As I finally got around to installing first VMware 6.0 host in my lab environment, I decided to follow-up the installation of vCenter server appliance. This would allow me to manage the hosts I install later as well as the first host I installed moments ago. Not only that, I wanted to put in the infrastructure configuration in place before installing all the other hosts so I can achieve a level of consistency across the board. Installing vCenter server right after installing the first host would allow me to do that. In the past, I have used vCenter server installation media for Windows server but this time I decided to try the appliance instead. Why do more work than necessary!

The plug-in installation media is a zip file (netbackup-vwc-plugin.zip) that needs to be hosted on a web server. This file contains the plug-in software that the VMware vCenter downloads for plug-in deployment.

The Access/Backup host is where the NBU client is installed that will have access/credentials to vCenter/ESX.

Ideally you want it to be a NetBackup Media Server for the most direct route between the data and the media server storage.

So your NBU is on 812, what is OS where it is running? I have NBU master/media server running on linux, added just credentials to vSphere server and no backup host was added and this is working. Not sure maybe your master/media server is no supported or something. Do you have any media servers?

So I am a beginner to VMware and I am trying to install it on my Dell PowerEdge r710 server. I downloaded the free version of VMware Vsphere ESXI 7.0 from customer connect. But when I try to flash the iso to a flash drive using Balena Etcher, it said that my iso didn't have a boot partition and was unbootable. I have seen some YouTubers flash ESXI 7.0 using Etcher and it booted without issue. When I plugged it in, the server didn't even recognize the USB as bootable. After I tried again and forced the dell to boot from the USB, it immediately fails and goes to the network / san boot then goes back to the boot menu. So hopefully I can fix this because I spent a lot of money on that server.

Download the vCenter Server 8 installer media and mount it to a machine that can access the vSphere management network. In the vCenter Server installer, navigate to the vcsa-ui-installer directory, go to the subdirectory for your operating system, and run the installer executable file.

Except where noted, the component installer deploys software prerequisites automatically (such as .NET and C++ packages) if the required versions are not detected on the machine. The Citrix installation media also contains some of this prerequisite software.

Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.0 and ASP.NET 2.0. Ensure that the IIS server role has the Static Content role service installed. If this software is not already installed, you are prompted for the Windows Server installation media. Then, that software is installed for you.

Once you have finished entering the required information, the screen will now show the progress of the installer. Ubuntu Server now installs a concise set of useful software required for servers. This cuts down on the install and setup time dramatically. Of course, after the install is finished, you can install any additional software you may need.

Since I have 2 servers, I decided to do a fresh install using the generic installer, and then use the HPE addon to install all the HPE addons, drivers, and software. I would perform these steps on one server at a time, continuing to the next if all went well.

An operating system is a collection of resources that define how Foreman server installs a base operating system on a host.Operating system entries combine previously defined resources, such as installation media, partition tables, provisioning templates, and others.

Installation media are sources of packages that Foreman server uses to install a base operating system on a machine from an external repository. When you install the Katello plug-in, you can download packages from a Pulp mirror. In this case, installation media are ignored.

Installation media must be in the format of an operating system installation tree, and must be accessible to the machine hosting the installer through an HTTP URL.You can view installation media by navigating to Hosts > Installation Media menu.

The next-server option provides the IP address of the TFTP server to boot from. This option is not set by default and must be set for each TFTP Smart Proxy. You can use the foreman-installer command with the --foreman-proxy-tftp-servername option to set the TFTP server in the /etc/foreman-proxy/settings.d/tftp.yml file:

Some hardware does not provide a PXE boot interface. In Foreman, you can provision a host without PXE boot. This is also known as PXE-less provisioning and involves generating a boot ISO that hosts can use.Using this ISO, the host can connect to Foreman server, boot the installation media, and install the operating system.

A boot ISO for the specific host. This image contains only the boot files that are necessary to access the installation media on Foreman server. The user defines the subnet data in Foreman and the image is created with static networking.

In Foreman, you can integrate with Cockpit to perform actions and monitor your hosts.Using Cockpit, you can access Lorax Composer and build images that you can then upload to a HTTP server and use this image to provision hosts. When you configure Foreman for image provisioning, Anaconda installer partitions disks, downloads and mounts the image and copies files over to a host. The preferred image type is TAR.

To install Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, download the server install image from the Ubuntu Releases page. For more information on the installer and options of the installation wizard, see the official Canonical guide.

I am exploring OL9 as a possible replacement for CentOS, but already having trouble simply installing. I read through the versions, and decided on the Unbreakable Kernel, and downloaded the ISO to my ESXi server. I created a VM and launched it, and the installation started. I selected "Test this media and Install Oracle Linux 9.1.0" and the VM booted into the installation menu.

Obviously, it won't let me proceed without entering all items marked with an orange alert triangle. I can enter and clear all of them except for "Installation Source" which starts with a subheading of "Error setting up base repository", and "Software Selection - Installation source not set up".

The "Installation Source" has a question, "Which Installation Source would you like to use" with two choices: "Auto Detected Installation Media" and "On the network". Since I downloaded the ISO and mounted it as a CD/DVD, and I see the installation has recognized the SR0 device, I chose "Auto Detected Installation Media" and click the "Verify" button. A new window pops up saying, "Media Verification", then a moment later it says, "This media is good to install from", with a single choice of, "OK". however when I select "Done" and return to the installation screen it returns to an orange alert triangle: "Installation Source - setting up Installation Source..." until ultimately it fails (?) with "Error setting up base repository".

I've even tried a text-based installation, but nothing I do seems to clear the Orange Alert Triangle. I have to admit this isn't a good first impression of Oracle Linux. Is the ISO I downloaded not actually capable of installing the product? If not, why does the installation test the media and tell me it verifies and is good to install from, and what did I download? What else do I need to do to actually get a working install and test out OL9 in a VM?

Ideas? Thoughts? What is going wrong?

I've put a m.2 SSD on my Gen10 DL380 riser and want to install esxi on it. I made a raid 0 volume and it show up in ilo and intelligent provisioning but no version of esxi installer seems to find it to let me use that as the installer media. 2351a5e196
