I already found some hundred tutorials how to create a new hotspot using netsh, but as I understand it this would create another, different hotspot.Instead I want to use the already configured one. Or does Windows 10 use the same and creates a new hotspot every time but in between only remembers the settings?

So it seems that MS is using a very different technique for the built-in hotspot than the netsh variant. Which brings me again to the question: how can I automate (by script) the enabling/disabling of this hotspot?

I think the only solution at the moment is to setup an autohotkey script to click the button on start up. Windows +A, Shift Tab, down arrow, etc... I need this for a headless PC to allow wifi remote desktop.

While 'patiently' waiting for my Quest 3, I decided to check out my Wi-Fi options. As you will see, or maybe already know, Ideally you need to connect your PC with ethernet cable to a 1gig router and use it's dedicated 5Ghz wifi as close by as possible. Wifi-only and wifi hotspots do not work well so do not believe everything you see on YouTube. Even the Virtual Desktop developer states that wifi hotspots (esp. ones using a pcie card) are not a good alternative.

The only alternative for reasonable results in your case may be to get yourself a dedicated Router and connect your PC to it and use it's wifi. However, without it being wired to your main router you will not have internet access. There are apparently some high end (and probably expensive) routers that will allow your main router to broadcast to your dedicated router but this requires a bit of know-how to setup.

A little update in case someone find this thread, my laptop has an intel ax200 that supports both bands, so I connect to the internet with 2.4GHz and make a hotspot with 5GHz to connect with the oculus. The experience it's quite enjoyable. I think I may be able to play even from a hotel room with this setup.

My computer has a wifi 6 card it allows me to do bridged connection to a device. but i just connect to a wifi 6 to a standard wifi 6 router "as if its wired" and i get decent results. 1200 mbps and about 30ish ms of lag.

If you were about to spend money anyway, buy a router. Skip all the network card stuff, all the hotspot, a simple router is all you need. mine cost me like 40$USD it is wifi6 nothing fancy, and i am VD user, it has been rock solid for the past 2 years, like rock solid!. I dont want to say the model i am using here but PM is welcomed.

So essentially, connect your pc to the router you bought via cable, and bridge the wifi your house sends out, try to set a new wifi off your new router and name it differently and only use 5G band (important). And thats it. for me i use powerline to connect to the home router wiredly. It is hassle free, always works, and now i even have my small LAN i can use among all my devices.

Citation needed. I keep seeing people sating this but cannot find any evidence of it so I would love to see where this has originally come from. I use a usb wifi adapter and it's totally fine at 1200mbps on VD.

I just go to device manager, select my wifi driver (Dell Wifi Driver 1704 something), right-clicked it and go to update driver, then go to Browse files on this computer, after that at the below its displaying view all driver files on this computer, I clicked on it and selected another driver named "Broadcom wifi driver 802.1 something instead of Dell wifi Driver I installed this and restart my laptop. Now I can create hotspot with any software.

Still, they do have a wireless driver available for Windows* 10, version 22.70.1.1, for testing purposes you can always try a clean installation of that driver following the instructions in the links below, even if you are using Windows* 11:

Just in case, you can always get in contact directly with the manufacturer of your Router in order to be able to configure it manually and set the 149, 153, 157, 161, 165 channels with a frequency of 5 GHz, or at least one of them and then try to use the 5GHz mobile hotspot.

I just received an update on this matter. Just to let you know, actually, in different countries/regions the band 5GHz is not supported yet, and when is implemented, OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) release BIOS updates/drivers to enable the support. You mentioned that maybe Russian restrictions are applied to your country, and yes, that is a possibility since 5GHz hotspot is still not supported in Russia.

Since the Operating System (OS) is involved too, the best thing to do at this point would be to make sure that the BIOS, OS, and other drivers are up to date and to check with the ISP (Internet Service Provider) directly about the support of the 5GHz hotspot in your country.

I want to be able to sync my 1Password vault between my Mac at home, iPhone and Windows PC at work. Firewall and security restrictions at work prevent me from using a cloud based solution (like Dropbox) so I was happy to hear about the possibility of syncing over secured wifi connection. I am unable to connect my personal iPhone to the wifi network at work, so I am enabling a wifi hotspot on my iPhone and connecting my Windows laptop to it. When I try to follow the steps in the link you provided, I get a message saying "Your system administrator does not allow you to create ad hoc (computer-to-computer) networks. Yes it should work, to be able to create a mobile hotspot your computer needs a WLAN adapter, and your computer needs to be connected to the Internet.

After that you have created a mobile hotspot, you can join with other devices such as laptops, tablets and mobile phones to your mobile hotspot.

This isn't a request for help, I'm just documenting how I made my new USB wifi adapter work with Mobile hotspot on Windows 10. I mostly use these devices to create a hotspot at work for my phones to connect to the cabled Ethernet connection, and a full fledged router isn't an option, so I need the mobile hotspot function to work properly. However, during both my previous install (TL-WN725N) and this one (T4U v3) I encountered several hurdles before I could make them work.
