I was literally told for "The Show Goes On" that I shouldn't rap too deep. I shouldn't be too lyrical. It just needs to be something easy on the eyes. Like a record company telling Picasso that we don't need these abstract interpretations of life, where people have to sit down and look at it and break it down. It was better to paint the Upper West Side lady and her poodle so everyone could look at it right away and understand what was going on. I felt like I was painting poodles. It's why in the first line of "The Show Goes On" I paraphrase Johnny Rotten at the Sex Pistols' final show: "Have you ever had the feeling that you were being cheated".

The music video for "The Show Goes On" was released on December 25, 2010. It was directed by Hiro Murai and shows Lupe backstage preparing for a performance.[8] Contrary to popular belief[who?], the skull and crossbones glove is actually associated with Mastermind Japan the and not Lupe Fiasco's post-punk band, Japanese Cartoon. It was MTV's last Jam Of The Week of 2010. The video itself was nominated for MTV's Video Music Award for Best Hip Hop Video in 2011.

Since the 1940s, various circuses and carnivals have chosen to winter in Hugo, Oklahoma. Each November the town welcomes back the employees and the menagerie and each April, the performers host a show for the town before leaving for the road. Over the years a symbiotic relationship has been nurtured where the town's businesses have supported the circuses and carnivals and in turn, circus owners and performers have been civic partners contributing to such endeavors as to the local hospital and local schools. The circus is about creating illusion, stimulating the imagination, and providing family entertainment. At the heart of this project is capturing information about the occupations that help define it.

Historically big tent circuses and outdoor carnivals have traveled from small town to small town entertaining young and old alike with aerial and animal acts. Childhood memories of cotton candy and "Step Right Up" can be recalled by many. The contemporary cultural landscape of the United States is almost circus free. From organ grinders to handbill designers to tent set up crews to local welders to local bankers, it takes a community to put on the show! Hugo, Oklahoma provides a rich historical canvas in which to preserve and document this unique aspect of working life.

All Things Considered is the most listened-to, afternoon drive-time, news radio program in the country. Each show consists of the biggest stories of the day, thoughtful commentaries, and insightful features brought alive through sound.

"The Show Goes On" premiered during his live Ustream feed and later appeared on his official website, available for free download on October 29, 2010.[6][7] In an interview with Complex, Fiasco shared that he had "nothing to do with that record." He did not know any of the people he collaborated with, and explained, "[Last April] I was backstage at a show at the House of Blues in L.A. and the president of [Atlantic Records] came to me and said, 'Hey check this out, I got this song.' He played 'Show Goes On' for me on the iPod. I was used to it because they presented me like ten other songs in the same fashion or via email. So for me, at that point, it was just another record like, 'Is this a song you want me to do?' There was nothing special about it for me at that point. It was like, 'You know we still want off the label, right?' That was the conversations we were having."[8] Fiasco wanted "Beautiful Lasers" to be the lead single instead, as it was "super meaningful" for him.[9]

In XXL, it was clarified that the record along with "Never Forget You" had to be on the album. He revealed to The Guardian of the particular lyric, 'Have you ever had the feelin' that you was bein' had?' was so fitting, because it had him "at gunpoint. It was, 'If you don't do The Show Goes On, your album's not coming out.'"[10] He informed Music Connection that the first verse was directed at Atlantic, and continued, "It's about a process that was becoming very difficult. A very ugly, crazy situation with lawyers, managers, and all kinds of chicanery being done by certain people, and it get's kinda nasty. It's less about me throwing people under the bus or naming names, and more about the process of going from a nobody to a somebody in a business where they're trying to get you to be famous by any means necessary. They don't care if it's authentic or not, or if it goes against the artist's sensibilities, so I'm critiquing the whole process of the fame game."[11] Meanwhile, he told Chicago Tribune:

So now I get into breaking the cardinal rule, which Jay-Z told me early on was, "Don't chase radio." You fast forward to 2011 and it's let's chase radio. It becomes an interesting hypocrisy that affects how you write your songs, who you hire to sing hooks, who you hire to produce. It's why in the first line of "The Show Goes On" I paraphrase Johnny Rotten at the Sex pistols' final show: "Have you ever had the feeling that you were being cheated."[12]

While Fiasco showed disproval for its creation process, the single ended up being his biggest hit, peaking in the Top 10 on Billboard Hot 100 and remained in the charts for thirty-three consecutive weeks. It achieved 3x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA on March 13, 2014.

The accompanying music video, directed by Japanese-American filmmaker Hiro Murai, premiered to YouTube on December 25, 2010.[19] It depicts Fiasco preparing to go onstage to perform. A majority of the footage was his walk from the dressing room to the stage. He remarked about the visual, "I've never really done a performance video. It was an interesting take for the performance not to be on the stage, but moreso the show behind the stage."[1]

He told MTV News on March 7, "This one seemed fitting in the sense that [the director] wanted to tell the story about what goes on behind the scenes, which, I think, was so much a part of Lasers, the album. Why it is, how it's manifested, the songs on there, all have these massive amounts of story lines of behind the scenes. This is what happened; this is what happened with this record. Even 'The Show Goes On' has a story to it that some people, when they hear it in its completion, their jaws drop." He continued, "We already know what the performance is, we already know [who] you are, let's give it a little more of a personal feel, so we can see the route taken behind the scenes, literally, from the dressing room to the stage. We already know what is onstage. We already know what the public life is, so let's see what goes on behind the scenes. And [the video] speaks to a lot of the stuff on the album, beyond 'The Show Goes On.'"[20]

Samford School of the Arts continues to celebrate the work of its students despite being away from campus due to COVID-19. The John and Marsha Floyd Art and Design Series Annual Student Juried Exhibition was planned to open in the Art Gallery on April 6. Fortunately, the show will go on virtually. Guest juror and artist Sarah West judged the more than 80 student entries and selected 22 works that are currently displayed on the School of the Arts website. Entries included work from graphic design, studio art and interior architecture majors. The show features a variety of mediums, from motion graphics to sculpture.

The fun and entertainment of this cosmic rodeo will be as limitless as the universe itself, thanks to the illustrious hostess Monica Moree and the returning cast of performers taking the stage for this virtual rendition of the show. This event will be free to view from kstateupc.com; streaming information will be provided 48 hours in advance. Virtual tipping is encouraged as you watch at home with your own popcorn and treats!

A principal of the design firm Sagmeister & Walsh, Sagmeister works with dozens of collaborators to create the interactive, video, and art pieces, oversees the installation of each show, gives press conferences and media tours, and is present at the openings. All of which, to me, is exhilarating as well as exhausting to contemplate. I caught up with him last week to discuss the project.

A: The show is different scale in different venues. It was about 5,000 square feet in Philadelphia. It is slightly smaller in Toronto and will be much bigger in Paris. The various places get their own sponsors. The show in Philadelphia was made possible by a generous grant from the PEI foundation. The Toronto show is sponsored by Sharpie and Mini Canada.
