In January 2011, the series was picked up by CBC Radio One in Canada.[26] The program is shortened slightly for the Canadian broadcast to allow for a five-minute newscast at the top of the hour, although this is partly made up for by the removal of mid-program breaks, most of the production credits (apart from that of Malatia), and underwriting announcements (CBC's radio services being fully commercial-free, except when contractually or legally required).

The show received positive reviews from the beginning. Marc Fisher with American Journalism Review drew attention to how the program's production style elicits "a sense of ease, informality and direct, unfiltered access", and "the effect is liberating".[20] After remarking that producing so many stories each episode is "labor intensive," David Stewart with Current said it is "remarkable that while a few stories were fatuous or trite, most were successful and some really memorable." This American Life's 361st episode's, "Fear of Sleep", section "Stranger in the Night" featured an excerpt from Mike Birbiglia's one-man show, "Sleepwalk with Me". This inspired Glass to work with Birbiglia for two years on a movie based on this segment. The film version of Sleepwalk with Me screened at the Sundance Film Festival on January 23, 2012, to favorable reviews, winning the "Best of NEXT Audience Award".[70]

Since October 2006, the program has offered a free podcast feed to the public. This study aimed to evaluate and quantify the search engine optimization (SEO) benefits of adding audio transcripts to a public website of a radio program. Website data was collected over a 36-month period from April 2011 to March 2014. However, the results of this report are based on the 27-month period from January 2012 to March 2014 (the first several months were excluded to account for transcription processing and for the SEO effects of transcription to propagate). During this period, the TAL website had about 16 million unique visitors and 111 million page views. Google Analytics was used to obtain the data.

The Alabama law is widely considered by many civil and human rights and immigration advocates to be the most draconian law in the nation. As a result of such concerns, a coalition of national civil and human rights and worker rights organizations is calling for foreign investors in Alabama to join them in urging the Alabama State Legislature to repeal H.B. 56. Due to the hostile environment and shattered expectations that H.B. 56 has created for foreign-owned business, it is hoped that many companies will add their voices to this vital call.

Go Ask Your Father is episode 289 of This American Life. In this show, sons and daughters get to find out the one thing they've always wanted to know about their father. And the answers aren't always what they hope for. When Aric Knuth was a kid his dad, a Merchant Marine, would leave for six months at a time and Aric would record cassettes of himself and send them, leaving one side blank for his father to record a response. But he never did. Aric talks to host Ira Glass about what it was like to finally ask his dad why.

This case is based on an episode from NPR's show, This American Life (students can be assigned to either read the transcript or listen to the audio file). The story, "More is Less", originally aired in 2009. The case focuses on the rising costs of health care in the United States and consists of four acts. The first three each provide several short stories highlighting the role health care providers, patients, and insurance companies play in driving up the cost of care.

This case provides an excellent opportunity for students to apply the theoretical material from a Health Care Economics course to a variety of short, real world, scenarios. Students are assigned to either read or listen to the case in full and to act as a "lawyer" for one of the groups featured in the first three acts. Their mission is to use relevant economic tools and theories to defend their "client" and to demonstrate why the other two groups are truly to blame. From this experience students gain an understanding of the complex relationships and interactions that take place in health care markets.
