The Yahoo Messenger app version 2.2.6 worked fine. When I upgraded to 2.2.7, the dialing feature seems to have been removed. I'd have to guess it looks intentional, because they changed the button from a phone icon to a notepad icon. The old button brough up the dial pad. The new one brings up a log of calls.
