Download Smart Xerox

We have a 7830 WorkCentre that is failing to print and displaying an error (on the PC) "A smart card service is required to print." This occurs in Word, Adobe, etc. and doesn't appear to be program specific. I re-installed the driver yesterday (They had PS but I switched to PCL-6), and everything began working fine until today when we are getting the same error. Accounting is not enabled on the device at all, nor does it even appear to be an option in the Advanced properties setting of the driver (nor would it have been enabled), so I'm at a loss for why we are getting this error.

*Important Message* S3 users should now use the 'Xerox' option to login to SMART Centre. If you do not have a Xerox email address, your username would be your S3 ID followed by @xerox.com (for example: 54321@xerox.com). On the screens that follow, use your normal S3 password to login.

This seems to be caused by a recent HP update pushed that effects all local printers (Including xerox printers) Try this following fix I found online as a temporary workaround until an update is released:

look for the thread in this forum titled "Xerox SmartStart 1.7.71.0 won't open". there's a couple more ideas there and a xerox rep has actually replied to 1 person. there are a lot of people having problems getting "SmartStart" to run on computers [at my own company, it would install on only half of our computers]. i actually managed to submit a trouble ticket with Xerox software dept & will share the result in the other thread.
