In order for a new character set to show the typographical inverted commas, they must be created. If these are missing, a substitute character is shown and this is the straight inverted comma. Franz has explained how to create the typographic quotation marks in Fontself in his tutorial -quotation-marks-and-apostrophe and -create-accents-symbols-punctuation.

I've had an idea for a company rebranding, the name is 'Business Quotes' and I'm thinking the open/closed tags look a bit like 6 9 or b q... if anybody catches my drift? The issue I have is finding nice looking quotation marks in Type faces. Does anybody have any preferred fonts? Thanks!

Since upgrading to Sierra, on my merry way through upgrading my mac to get as up to date as I can, I have found that Safari and Mail are showing loads of question marks instead of words. Obviously its a font issue and the fonts that should be displayed are maybe not being found to be rendered as they are.

I had installed Font Explorer X to manage fonts but have also deactivated it and this has little to no bearing on the rendering of the actual fonts. When font explorer x is activated then when opening up and using safari and mail I get repeated requests for fonts which are not activated, many of which are not on my system. Fonts such as Google Sans, Paypal Sans, Myanmar Sangam MN, Market sans are names which appear. Its rather erratic and I am trying to comprehend what the issue is in order to resolve it.

I did find a temporary solution in Font Explorer X cleaning the system font cache. I got this message also (See image) and was wondering if this offers insight into what the issue is. Once the cache is cleared then a restart is required and this can give a short term solution until the Mac goes to sleep during periods of inactivity. Once re awakened then the question marks reappear.

Having gone through numerous possible solutions, restarts, cache clearing, installing/reinstalling software etc, I eventually tried just removing a few fonts and importing them again to Font Explorer X. Ones that were generating the question marks. These appeared in sites such as ebay and in many messages in Mail. I found out what they were by copying the question marks and pasting them into Pages to see what they were. Though the fonts were already installed in the fonts folder and also into Font Explorer X they didn't load in those browser pages in Safari and also Mail.

There is definitely a font management issue here which is presenting itself in a couple of different ways. The question marks and the requests from FEX to install fonts which I don't have installed for Mail, Notifications etc such as the ones I mentioned earlier.

Having got rid of the question marks I have found that I can reproduce the same again when I start up Font Explorer Pro X so I shall nip over to their support and see if there are any recorded issues and solutions. There is obviously an underlying issue regards where fonts are installed and how they are being managed. So I have a partial solution as I still require Font Explorer Pro X to manage several thousand fonts used for design work.

A certain email from John Lewis would often show up with the question mark icons showing. If I copied and pasted the question marks into, for example, a Word document, it showed up as the .LastResort font. I believe this is the substitute font Mac uses for fonts it can't 'find' or is having difficulty with. So first I had to find out what the actual font was it was having trouble with. To do this, I opened Gmail online/through my browser, found the email. Online, the email read OK, with no question marks. When I copied and pasted the online email text into Word, I discovered it was Gill Light my Mac was having a problem with. Then I went to my Font Manager, which is FontExplorer (I'm a graphic designer, I have hundreds of fonts). Found all my Gill Sans fonts. Turned out I had some duplicates. I switched off a set of duplicates, and immediately the rogue email showed correctly, I didn't even have to do a Mac restart. So, I deleted that bunch of duplicates from the font manager, and I hope the problem will clear permanently.

If you simply increase the font size of the quote character, it moves too far away from the text it's accompanying. Worse, the first and last lines start to detach from the rest of the paragraph. Here's what I mean (this is Calibri I think):

So here's how you can do this, not that difficult. All you need is three text box's and a little messing around with word. Make the first text box and write (or copy/paste) your quote into it. Make a second text box, and type a large quote-mark in it, like this ". Then when you make your third, do the same (make sure to make the other quote mark the same colour, font, and size for better effect). Drag the two quote marks (each in their own text box's) beside the quote and wa-la! Done. Sorry, I couldn't post pictures because I "need at least 10 reputation to post images"

I have the following problem on mobile only .( I tested on an Android device) The letters with diacritical marksĀ  andĀ  are displayed with a big ugly sans serif font, although my fall-back font is serif. This happens on the jumbotron where I am using the font Comprehension that I got from fontlibrary.

HI- Recently lots of my fonts have started displaying as question marks on certain sites (such as the autofill on Google). If I uncheck the box in prefs that allows websites to use their own fonts, it's fine. But then the sites look nasty. I've reinstalled Firefox 69.0.2 but its no better. It's a work Apple mac so I can't access all the settings but the issue is only on Firefox. Please don't make me use Chrome! Thanks

You can check in the Rules tab in the right panel in the Inspector what font-family is used for selected text. You can check in the Font tab in the right panel in the Inspector what font is actually used because Firefox might be using a different font than specified by the website.

My files in XD are suddenly showing question marks when starting a new paragraph but only for certain fonts and some of the fonts used by the application in the tool bar are showing question marks as well

We're so sorry to hear about the trouble. Please try the suggestions shared here and if this doesn't help, please try disabling your font manager if you're using any, and then test again. Let us know if this helps or if you need any further assistance.

Hey there, when did this start happening? Are you using some font manager? Did you install or remove any fonts just before the issue occured? I will assume you've tried logging out and back in your account in the CC app.

The proper font selection can take your visualization from good to great. Whether you're changing the font size, position, color, or direction, Tableau provides a wide range of customization options for your text.

Adjusting the font here will apply changes to all the text in the tooltip, the field that pops up when someone hovers over a mark in your view. If you want more control over the fields in the tooltip, see Format Text

Tooltips are details that appear whenyou rest the pointer over one or more marks in the view. Tooltipsalso offer convenient tools to quickly filter or remove a selection, select marks that have the same valueor view underlying data. You can edit the tooltip to include bothstatic and dynamic text. You can also modify which fields are includedin the automatic tooltip.

Switching to a different font isn't an option because it's a 140-page periodical, and that would mean changing the whole darned thing. I'd like to avoid using images of the missing characters if I can, as those are so tricky to size and align correctly with the text flow. I can't just add the characters in FontForge because of the licensing, and because Adobe CC locks its font files down tight.

Hello! My operating system is windows 7 and I am suffering weird font problem. I am from finland and we have this special alphabet "" (I am not sure that you can see it anyway), bricscad cannot show this alphabet right and it draws question mark instead of this alphabet. We have several systems running XP without this error and two windows 7 systems and both have this error. This symbol worked fine earlier but I updated my bricscad and got this error, if I reinstall earlier version it wont fix problem. I would appreciate any help because we have deadline coming soon and those question marks are also visible in printed papers.

beeing German spoken, I use "" "" "" all the time without any problem, exept ...

I often import dxf files from an old DOS program, in these dxf-files the above characters are

replaced by some strange looking signs. So, do you have these problems with all your files or only

with a few of them, if it's only with a few, of them it would be interesting to know their origin

and if something can be changed on the settings there. Or could it be that they are created on a MAC ?

But otherwise ... what kind of font do you use ttf or shx. If it's ttf, it's either not on your system

or the file on your system doesn't contain the "", or type ALT + 0228 (on the number pad) and seeĀ

what happens.

If it's an shx file, it's probably missing in the Bricsys/Font folder. 2351a5e196
