The tablet remote that came with my Vizio M50-D1 downloaded and installed an OTA update last night that effectively bricked the device. It would boot up, hang on the logo screen for a while and then tell me it was optimizing 1 of however many apps. At which point it would restart and go through the same process over and over again.

I contacted Vizio customer support and after 45 mins or so we were able to successfully reset the tablet to it's original factory state. The support rep mentioned that they had an influx of calls this morning regarding this issue so I figured I would post the steps here to hopefully help out some fellow redditors.

If your tablet will not power down, press and hold the volume down button and the power button at the same time. Continue holding, the tablet will reboot after 7-10 seconds. Release both buttons once you see the Vizio/Android boot screen.

At this point the tablet will reboot and go through the initial setup process, this can take several minutes. After it completes the process it will bring you the SmartCast setup screen. You will need to go through the SmartCast setup process just as you did when you first unboxed the tablet.

I recently got a medium Wacom Intuos Pro tablet, which I was really excited to integrate into my visualization practice as an architect. Currently, due to the pandemic, the whole office is working remotely via a Chrome Remote Desktop connection. Today, I sat down all excited to get my tablet up and running, but cannot get my desktop to recognize when I click or draw with my pen. I've installed the Wacom driver on the desktop located in the office, and it can recognize the pen, but as I said no clicking or drawing with it. Is there a workaround for this or am I doomed to not be able to work with my tablet? I'm starting to suspect you have to have the tablet physically connected to the computer hosting the PSD file, which is not great news as I can only connect it to my laptop at home for now.

The laptop at home is a Dell XPS13, have not had issues with it and the new Wacom tablet. The desktop in the office is a dell as well, not sure about the exact model to be honest. Wacom tablet is an Intuos Pro Medium.

The back of the remote has two rubber feet which are meant to allow the device to stick to your screen. It sticks onto a clean screen for angles of around 0 to 60 degrees. Any steeper than that and the rubber feet cannot hold the remote in place.

Note: I have noticed that the rubber feet do not stick if they have even a slight amount of dust on them, so try cleaning the rubber feet and tablet screen if you find that it is not gripping the monitor.

The settings of the shortcut remote are simple enough. Each button has its corresponding drop-down menu where you can choose to assign the default function, run a program, or assign a function key.

Note: A lot of Amazon reviews say some buttons are not programmable, but those reviews are wrong or outdated. All the buttons are programmable with the current XP-Pen drivers.

Using the function key option, you can assign mouse clicks, keyboard shortcuts, or one of the four extra functions built into the driver. I believe the Switch Monitor function does not work for non-XP-Pen tablets.

Hi - I was just idling by and wondered, I get really fed up with my Roon app having to reload itself whenever I am so naughty as to switch to another app on my iPad - is there another cheap tablet that can deal properly with multiple apps in memory out there?

Well I do have experience with Amazon Fire HD tablets - both an 8th generation HD 8 and a 10th generation HD 10 - used as Roon remotes. They both work great but neither one is has fast as an iPad, however the Roon Remote app does not need to reload when switching between apps.

I picked up the Fire HD 8 with a show dock for $50 on closeout since the tablet is the previous generation. The latest Fire HD 8 does not have a show dock available however it does still run Roon Remote.

Someone did start a thread about the remote on this forum, to a somewhat lukewarm reception. That thread is here - YIO Remote 2 - A premium smart remote with Roon support - Roon Software Discussion - Roon Labs Community

I use my Galaxy Tab S7+ and the RDP app to remote in to my Beelink. 10"+ AMOLED screen, Android. It isn't a good as with a laptop, but good enough for most things. Once in a while I'll have to take a monitor outside and do a direct connection with the Beelink.

While I love my laptop with two screen set-up (imaging program on the main screen, planetarium, focusing, guiding, weather monitoring programs on the second screen) inside, RDP via the Android tablet is REAL convenient if I have to go out to the scope to fiddle with something.

I use a 10" Samsug tablet a remote sites. I used RDP to control CPWI, NINA, PHD2 and CDC. No problem at all, get a Bluetooth mouse as it it sure make it simple. You can always zoom the screen if too small in one area.

