If you get the Username or password invalid warning and the Sign-in attempt prevented email when you try to connect your Yahoo Mail with Thunderbird, Yahoo has blocked Thunderbird from connecting because it's a "less secure" non-Yahoo app. In Thunderbird below 68.5 you could enable an option to allow apps that use less secure sign-in in your Yahoo Account. See this Yahoo support page for instructions.

Update: please read section 'Important Changes to Authentication Method Notice' below.

Already made sure that Thunderbird is configured to download / view all emails in IMAP and there is no pruning going on (i.e. no date range limitations in any settings I can find). Also, the Inbox email file size is only 635MB - well below the 4GB limit. The amount of emails in the folder is an exact 10,000 emails.

This wikiHow teaches you how to use Thunderbird to process and receive your Yahoo email. Yahoo blocks non-Yahoo apps from accessing your email by default, so you'll first have to disable this setting on Yahoo's website. After doing so, you can set up Thunderbird and Yahoo on both Windows and Mac computers.

So I accidentally moved the default Bulk folder into the trash, and I can't get it out again.

I did try moving the "Bulk.msf" out of "Trash.sbd" under the corresponding profile, but once I open Thunderbird it resets. I'm guessing that it's recovering the profile settings from the server? Is there anything I can do?

This is the imap location shown under properties:

imap://______@imap.mail.yahoo.com/Trash/Bulk

but I'm pretty sure it should look like below:

imap://______@imap.mail.yahoo.com/Bulk

Incoming Server: imap.mail.yahoo.comOutgoing Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.comIncoming Port: 993 with SSLOutgoing Port: 465 with SSL or port 587 with SSL/TLS-It is necessary to enable SSL or TLS for Outgoing SMTP port.Username: full email address (for example, [email protected])Password: the password you use to sign in to your Yahoo! Account

afaik there is a trick to get the free yahoo mail working with pop3 mail clients (google is your friend you need to change your region in yahoo prefferences)

I have 2 yahoo! accounts working in T-bird with these settings

In October 1997, Yahoo! Mail made its debut, emerging as an early pioneer in the realm of reliable and well-received email services. Thanks to its substantial storage capabilities, robust virus protection, and useful calendar and note functions, Yahoo! swiftly ascended to a dominant position, amassing a user base exceeding 225 million. However, as other email services advanced technologically, Yahoo! Mail gradually lost some of its allure. Consequently, users have begun exploring alternatives for integrating it with different email clients. This article is designed to assist you in configuring Yahoo! Mail with Thunderbird.

To streamline your email management, integrate your Yahoo Mail with Thunderbird. This convenient setup not only simplifies your work life but also centralizes all your emails within one platform. Moreover, Thunderbird boasts a range of additional functionalities, such as a calendar, note-taking, task management, contact organization, event scheduling, and appointment tracking. Should you ever need to migrate your Thunderbird data back to Yahoo Mail, you can rely on the MBOX to Outlook PST software for seamless restoration. It can help you in exporting emails from Thunderbird to PST, in case you switch to a different email client, MS Outlook.

I cannot seem to get thunderbird to import/sync my data from gmail, yahoo, or any other mail server. The accounts are set up properly via the gui, are authorized by the servers, and show on the left hand sidebar, but will not import my messages. I can send messages, though.

Me too. Not so long, a month or two ago. After Gmail improvements to be incompatible with Thunderbird and other open-standards FLOSS. Thunderbird made series of minor updates recently, with no luck so far.

According to rules of the digital cage, independent floss apps are possibly not safe enough, and we should take email from centralized jails only via its WebUI or special closed-code mobile apps in the near future.

I have been a user of the Yahoo Mail application for a long time. Now, I have some concerns regarding the privacy of my account. Unfortunately, I have some crucial data in my Yahoo emails. Is there any way to migrate my Yahoo mail data into my Google account?

if you have Thunderbird or a desktop mail app that works on both services, especially via email, and both services are set up as IMAP connections, you can move some or all emails between them like you move emails to folders.

This problem has only occured in the last week or two and applies to Yahoo, GMail and outlook. Thunderbird is still working for primary EMail account, so I don't know if its a thunderbird issue or whether all three companies updated their security policies.

I know that Yahoo in the name of "updated security" is blocking "less secure" clients, which I assume is an excuse for forcing people to use their ad-infected crap. Yahoo also seems to have disabled mail fowarding

which would have been a good workaround for backing up Yahoo mail.

Gmail and Thunderbird, no issues -- including signing and encryption via GPG. Is Yahoo still around? All know is they won't deliver our forum email and won't respond to inquiries as to why; I thought they had ceased to exist.

I believe Yahoo is still in the process of being sold to Verizon which took a detour after Yahoo's security problems became public. Yahoo had really been a great resource int the 1990's but sadly has changed for the worse. What can you say about a company that blocks mail fowarding: $@$*$* !

The mistakes made at Yahoo the past few years have been mind boggling, and if Verizon goes ahead with the purchase it will be a marriage made in hell. The joke is that all I'm trying to do is back up many years of email and say good riddance to a one great web site. I suspect that Yahoo is blocking all third party clients and not just less secure clients.

Usually I'm way too tenacious to give up, but I've wasted too much time on this already for something that doesn't have that much importance right now. When I finally kill my Yahoo account I won't be losing any important emails. Thunderbird is working fine for my primary email which is what I really care about.

This reduces the threat surface because the user themselves do not write down or remember the password, and the password can only be used by that app (i.e. having that password does not, IIRC, allow login to gmail, only access to the emails themselves (which you would have access to if you crack the app using it anyway).

A system which allows me to use different passwords for google, gmail, youtube ... would be great, but as it's been described to me so far (or at least as I understood it) i'd have to activate 2F *also* in order to have individual passwords for individual user agents, which would be just illusion or better security (or usability)
