across the sky, Throwing shadows on our eyes.

I'm The Ocean: On the long plain See the rider in the night See the

chieftain See the braves in cool moonlight Who will love them...

Let It Shine: There's a moon roof over my head, my Lord And my Lincoln is

still the best thing built by Ford Let it roll, let it roll although...

Like a hurricane: Far across the moonbeam I know that's who you are,

I saw your brown eyes Turning once to fire.

Opera Star: Well you grew up on a corner And you never missed a moonlit

 night.

Over And Over: At night when the sky is clear and the moon is shining down

My heart goes running back to you

Sail Away: As long as we can sail away There'll be wind in the canyon

Moon on the rise As long as we can sail away

Southern Pacific: Roll on Southern Pacific On your silver rails Through

 the moonlight

Sweet Joni: Sweet Joni from Saskatoon There's a ring for your finger

It shines like the sun But it feels like the moon.

The Old Country Waltz: Out the window the moon shines On the roofs of the

cars While I knock down tequila and salt, oh.

The Old Homestead: Up and down the old homestead The naked rider gallops

through his head And although the moon isn't full He still feels the pull

(...) And the sky was darkened by a prehistoric bird Who flew between the

unfulfilled moon And the naked rider...

This Old House: Later, we came back in the moonlight And made love right

 where the kitchen is

Thrasher: They were hiding behind hay bales, they were planting in the full

moon They had given all they had for something new

Time Fades Away: All night sentries watch the moonglow All are waiting till

 the time is right

Train Of Love: Sail along, sail along silver moon Don't be blue Throw

 shadows in my room...

In 1970 Neil Young bought a giant plot of land in Northern California. He dubbed the place Broken Arrow Ranch and he's lived there to this day. When he moved in, the land was overseen by a man named Louis Avila. "Louis took me for a ride in this blue Jeep," Young said in 2005. "He gets me up there on the top side of the place, and there's this lake up there that fed all the pastures, and he says, 'Well, tell me, how does a young man like yourself have enough money to buy a place like this?' And I said, 'Well, just lucky, Louie, just real lucky.' And he said, 'Well, that's the darndest thing I ever heard.'" Young wrote the song about him. Sidenote: Young is older now than Avila was when they first met.

The fact that young can seamlessly integrate such a vibrant and unusual story into his music and still wrap it up in one of the most vulnerable and touching melodies is proof of his unstoppable talent.

In May 1970, National Guardsmen opened fire on a group of students protesting against the American incursion into Cambodia at Kent State University in Ohio. They fired 67 rounds in 13 seconds. The students, needless to say, were unarmed. The shootings killed four, paralysed another and left eight more seriously injured. The US public, already polarised over Vietnam, became more divided still between those who were outraged that the state would turn its guns on its own citizens and those who thought the little punks had it coming. John Filo, a journalism student, took a photograph of a young woman called Mary Ann Vecchio (then 14 years old and visiting the campus) kneeling over the body of a dead student called Jeffrey Miller and screaming in horror. That Pulitzer-winning picture was only the most potent symbol of that divide. It was by no means the only one.

This is not the first time that the Canadian-born Young has complained about Trump's use of his songs for political ends. In 2016, Young was among a long list of artists, ranging from The Rolling Stones to Adele, who objected to the candidate playing their music on the campaign trail. (Young announced in January that he had become a U.S. citizen; he has also been a longtime supporter of Sen. Bernie Sanders.)

Back then, however, Young told Reuters that he would have liked for Trump to have asked for his blessing. During that first campaign, Trump's organization had made licensing agreements with the two main performance-rights organizations, ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) and BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.), which have traditionally covered the use of pop songs at political live events. (Songwriters and labels can prohibit the use of their music in political commercials.)

They do punk songs? "Oh, yeah, yeah," Cilman said. "I mean, I think the thing that's cool about them singing music they don't know is that they don't sing it the way you'd expect it to be sung. They very naturally turn it into their own thing."

Music is a powerful tool that helps young children learn new thinking skills. Using fingerplays, songs and rhymes helps children learn language by increasing vocabulary, learning the sounds of words and hearing the rhythm of language. Children can also gain large and small motor skills by performing movements required in fingerplays. Memory and social skills are also learned by participating in fingerplays, songs and rhymes.

There are many familiar fingerplays, songs and rhymes that early childhood educators remember from their own childhood and many that are new and unknown! A new searchable online database through the eXtension Alliance for Better Child Care makes including fingerplays, songs and rhymes easy for early childhood educators, parents and grandparents.

The Fingerplays and Songs for Child Care database provides activity sheets that are ready-to-do and are designed to help young children of different ages learn, develop and flourish. The activities can be used in all types of early childhood settings such as classrooms or family child care homes, and can fit into existing lesson plans or be used as stand-alone activities. Early childhood providers can search the database in three ways: ff782bc1db
