6lack signed a record deal with Flo Rida's International Music Group and Strong Arm Records in July 2011. He left Valdosta State University once he signed, and spent the next few years learning about the industry. 6lack spent five years with the label, putting music out on his SoundCloud account. 6lack had little financial security and spent most of his time sleeping in the studio or outside on the street after moving to Miami, Florida to work on music with the record label.[11] 6lack eventually left his label due to issues over artistic and creative license and management.[12] In 2015, 6lack announced that he had joined the musical collective Spillage Village after living with the members of EarthGang, and appeared on four tracks of Spillage Village EP called Bears Like This Too in 2015.[13]

Once he left the label, he signed with Love Renaissance and Interscope Records.[14] In November 2016, Rolling Stone included 6lack in their list of "10 New Artists You Need to Know".[3] He then went on to release his debut studio album, Free 6lack, which peaked at number 34 on the Billboard 200 chart.[15] The album's single "Prblms" peaked at number 73 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became his first platinum record.[16] In April 2017, he joined Canadian singer The Weeknd as opening act for his Legend of the Fall tour in North America.

In April 2018, he released the single "OTW" with Khalid and Ty Dolla Sign, which has reached at number 57 on the Billboard Hot 100.[17] "OTW" became 6lack's highest peaking song on the Hot 100.[17] The first single for his sophomore album, "Switch", was released on June 22, 2018, with a music video released on July 16.[18] "Nonchalant" was released as the album's second single on August 17, with its accompanying music video.[19][20] On September 14, 2018, 6lack released his second studio album, East Atlanta Love Letter, featuring guest appearances from Future, J. Cole, Offset, and Khalid. The album's release was preceded by the singles "Switch" and "Nonchalant."[21] In October 2018, 6lack started a tour for the promotion of the album, with opening acts THEY., Tierra Whack, Boogie, Deante' Hitchcock, Summer Walker, and Ari Lennox.[22][23] 6lack later featured on several other songs, such as "Waves" by Normani.[24] and "Crowded Room" by Selena Gomez, in 2019 and early 2020, respectively.[25] In May 2020, 6lack released the track "ATL Freestyle". A few weeks later, on June 24, 2020, 6lack celebrated his birthday with the release of the single "Float". He also announced his EP 6pc Hot, which was released on June 26 and included the Lil Baby-assisted single, "Know My Rights". He also launched his own hot sauce brand 600 Degrees Original.[26]6lack appeared on two tracks from Spillage Village's Spilligion album, released in September 2020.[27] During 2020, he collaborated with British virtual band Gorillaz and singer-songwriter Elton John on the track "The Pink Phantom", for the band's seventh studio album, Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez.[citation needed]

In 2021, he released "Calling My Phone" with Bronx rapper Lil Tjay.[28] In 2022, he was featured on Canadian singer-songwriter Jessie Reyez's album Yessie, in her song "Forever", and its accompanying music video.[29]

6lack's music focuses or is based on personal and business relationships frequently, especially the topic of heartbreak.[30] 6lack has said that his songwriting is influenced mainly by his personal experiences and failed relationships.[31] Billboard magazine has described 6lack's music as "moody hip hop" that "spotlights vulnerability and honesty in a way the emoji generation can understand."[12] 6lack has cited Sade, T-Pain, The-Dream, and Usher as his influences.[32]

It's the biggest weight off my shoulders. I feel a million times lighter than I felt last year. It feels good to have another like child that I get to drop off into the world and watch it grow, and to take it on tour and see how it affects people. The last two tours I couldn't leave the shows feeling like I had done a lot for myself. I felt like I was doing a lot for other people. And those moods, those songs, and those feelings didn't bring me to a place of peace. And that's not to say that, things will always be amazing from here on out. But I'm aware of the work it takes to make it as amazing as I want it to be.

LANY's exploration of ballad love songs delves into themes of heartbreak and loss, with Paul viewing vulnerability as a powerful means to help people feel less alone. Despite his lowkey approach, Paul graciously accepts photos and greetings from fans, recognizing them as genuine expressions of appreciation for his music.

As its name suggests, Free 6lack also includes a strong claim for freedom born from having been burned by the music industry and its fallacious promises. After giving up his university studies for good, he signed a contract that took him to Miami, where his dreams turned into a nightmare. His producers wanted him to make highly formatted hits, mass-produced according to tried-and-tested formulae. Contractually unable to free himself from his obligations, he set himself on a path of passive resistance, receiving no money and even sometimes sleeping rough.

In this song 6LACK is deciding whether he should stay with his girlfriend or if he should leave her now that he is rich and famous and he can get about any girl he wants. This song fits 6LACK perfectly from the lyrics down to the beat. It sounds like many of the songs that have made him such a big name in the music industry.

J. Cole is one of the music industries most liked rappers, so when 6LACK brought him on a song it did not come as much of a surprise. In this song 6LACK is talking about one of his relationships that crashed and burned while J. Cole raps about his wife. This song is good because it catches both sides of the relationship spectrum. It captures the bad relationships that fail and also the good relationships that end in marriage and having a very happy couple.

In this song featuring Migos member Offset, 6LACK shows a rap side that before had never been seen. This song starts off with 6LACK and Offset switching back and forth rapping before it enters the chorus. The chorus on this song is catchy and gets stuck in the head easily. This song shows that 6LACK is not just a moody R&B singer, but that he can also produce a more trap style song.

"Stan" by 6LACK is a heartfelt song that delves into the depth of love and devotion. The song portrays the idea of being a "stan," which is a term often used to describe an extremely dedicated and loyal fan. However, in this context, it takes on a deeper meaning.

In the verses, the speaker expresses their commitment to their partner, emphasizing their willingness to go the extra mile to make them happy. The lyrics suggest that the speaker is dedicated to creating something extraordinary for their loved one, symbolized by writing their "best song" and being up all night for them. The mention of "never need[ing] no help" implies self-reliance and a determination to make their love thrive.

Throughout the song, the speaker expresses gratitude for finding their partner, mentioning that they feel like they were always chasing them, but it was worth it. The reference to Alzheimer's alludes to memories and the fear of losing them. The speaker wants to be an everlasting presence in their partner's life and doesn't need reminders to remind them of their love.

Normani and 6LACK dropped their collaborative single "Waves" in November, and the song's music video arrived on Tuesday. It takes place on the surface of a lonely planet full of psychedelic vibes. Watch it above or on YouTube.

Normani sang 6LACK's praises to Zane Lowe when the song debuted last year. "I admire [6LACK] as an artist," she said. "He's an amazing lyricist, and I feel like he took the record to a whole other level. I already love the record as is, but he totally exceeded any expectation I even had, which was pretty high, because I admire him as an artist."

In October, Normani and Calvin Harris shared the two-song EP Normani X Calvin Harris. The Sam SMith collab "Dancing With A Stranger" came in January. She'll join Ariana Grande this year for her Sweetener North America tour.

The concert was amazing! It started off with 2 awesome openers, Sy Ari Da Kid and Sabrina Claudio, which got the whole crowd hyped and feelin their music. As well as 6lack's brother, the DJ, which did an awesome job getting the crowd fired up and hyping us up. 6lack's music was truly so chill to vibe with, I especially loved when he would take a pause from the songs and just talk about his music from the heart, proving how real of an artist he is. Overall, I 100% recommend ya'll going, next time he comes down to Santa Ana i'm going again for sure! 17dc91bb1f
