wsjt-x_improved is available with three different GUI layouts: WSJT-X's standard GUI, an alternative layout (AL) optimized for small screen sizes, and a widescreen version. The latter two provide a larger Band Activity window.

There is also special version for Fox operators available. It has an additional "F" button that allows you to quickly switch between Fox and normal FT8 mode. The following documents provide some additional tips for Fox operations:

If anything is not working as expected, first check your hardware as well as your software settings. This includes:

Read the User Guide carefully. What is described there for the original WSJT-X is also valid for wsjt-x_improved.Also read the overview on the additional features of wsjt-x_improved.  Ensure you have a stable connection to your rig (USB cables, audio cables, possible RFI).   Check if the settings at File | Settings | Radio are correct (Rig, Serial Port, Baud Rate, PTT Method, and so on).   Don't forget to enable Split Operation. The preferred method is Fake it.   In some rare cases, the hamlib rig driver may not properly work with your rig. Try to select a similar rig model and see if it works better, or use OmniRig instead. OmniRig has its own rig drivers, however, it is only available on Windows.

Windows users can easily update the hamlib rig drivers themselves. The entire hamlib library is in a single libhamlib-4.dll file, which is located in the bin folder of your installation (usually c:\WSJT\wsjtx\bin\libhamlib-4.dll). It's worth a try to replace this file by the latest Hamlib Git daily snapshot (rename the old file so that you have a backup):

I need help to install wsjt x on my laptop. My first time using Ubuntu was yesterday.

Anyone that can point me to a tutorial would be great.

If it matters I have a Dell Latitude e 4300.

Thanks in advance.

you need to make sure the downloaded file is in the same directory that you are in. from your prompt, i believe you are in your home directory. most downloads get put in the Downloads directory which would mean your command should be sudo dpkg -i ~/Downloads/wsjtx_2.1.0-rc5_amd64.deb or something like that depending on where you put your downloads.

I have tried the Raspberry PI image for Ubuntu 20.10. It works well. But, I use my Raspberry PI 400 to control my WSPR mode radio equipment, which needs the wsjtx software. I tried to install the repository package for wjstx. The repository package used is wjstx-2.6.0-rc1. This is the release candidate for version 2.6.0 and stopped working after November 2022. The installation works, but, software does not. Is there way of getting the old package version 2.5.4, part of Ubuntu 22.04 installed? Do I need to change the referenced repository? Should I try building the wsjtx version 2.6.0 from source under Ubuntu 20.10? Thank you in advance for any help on this.

What's probably (arguably) easier is waiting 3 days until the release of Ubuntu 23.04, upgrading to that, and then getting wsjtx from the 23.04 repo, which is version 2.6.1 which likely won't have the same issue as the pre-release in 22.10.

Next, visit the WSJT-Xhomepage anddownload the latest release for Raspbian. For me, that waswsjtx_2.1.2_armhf.deb. The site says this is for Strech, but it also worksfor Buster, the latest Debian/Raspbian release at the time of writing. e24fc04721
