I'm trying to install again telegram on some old devices with android 2.3 gingerbread after some software issues that forced me to reflash the firmware and upon trying to log in with my phone number the apps throw all the same error asking to update. Are there some forks or alternative ways to login on the older clients? I tried both with the classic telegram app and with the last compatibile version of Plus Messenger that I had archived years back to no avail.

This looks like a telegram issue. Now have to find an old telegram version and flash. Telegram not being a part of the /e/OS is good in this case otherwise as a system app it would not have been possible to upgrade or downgrade and individual app.

It's worth noting that the package name associated with the Play Store version of Telegram is "org.telegram.messenger," whereas the package name for the APK file directly downloaded from Telegram's website is "org.telegram.messenger.web."

$HOME/telegram-android/TMessagesProj/build/outputs/apk/afat/release/app.apk

Copy this APK to the root source directory by running this command in Terminal:

cp $HOME/telegram-android/TMessagesProj/build/outputs/apk/afat/release/app.apk $HOME/telegram-android/telegram_built.apk

If you downloaded your APK directly from Telegram's website, use the package name org.telegram.messenger.web in this step. To verify the Google Play APK, use org.telegram.messenger.

To compare Direct and Huawei Store versions, open Terminal, run the commands:

cd $HOME/telegram-android

python apkdiff.py telegram_store.apk telegram_built.apk

If the APKs are the same, you will see

APKs are the same!

The malware disguises itself as Telegram Messenger version 9.2.1. It has the identical package name (org.telegram.messenger) and the same icon as the original Telegram application. Upon launch, the user is presented with the Telegram authentication screen, is asked to enter the device phone number, and to grant the application phone permissions.

It is the Flatpak one as that is the current release 3.5.2 the one in Zorin in 3.1.1 which is quite old so I need the flatpak one. I just did a test. I allowed Zorin to update to 16.1 and then removed and installed telegram and still the same problem.

I would like to add that the flatpak version of Telegram that I use had the same issue. For some reason that issue does not exist anymore. This problem existed in Pop! OS as well, until a few days ago when this stopped happening.

My telegram version is same i.e. 3.5.2

It should be noted that the malicious Evil Telegram apps used the package names 'org.telegram.messenger.wab' and 'org.telegram.messenger.wob,' while the legitimate Telegram app has a package name of 'org.telegram.messenger.web.'

Telegram web may not be working as the Telegram server is down. Another reason is that Telegram is banned in your country. If telegram web not working in chrome browser, such as Chrome, too much cache and extension also could be the reason.
