I was hired as a team leader by a client to manage his team. I don't know how the account of an employer works so I am not sure about the permissions. I want to know if there is a way I can check my team's work diary. Can my client give me a permission doing that without giving admin permission?

My client told me he added me in a team and added some of our team members as well but when I go to the work diary of our team, I can't find anyone there. It says "You don't have active contracts in this team." but my team members are already using their time tracker.

I checked your account, and your client's account and can see that you client was unable to give you permission to view your team's work diaries. Please inform your client to go to

Settings > Members & Permissions > Click on your name > Click Edit > View Work Diaries > Click on All > Click Save. 


This should enable you to view your team's work diaries.

Thank you for the reply. As for your instructions he already made the permission settings. I have attached a screenshot that shows I am already part of the team and has the necessary permission (as i thought) unless we still need to do something after setting the permission. Right now I still can't see my team and 'You don't have active contracts in this team.' Do you have any idea why this is happening? Also, should I see my work diary as well? Because if yes, I should already see a log since I am using my time tracker already. Am I doing something wrong?

I have the same issue. My employer is asking me to audit the whole team's work diary and she already provided the necessary permission as you have specified on this thread. However, I am still unable to access it. My employer said that on her end, she just goes to Jobs > All Contracts > Work Diary to be able to view them. It seems that employer interface is different than the freelancer interface. Can you suggest a work around?

Another option is for the client to send an offer directly to the agency member from their profile, but where that offer goes will depend on the member's exclusivity to the agency. If they are non-exclusive with no default team, the contract will be created under the freelancer. If they are exclusive to the agency or have the agency set as their default team, the contract will be created under the agency.

I don't understand why you can't allow other agency members to input their time on a project too. That's how an agency works outside of upwork. Will this ever change? Is there a reason why Upwork wont accomodate for this common behavior?

Where the offer goes depends on a number of variables, but, in general, the offer goes to whichever individual or team submitted the proposal. If you submit the proposal on behalf of an agency member (you cannot submit proposals on behalf of the agency in general), then the corresponding offer would be attached to the agency. I find it confusing as an agency owner to not be able to assign or re-assign my own team to certain projects. We pay a lot of money for ease-of-use and this is unsettling. I really hope UpWork listens to their community and makes it easier for agency owners or business managers to assign at their discretion.

Why do I see so many profiles in which people refer to "my team" or "my company"? Or even if it's not directly mentioned, you can look at somebody's work history and see that they're doing too many projects for one person to handle. And I've also seen Upwork moderators say that it's okay to outsource work - so couldn't the OP say that she obtains the work and then passes it off to her partner? I'm not trying to be difficult, I'm genuinely confused by what the exact rule is.

Someone set a milestone to that team and I am rejected that offer but when I want to leave team UPWORK said ''Can not leave team. You have active contract or proposal with team''. I am new to upwork and I intend to work with a team. Right now only I have a freelancer account and I thought of winning contracts and doing them together with my other 2 colleagues with the face of only one person in the Upwork (me). Is this against Upwork ToS ? Can my account get suspended through that ?

It's important that you don't share your log in credentials with anybody and don't log into other users' accounts as it's a serious violation of Upwork ToS. If you would like to work as a team you will need to open an agency and list all team members in your agency.

I've checked and was not able to replicate the problem on our end. The team member permissions allow them to see the job postings as long as they are accessing them from the correct account. Can you please ensure that he is trying to access the postings from the correct account and if so, please suggest that he reach out to us directly so that we can assist him further. Thank you

The client has recently posted new jobs on Upwork and wants to add me to the client team for hiring. They have sent me an invite to the company email id they have set-up for me. I have been their sole freelancer till date and they are using Upwork for the first time.

1) You don't. Once the client adds you to their team, you gain (limited) access to their account and will operate from there. You will see the profile in a drop-down at login and can switch from your freelancer profile to your team's profile at any time.

I would like to clarify that if the invite to join the client's team is sent to a different email address, you can sign up for a new Client only account to join the client's team. You will need to ensure you do not register for a freelancer account on that account or initiate an offer or contract to your freelancer account. This is considered a serious violation of our TOS and may lead to account interruption. You can continue to use your Upwork freelancer account to apply for jobs on the platform and use your client's account to hire other Upwork freelancers.

I seem to be facing a similar problem. My client added me to her team for a project. So, I can't apply for the company's jobs anymore. The only options that come up are those that should only be visible to the client. 


Can I be a part of client's team as a fellow client for the company and still keep working for them as a freelancer as well? Or should I request they remove me as a client team member? 2351a5e196
