Noticed this morning that I can't seem to download using WiFi. So did what you said about clearing data or whatever. Then had to go to my account because it cleared everything, which I did not expect. Took several hours to download all my music again. NOT going there again. But it still says Go to settings... SO did what my son the computer software major says to do... RESTART YOUR PHONE. Works fine again.

Mining your own Spotify data is like accessing a musical window into your soul. What genre do you listen to the most? How obscure are your favorite artists? And, wait, you listened to "Alone" by Heart how many times!?

Spotify aims to make music special for everyone. Today, the company hosts more than 2 billion playlists and gives consumers access to more than 30 million songs. Users can search for music across any device by artist, album, genre, playlist or record label, while features like Discover Weekly suggest personalized playlists for millions of people around the world.

With a worldwide community of over 551 million monthly active listeners, including 220 million subscribers, Spotify provides a wide range of African and international artists with a library including over 82 million tracks. Orange customers can now enjoy this personalized and enriching musical experience by creating for instance their own playlists.

You may not always know their voices, but their music still moves us. As of 2020, the U.S. songwriter population had grown by over half a million from 2011 to 1.6 million and contributed to the creation of over 20 million American songs; the British songwriter population had grown by 115% since 2009 to 140,000. We anticipate that these numbers have only increased since 2020. And over the past two years, Spotify has paid out over $3 billion in publishing royalties to publishers, performance rights organizations, and collecting societies, which represent songwriters.

Streaming has been a catalyst for immense growth in emerging music markets. In 2022, 35% of artists who generated more than $10,000 on Spotify came from countries outside the top ten music markets, and the 10,000 artists who generated at least $100,000 on Spotify in 2022 hail from over 100 countries.

The topic of unveiling AI-driven recommender systems and providing music professionals with the resources and tools they need to understand and manage these algorithms will be a big focus for Music Tomorrow throughout 2022. A few weeks back, we kicked off the year with an article covering the ins and outs of the famed TikTok "For You" algorithm. This time around, we'll dive deeper into the topic with a breakdown of Spotify's recommender system (which can be, to an extent, extrapolated to other DSP recommendation engines).

Now, we finally arrived at the point where the combination of collaborative and content-based approaches allows Spotify's recommender system to develop a holistic representation of the track. At this point, the track profile is further enriched by combining the outputs of several independent algorithms to generate higher-level vectors (think of these as mood, genre, style tags, etc.). In addition, to deal with the cold start problem when processing freshly uploaded releases that don't have enough NLP/playlist data behind them, some of these properties are also extrapolated to develop overarching artist algorithmic profiles.

From the music industry perspective, it is possible to use that knowledge to optimize the artist's profile within that recommender system. A meaningful, well-educated algorithmic strategy can maximize your chances of making it onto algorithmic playlists and help ensure that the engine serves your music to the right audiences, amplifying discovery and turning casual listeners into fans.

How would we go about it? We're currently hard at work building a way for artists and their teams to understand and optimize their algorithmic profiles: think of it as something of an SEO tool for streaming services. In March 2017, Spotify acquired Sonalytic, an audio detection startup, for an undisclosed amount of money. Spotify stated that Sonalytic would be used to improve the company's personalized playlists, better match songs with compositions, and improve the company's publishing data system.[73] Later that month, Spotify also acquired MightyTV, an app connected to television streaming services, including Netflix and HBO Go, that recommends content to users. Spotify intended to use MightyTV to improve its advertising efforts on the free tier of service.[74] In April 2017, they acquired Mediachain, a blockchain startup that had been developing a decentralized database system for managing attribution, and other metadata for media.[75][76] This was followed in May 2017 with the acquisition of artificial intelligence startup Niland, which uses technology to improve personalisation and recommendation features for users.[77][78] In November 2017, Spotify acquired Soundtrap, an online music studio startup.[79][80]

In January 2015, Sony announced PlayStation Music, a new music service with Spotify as its exclusive partner. PlayStation Music incorporates the Spotify service into Sony's PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 gaming consoles, and Sony Xperia mobile devices. The service launched on 30 March 2015.[112] In March 2017, Spotify announced a partnership with the South by Southwest (SXSW) conference for 2017, presenting specific content in special playlists through an SXSW hub in Spotify's apps. The integration also enabled Spotify within the SXSW GO app to help users discover and explore artists performing at the conference. Two more partnerships were announced in March; one with WNYC Studios, and one with Waze. The WNYC Studios partnership brought various podcasts from WNYC to Spotify, including Note To Self, On the Media and Here's the Thing.
