With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including "Under the Sea," "Kiss the Girl" and "Part of Your World."

Famed composer and frequent Disney collaborator Alan Menken returns to score The Little Mermaid live-action remake. Menken has been nominated for 19 Academy Awards, winning eight, including one for "Under the Sea" in the original Little Mermaid animated film (he was also nominated against himself that year for "Kiss the Girl"). Many of The Little Mermaid's original classic songs will be on the remake soundtrack, with only two cuts. Menken also collaborated with iconic songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda to write four new songs for the movie. One, "Impossible Child", sung by King Triton (Javier Bardem) was cut (via Yahoo), but the others liven up The Little Mermaid's new soundtrack.

Rob Marshall's new live action reimagining of The Little Mermaid is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton's daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric.

While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life - and her father's crown - in jeopardy.

Disney has released the music video for 'The Scuttlebutt' from The Little Mermaid, sung by Awkwafina and Daveed Diggs. The Little Mermaid is now playing in theaters. The film's soundtrack, which features three new songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken, is also now available.

The Little Mermaid tells the story of Ariel, a teenage mermaid princess fascinated by the human world. Her father is Triton, king of the underwater kingdom of Atlantica. While previous Disney princesses were passive, Ariel is headstrong and sassy. The dynamic between daughter and father gave moviegoers of all ages something to which they could relate. Ariel is the typical teenager desperate for a taste of freedom, while Triton is the protective parent torn between protecting his child and letting them find their way in the world.

The Little Mermaid is the soundtrack to Disney's 1989 animated feature The Little Mermaid. It contains the songs from the film written by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, as well as the film's score composed by Alan Menken. The score was orchestrated by Thomas Pasatieri.

The soundtrack was first released on October 13, 1989 on both CD and cassette tape. On October 3, 2006, a new two-disc special edition version of the soundtrack was released to correspond with the two-disc Platinum Edition DVD release of The Little Mermaid. The first disc remains identical to the original release, yet with remastered audio, while the newly added second disc is composed of various newly recorded version of the film's songs by different artists, such as Ashley Tisdale, Raven-Symon, The Jonas Brothers, and Jessica Simpson. It also included two videos, as well as new cover art.

The soundtrack was later followed up with The Legacy Collection: The Little Mermaid, a more comprehensive release that contained all of the music and songs from the original soundtrack, but also much instrumental and some vocal material that was previously unreleased.

Certain pieces of music from the movie remain unreleased in any format from Disney. At one time, the most important and most puzzling is a short reprise of "Poor Unfortunate Souls." This song has been unofficially named "Vanessa's Song" but until the release of The Legacy Collection soundtrack was never recognized or named by Disney.

The best element of Disney movie musicals is undoubtedly the music. Disney's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid gives audiences a mix of their favorite classics with modern tweaks, including three new songs and several updates to the soundtrack's iconic tunes.

The soundtrack features the vocal talents of the film's new cast, including GRAMMY-nominated singer Halle Bailey as the titular mermaid, Princess Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, and Javier Bardem as King Triton, with Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian the crab, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, and Awkwafina as Scuttle.

Ariel is also treated to a new, original song! In a clever workaround for the mermaid-turned-human lacking a voice for a large chunk of the story, Menken and Miranda wrote a song for Ariel -- who only sings once in the animated film -- after she's been welcomed into the castle with her new legs.

In the third act, Scuttle -- now sporting some new feathers as a gannet rather than a seagull -- dives into Ariel's bedroom in the castle to deliver some important information to the mermaid and Sebastian. But, because of Scuttle's inability to tell a straightforward story, the bird's message gets muddled as she and Sebastian parse through the facts to land at the big news.

"I think naturally, I just really tried my best to stay true to myself with every choice that I would make in acting, especially in the songs," Bailey told ET about the various song changes. "I was really grateful to Rob Marshall that he gave me the freedom to just be me and sing how Halle would sing. And some of those inflections and riffs I was allowed to do -- that was fun to be able to play because the original music that we have is so beautiful and such a staple in all of our childhoods; the fact that I got to tweak and edit it a little bit was like so much fun and a joy to have that creative freedom." ff782bc1db
