This is a common problem with the Flatpak Telegram- and other Flatpak packages; Forever Updating or Forever Installing.

In some cases, in spite of the spinner claiming an ongoing process, the application has fully installed or updated. But not in all cases.

You might check if the Telegram app lists itself as the latest version or not and if it launches and runs successfully.

It is the Flatpak one as that is the current release 3.5.2 the one in Zorin in 3.1.1 which is quite old so I need the flatpak one. I just did a test. I allowed Zorin to update to 16.1 and then removed and installed telegram and still the same problem.

I would like to add that the flatpak version of Telegram that I use had the same issue. For some reason that issue does not exist anymore. This problem existed in Pop! OS as well, until a few days ago when this stopped happening.

My telegram version is same i.e. 3.5.2

My telegram account has been in updating status for the past 2 days. I have tried resintalling, restarting the phone, trying it on my desktop app, trying it on various different networks but to no avail. I have another phone number and switching to that account within the app doesn't seem to have any issue. Therefore, it seems to be account specific. Any idea how to fix it, does anyone else have the same problem?

The automatic updating is typically enabled by default in the most recent versions of Android OS. Sometimes this feature is limited, for example, the application can only update itself when your phone is connected to a Wi-Fi network. This limitation is designed to reduce mobile traffic and avoid unnecessary use of MB.

Step 3: Scroll down and look for Telegram from the list of apps. Next, tap on the Update button. The update process starts and you can use the updated version of Telegram in a few minutes.

This looks like a telegram issue. Now have to find an old telegram version and flash. Telegram not being a part of the /e/OS is good in this case otherwise as a system app it would not have been possible to upgrade or downgrade and individual app.

Telegram will force adds on the official app, and all the other apps are in need to be updated to the new API, or something like this, the FOSS Android app got updated and I read this on the changelog, here it is:

In my attempt to build a bot using Telegram, I have tried several times, but I have still received a message that says it cannot import the name 'Dispatcher' from the extension telegram.ext.As far as I am concerned, this error should be solved as soon as possible and I would appreciate if you could help me with it.

You don't have the Telegram snap package from the Ubuntu Software application installed. If you want to install the latest stable version of Telegram, the name of the snap package to install is telegram-desktop and the commands to install it are:

Telegram is a popular messaging protocol with encryption and security as its key focus. telegram-sergiusens is the latest version of Telegram, the same version as the Telegram file that is available at the official Telegram website. The command to update telegram-desktop is:

In our last update on the XCSSET campaign, we updated some of its features targeting latest macOS 11 (Big Sur). Since then, the campaign added more features to its toolset, which we have continually monitored. We have also discovered the mechanism used to steal information from various apps, a behavior that has been present since we first discussed XCSSET.

On macOS, the Application sandbox directory ~/Library/Containers/com.xxx.xxx and ~/Library/Group Containers/com.xxx.xxx can be accessed (with READ/WRITE permissions) by common users. This differs from the practice on iOS. Not all executable files are sandboxed on macOS, which means a simple script can steal all the data stored in the sandbox directory. We recommend that application developers refrain from storing sensitive data in the sandbox directory, particularly those related to login information.

I updated it, I don't want to confirm the phone number. And the phone keeps showing new messages notifications from Telegram. If I enter the phone number, I have no idea if it installs a new instance or the old one. Now when I click the old icon, it still complains update is needed, but the install went through from apt.

Hello, same thing happened to me. I got the message Android/Clipper.AJ found for the installed Telegram application.

I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it from Google Playstore, it gives the same thing.

Hello Arch users,

I've recently updated telegram-desktop from the official Arch community repo and the audio output options seems to be limited to Jack only.

My audio setup is pipewire along with pipewire-pulse and pipewire-jack installed.

However, if I run the official telegram desktop application from desktop.telegram.org all the audio output options show properly.

There seem to be something in the custom Arch build that limits or doesn't see all audio devices.