I forgot to mention, my Galaxy Tab S7+ has an S pen. I think any tablet/stylus combo will work just as well. They are very handy if you are either A- using gloves, or B-trying to get that tiny button selected at times!

I've used Chrome Remote Desktop and Splashtop on an Android phone to remotely access a laptop. However, I found the phone screen to be too small for my taste - perhaps using a larger Android tablet instead of a small phone would yield a better experience. Using a ChromeBook with Chrome Remote Desktop is a much more pleasant experience.

I use connect with either an Android 7" tablet or an iPad now and then, but typically not as my "main point of contact." Simply because the screen is relatively small and touch-screen actions are harder to execute.

I typically only do it to check in on a session that's running (connect, peek at an image and graphs, make sure nothing is going wrong), or to use the tablet as a display on the rare occasions I have to be out at the mount and need a display (such as a new guide scope, having to focus it).

I have RDP-ed to Windows servers using my Acer 10" and Samsung 8" tablets and it works, but there's no doubt a larger screen is far better. As a stop-gap measure it's handy but I personally wouldn't consider it a viable full time solution.

For example, my mega tablet remote runs my SHIELD Android TV, Playbulb Color light and speaker, Xbox One, SmartChef Wifi-enabled smoker, D-Link Wi-Fi security camera and all of the other devices I have all over my home. I'm so glad I have a place for all of those apps, so they're not clogging up my phone.

If you have a hub like SmartThings, WigWag Relay or Logitech Harmony Home Hub, then setting up your universal remote will be easily, since you only need one app. Still, you may want to install each device's dedicated app to have access to granular or app-specific settings as needed.

Now that your apps are streamlined, let's make the tablet even easier to use. When you grab your remote, you want it to be easy to access your app controls, so the lock screen on your tablet needs to go.

Most tablets also have more than one home screen. Chances are you don't have enough apps to fill up more than one screen, so let's get rid of the extra screens to streamline your remote. This step is even easier than removing the lock screen. Simply go to your home screen, press your finger to the screen and wait for the screen options to pop up. Swipe to your unused screen and drag it to the trashcan or tap on remove.

Another way to simplify and customize your home screen is by using a third-party launcher app like Nova Launcher or Apex Launcher. With these types of apps you can customize your icons and folders to make searching for just the app you need intuitive to the way you search for things. So, say the device's launch icon on your tablet's home screen doesn't make any sense to you or you would like an icon that's easier to spot, these launchers can help you customize the icon to your liking.

For added usability, be sure to enable your tablet's voice command capability so that you can just tell your remote what to launch. Now, not all apps can be controlled with voice commands, but all apps can be opened with voice.

If your universal tablet remote is an iPad and you have HomeKit-compatible devices, you can use Siri to open apps, turn on or dim your lights and much more. Another option would be Google OnHub for android devices. It acts as a router that connects all of your devices. With simple commands, OnHub will launch your apps and allow you to run your devices. Here are a bunch of other voice-activated smart home systems like HomeKit and OnHub.

Another way to improve your remote is by adding gesture commands. What are gesture commands? It's like when you tap on your phone's screen to wake it up from sleep mode. A gesture command is using movement from your hand to elicit a certain response from your tablet.

However, in case there is any software or hardware issues, we would like to be able to "remote into" (Bomgar, etc.) the surface tablet, and be able to diagnose the issues, and put it back in kiosk mode when we are done. Also, we may need to do regular maintenance like running Windows security updates...Is there any way we can manage this remotely? Any advice?

One of the best ways to remotely control an android tablet is through your PC with your mouse and keyboard. When you remote control Android tablet from Windows, you will also be able to play games on your Android tablet using your computer. It can be done easily with the use of remote control software.

The app comes with a free version that will allow you to use its remote control capability for up to 200 MB of remote data per month. Only 2 Android devices at maximum. If this is not enough for you, their premium version comes cheap at $2.5 per month.

For USD 12 per month, you can use this software on three of your devices with one license. In addition, the software comes with a remote access feature, two-factor authentication, and granular access management, among other features. ff782bc1db
