The company does not provide direct access to the Tor anonymization network via VPN, although we should note that a VPN is not required to access the free Tor network. Editors' Choice winners Proton VPN and NordVPN offer access to Tor, multi-hop connections, and split tunneling.

Private Internet Access VPN has servers available in other countries with restrictive internet policies, such as Turkey and Vietnam. The company does not have servers in Russia but does have servers in Ukraine.

We tested Private Internet Access VPN's ability to hide IP addresses and secure DNS requests by visiting DNSLeakTest.com and performing an extended DNS leak test while connected to a VPN server in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In testing, that server did not leak our IP address and our DNS requests remained private.

So, after entering in the IP address individually, it doesn't appear as though they are being repeated. I hope you do know the inconvenience and annoyance this provides to customers using both software? Every VPN has multiple IP address and PIA is no exception. Because I want to feel safe I will validate the IP address I add to the exception list and remove the File and Folders. My question to you is.....do you plan on adding the IP addresses that have been provided to your by PIA as whitelisted ever? I understand both software s point of view but every VPN will have this same issue. There will be users that maliciously use software in an illegal or malicious manner not intended by the software developer. I am sure they do the best that any VPN service can do. The users who use VPN's know that some sites wont allow access to it while using a VPN. I originally had that issue when I started but even my bank allows the IP addresses from PIA.

Connecting to a Netflix VPN can get you access to all sorts of geoblocked sites and streaming services. Plus, they can help you get around those annoying 'not available in your region' error messages.

The client's excellent and feature-packed location picker lists countries and city-based locations, where available, and ping times indicate which is closest. You can sort the list by location name or ping time, and a search box and favorites system help you find and access the server you need in just a click or two.

Elsewhere, a kill switch protects your traffic if the VPN disconnects. I found that it worked perfectly with both WireGuard and OpenVPN connections, blocked my internet as soon as the connection dropped, and warned me with a desktop notification before quickly reconnecting.

I got Pi-Hole up and running on my Raspberry Pi 3. I can set the DNS to it and all is fine. However I also use the VPN of Private Internet Access on my Windows 7 machine and simply use their software app (which uses encryption) to connect to the VPN. If I enter my Raspberry Pi static IP for the DNS, it doesn't work. The browser never resolves the DNS. If I enter Google's, it works, but I'm not getting the advantage of the private DNS on the Raspberry.

Ever tried to look something up only to get a 'not available in your region' message? Private Internet Access can help with that. When connected to a server in the right location you can access all kinds of geo-blocked websites. That includes TV streaming websites.

I tried accessing the most popular streaming services using PIA, and it didn't disappoint. In fact, it did well enough to be included on the list of the top Netflix VPN services. I was able to watch Netflix libraries from the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and even Japan. Other services PIA unblocks are BBC iPlayer, Amazon Prime, and Disney Plus.

The PIA desktop client includes a kill switch that disables internet access if your VPN disconnects for any reason. In my testing, this performed admirably, always notifying me of an internet connection issue and reconnecting without once exposing my real IP address.

I'm not able to use a VPN tunnel connection with PIA servers. I've tried using both config files provided from PIA and from the private-internet-access-vpn AUR I can't connect to anything outside my network. I can't even ping the gateway server.

When I'm connected to PIA VPNs, no, the browser doesn't connect to anything. Being that I'm not able to ping the gateway, I don't think any packet is leaving my box, but I'm unsure how routing really works though.

However I'm not having certificates problems when accessing their website without being on their VPN. I think you should try to fix that first before troubleshooting your VPN issues.

I have set my PIA username/password at /etc/private-internet-access/login.conf when using the AUR config files.

For the config file downloaded from PIA, I pass --auth-user-pass to the openvpn client, so it looks something like:

The explanations of how to access PIA VPN elsewhere on this forum are great, especially here (including lots more useful information in the comments). However, they don't contain quite all the pieces to run a headless server that sets up a VPN at boot, so I'm including some extra hints. This is tested on Debian.

I have OMV5 on my server and I installed on the docker Nextcloud.

With DUCKDNS I can access on my Nextcloud everywhere, my question is If I can I install OpenVPN as say Sui_Generis in the second post and continue to use nextcloud with DuckDNS or I must use another way to install OpenVPN?

Thanks and sorry for my bad english

Not sure if this is normal behaviour, but I've installed PIA and logged in, but when the VPN is active, my wifi icon shows a "?" overlaid on the signal bars. I understand this is normal behavior, however I have issues accessing various websites, plus cannot run software updates or search for new application while in this state.

Private Internet Access (PIA) stands as a robust Virtual Private Network (VPN) service, designed to enhance online privacy, security, and anonymity for users across various platforms. It offers a suite of features aimed at safeguarding your internet activity from prying eyes, hackers, and trackers, including:

Similar to NordVPN, PIA offers a browser extension that you can add to your internet browser. Once clicked, the extension opens to a simple dashboard with a large connect icon. It also displays a list of the nearest servers, latencies, and location. Clicking on connect activates the VPN server and protects your browser traffic.

Additionally, the browser extension also comes with a split tunneling option that lets you select the sites that you want to use without the need for a VPN. The Bypass List is easy to create and the sites that are in it continue to use the regular connection. The sites protected by PIA block trackers from accessing your location, camera, and microphone, and also blocks trackers, cookies, and link auditors.

IP list - it would require me to create a http website to place file with IP's from PIA. I could create small free webserver to host it on and allow access only from my PC to it, it would be useful for other lists too... not a bad idea.

I am trying to make a minecraft server with PIA (private internet access). they have this function called "port forwarding". but when I try to use the generated port that PIA gives me, every port checker would say the port is closed. I have tried putting the local port to 25565 (minecraft default port) but then minecraft would say :

Of course, data breaches do happen. So even if your browsing data is private, your personal information could still be compromised, which can lead to identity theft. To prevent that from happening, Private Internet Access has put strict protocols in place to make sure only select employees could access stored personal data. Additionally, all the personal information is stored in the United States and is always maintained in encrypted form.

RSA SecurID, named after its founders, is responsible for making sure you are who you say you are and controlling who has access to your data. RSA can use different types of multi-factor authentication, from a push notification to biometrics, to make sure the right person is accessing the software.

Traditional servers run on hard drives, and because of how they are set up, they might retain crumbs of data even after your VPN session ends. In contrast, RAM-only servers run on random access memory (RAM) alone. The advantage of this setup is that everytime a server reboots, all the pieces of information it holds will disappear.

PIA MACE works to limit access to domains used by ads, trackers, and malware. In essence, this should lead to a more unobstructed browsing experience, although I did find numerous websites begging me to turn off my adblocker.

One of the biggest drawbacks we noted in this PIA review was with performance. This was somewhat surprising, however, since most VPNs that support WireGuard have excellent performance. With PIA, I ran numerous speed tests on a 500 Mbps internet connection (baseline speed) from my testing lab in the United States.

Its Linux desktop client occassionally crashes on input, but the VPN connection is unscathed. Its Android client has no built-in killswitch since version 3, an issue with my phone at the time. For that, I was told by customer support to stick to version 2. (Un)fortunately, that phone was stolen, so I ended up with a near-AOSP phone with access to Always-on VPN and all. Lastly, both clients can be unresponsive especially with intermittent Internet. e24fc04721
