Tresorit.exe also checks (every five seconds) for signs that Tresorit domains have been hijacked, such that an attacker might be able to serve their own code from tresorit.com and gain same-origin-policy access to drive.tresorit.com. I'm not sure this is sufficient given that some browsers like to use their own "secure" DNS resolvers these days, independent from the system resolver. However, this deficiency is probably mitigated by the fact that tresorit.com is enrolled for HSTS preload.

Why does Tresorit.exe insist on binding drive.tresorit.com to 127.0.0.1, in the hosts file if necessary? Presumably this is to support some feature in the web application via same-origin-policy, however I cannot find any feature in my individual "Premium" trial plan that would appear to justify this. (I'm aware of something called "DFO" in Tresorit documentation, but I've been unable to locate this in the web interface. Maybe I'm missing something?)

Personal and business users go through an extensive onboarding process, which is good since using Tresorit is slightly different than other cloud providers. Immediately upon creating an account, you must download the Tresorit desktop app.

The mobile app shares many of the elements and functionality of the desktop app. The most notable differences are the ability to make files offline and the option to upload images from your camera automatically.

For a very long time, Tresorit has been praised to be the single most secure alternative to traditional cloud storage services (Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, etc). It features zero-knowledge encryption, and it is indeed extremely secure. It features mobile, web, and desktop apps, and its prices and usability are very reasonable. The biggest downside is that they are closed-source and have not been audited by a third party, so trust is required.

Tresorit has been brought up in multiple previous discussions, but has never actually been looked at. We should probably consider it, because our current cloud storage providers are very lacking: Nextcloud is mostly only good as a self-hosted solution, and neither Proton Drive nor Cryptee have desktop sync clients.

I use Mega and Dropbox. I do encrypt my own private data, even though they both have end to end encryption. Just to be on the safe side. I find that using a browser (I use FF) with Mega is very easy, and Dropbox has a desktop app for Solus.

Mega is free, and Dropbox is very reasonably priced. Of course, I only transfer from/to my PC, no other devices (for now).

:-)

The application itself looks great and works like a charm. You can do everything within the application that you can do on your desktop. You can even enable automatic upload of your photos which is, let us be honest, a regular feature with cloud storages nowadays.

The simple answer is yes. You can share both files and tresors from almost anywhere in the Tresorit website or desktop client. Sharing tresors can be done by creating a public link, which can be copied and pasted to any location, or by inviting individuals with a personal link based on their email address.

When you first open the desktop app, your first personal "Tresor" is automatically created - that being the company's moniker for a secure encrypted folder. Users can create as many additional Tresors as they wish, and policies determine who they can share them with.

Launched in 2010, ownCloud has plenty of experience and had time to foster an extensive ecosystem of integrations that enable users to productively work with their data. In terms of productivity integrations, ownCloud provides seamless and secure integrations with Microsoft Office Online Server, Collabora Online and ONLYOFFICE, whether on cloud servers or, for full control, on-premises. To open documents stored with tresorit means transferring them across the internet into another service, potentially opening up all sorts of attack surfaces.

The service has a friendly desktop client app that lets you track your "tresored" folders, see how much space is available and invite users to share folders with you. But Tresorit's real selling point, of course, is its encryption.

Comments:This is a very functional, secure and user friendly application. My clients do not need a tresorit account for me to send them confidential files or documents. I can work from multiple sites or multiple devices and maintain a secure data source. I can limit access to certain files or folders to different people and I get a comprehensive audit trail including deleted files. No system is perfect but Tresorit is getting close and it is being improved constantly.

File restoration and access are simple as well. You can access your files from the web, a mobile app, or the desktop app. Accessing is as simple as opening a folder on your PC. You can also use a search feature if you know the name of the file you want. e24fc04721