There also seems to be something in the Arch version of Telegram that wreaks havoc with the Bluetooth audio stack. If I have Telegram Desktop running, Bluetooth audio turns off if two applications are using audio output at the same time. For example, if I have a YouTube video open and playing, and then I open a video in VLC, audio is completely lost until I close either VLC player or YouTube. Bluetooth audio is also lost if I have a YouTube video playing and I click on the volume applet in the sys-tray. I'll see if the same thing happens with the official version from desktop.telegram.org.

Telegram was founded in 2013 by Nikolai and Pavel Durov.[13][14] Its servers are distributed worldwide, while the headquarters are in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.[15][16] Telegram is the most popular instant messaging application in parts of Europe, Asia, and Africa.[17][18]

In 2021, the Telegram team announced a direct build of its Android app. Telegram for Android is available directly from the Telegram website.[160] It is automatically updated and will most likely get new versions faster than the apps in the Play Store and App Store.[161] A distinctive feature of this version is the ability to view channels/groups on a specific topic without censorship, which cannot be viewed from an app distributed from Google Play or the Apple Store due to their policies.[citation needed]

Telegram has public APIs with which developers can access the same functionality as Telegram's official apps to build their own messaging applications.[179] In February 2015, creators of the unofficial Whatsapp+ client released the Telegram Plus app, later renamed to Plus Messenger, after their original project got a cease-and-desist order from WhatsApp.[180][181] In September 2015, Samsung released a messaging application based on these APIs.[182]

In September 2015, in response to a question about the use of Telegram by Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS), Pavel Durov stated: "I think that privacy, ultimately, and our right for privacy is more important than our fear of bad things happening, like terrorism."[231] Durov sarcastically suggested to ban words because terrorists use them for communication.[232] ISIS recommended Telegram to its supporters and members[233][234][235] and in October 2015 they were able to double the number of followers of their official channel to 9,000.[236] In November 2015, Telegram announced that it had blocked 78 public channels operated by ISIS for spreading its propaganda and mass communication.[237][238][239] Telegram stated that it would block public channels and bots that are related to terrorism, but it would not honor "politically-motivated censorship" based on "local restrictions on freedom of speech" and that it allowed "peaceful expression of alternative opinions."[240] ISIS's usage of Telegram reignited the encryption debate and encrypted messaging applications faced new scrutiny.[241][242]

The chairman of the public organization "Electronic Democracy" Volodymyr Flents on 11 May 2020 announced that a Telegram bot appeared on the Web, which sold the personal data of Ukrainian citizens. It is estimated that the bot contains data from 26 million Ukrainians registered in the Diia application. However, subsequently, deputy prime minister and minister of digital transformation Mykhailo Fedorov denied any data from the app being leaked. The criminal activity of 25 people has already been confirmed and copies of 30 databases were seized.[274][275][276]

Telegram's security model has received praise and notable criticism by cryptography experts. They criticized how, unless modified first, the default general security model stores all contacts, messages and media together with their decryption keys on its servers continuously; and that it does not enable end-to-end encryption for messages by default.[298][299] Pavel Durov has argued that this is because it helps to avoid third-party unsecured backups, and to allow users to access messages and files from any device. Criticisms were also aimed at Telegram's use of a custom-designed encryption protocol.[298][300][301][302] However, in December 2020, a study titled "Automated Symbolic Verification of Telegram's MTProto 2.0" was published, confirming the security of the updated MTProto 2.0 and reviewing it while pointing out several theoretical vulnerabilities.[303][304] The paper provides "fully automated proof of the soundness of MTProto 2.0's authentication, normal chat, end-to-end encrypted chat, and re-keying mechanisms with respect to several security properties, including authentication, integrity, confidentiality and perfect forward secrecy" and "proves the formal correctness of MTProto 2.0". This partially addresses the concern about the lack of scrutiny while confirming the formal security of the protocol's latest version.[303][304]

The desktop clients (excluding the macOS client) do not feature options for end-to-end encrypted messages. When the user assigns a local password in the desktop application, data is locally encrypted also. Telegram has defended the lack of ubiquitous end-to-end encryption by claiming the online-backups that do not use client-side encryption are "the most secure solution currently possible".[305] ff782bc1db
