Why I Want To: I've been trying to get root access or flash a custom recovery on another phone I recently got. Its a UMX Model U693CL phone provided through assurance wireless (Obama-Phone). I've done almost all the troubleshooting and researching within my skill set to figure this out. After no luck with calling the company to find out how/where to download the firmware and finding nothing available on the internet, I've hit a dead end.

Called Assurance Wireless asking for stock firmware downloads or where to get them...no help. Despite this phone being shipped with bootloader unlocked...they seem very eager to prevent the end-user from utilizing the feature.

I did read online about using recovery software on a PC to extract firmware... However the programs mentioned seem to have a high affinity for malicious clones and/or seem too outdated. The most common ones mentioned are "QPST" or some sort of "Qualcomm Recovery Software" After having to restore my laptop multiple times from getting viruses for downloading/installing a few of those programs I switched my approach.

Maybe I'm complicating this and overthinking...is there software already that allows me to extract the stock firmware via USB on a PC? Outside of the Qualcomm programs I mentioned, I'm not familiar with any software that's universal. Unfortunately this phone has little support from my research...

In short what you are trying to do is not possible. Even if you were able to capture an OTA update, you are not getting the entire firmware and you certainly won't be able to get what you need which is boot and recovery partition data. This might be achievable on the new A/B partitioning where OTA updates are downloaded to an "empty" partition but I haven't personally tested this.

QPST (Qualcomm Product Support Tool) is legitimate if you download from qpsttool.com. Within QPST is QFIL and its QFIL that is used to flash firmware unto Qualcomm devices. This phone is treble compatible so a stock GSI rom should work to get recovery.img and boot.img. However, to get TWRP recovery you'll need to port in a version from a similar device using the same or similar specs: SoC=MSM8937 | CPU=QM215 | GPU=Adreno 308. Currently, there is no official nor unofficial twrp recoveries available.

To get GSI firmware [or any other firmware] unto this phone you'll use QFIL within QPST. Plug in the correct EDL programmer (likely prog_emmc_firehose_8937_lite.mbn or prog_emmc_firehose 8937_alc.mbn) and suitable firmware and that's pretty much it.

If you successfully flashed firmware unto the phone with custom recovery then you have root access, otherwise if you flashed firmware with stock recovery you need to use magisk manager to patch boot.img for root. With root you can start flashing diffent twrp recoveries that you ported in, and you'll use su commands in adb shell to do this.

O have been trying like crazy to find a small usb flash drive and locally here where i live i can not find one under 16 gb i bought one that is listed in the compatable list on the wd website but it seems still not to work i have also been looking for rollback firmware but the problem is i do not know for sure what firmware was on it before it was goven to me

Joey finally got it to recognize a flash drive if i boot the unit up it has the big red circle telling me to insert usb drive with firmware to recover your wd it reads the drive then the screen says warningyour wd was modified aftermarket and is not running official firmware that is not supported by western digital dont know where to go from here

Joey need some advice got this other gen 3 up and running this one boots right up but need some advice the firmware version is 1.14.09 should i update it and if so to which version and should i put the wdlxtv on this unit like my gen 2 i know that there were a lot of these units with the last firmware update and people were rolling it back would like to have the best firmware with the most options for this player

Joey i also want to make sure whatever firmware i use is the official firmware so i do not run into issues like the other one

Joey where do i find the official firmwares i have been doing some reading and most people say the newest one has issues and they rolled back to the one before the last update if i update it on the unit itself instead of loading it to a flash drive will it stay the official firmware

I understand i have been using kodi now for about 3 years and i have always followed the rules with it i currently run it on a amazon firestick but they say it runs faster on th pi3 because of the quad core processor. Thank you for all the info, i went ahead and did the update on the wd to the latest firmware and everything went very smooth and everything seems to be working pretty well gonna play with it for a little bit and see if any problems arise if they do i will do the rollback and see if it fixes things

Joey thank you so much got it installed tonight and up and running and everything is working perfectly i think i will play with both of them for a little bit then go back to the original firmware on both units or do you think they would sell better with the wdlxtv installed on them

I have a T95N Mini MX box on order, but doubt that the seller will be able to send me a link where i can download the stock firmware should I ever need it. Is there a way i can do a backup of the firmware to a USB Stick before i try out Librelec?

The good news is that usually there isn't much risk with upgrading your router's firmware if you do it correctly and follow all instructions provided by the manufacturer carefully. There still exists a possibility of user error when completing complex tasks so make sure you're confident about what you're doing before undertaking anything too complicated with respect to cybersecurity matters. Also remember that since updating your firmware is essentially revising its fundamental codebase, if anything goes wrong during the process then it could irreversibly damage the device itself or put vital information at risk due to compromised security protocols.

If the router's firmware update fails, it is important to take steps to determine why it failed. Retry the process a few times to ensure that it was not just an isolated incident. If you're still having trouble, consult your router's user guide or contact your manufacturer for additional support. Additionally, make sure you are using a reliable internet connection and that your router is up to date with the latest version of its firmware before attempting another update.

Router firmware is computer software, often stored in a writable memory chip on the router, which helps the router control traffic. It contains instructions that tell the router how to function properly and securely as well as determine who should be allowed access to what type of data from your network. 2351a5e196
