I am using Windows' 10 new virtual desktop feature (which is neat).

Now, I have Skype running on the virtual desktop 1 and switch over to virtual desktop 2. Whenever I get a new message and try to open it, I get taken back to virtual desktop 1.

Running another instance of Skype on desktop 2 does not work either (I get taken back to desktop 1 again).

Is there any way I can have Skype running on multiple virtual desktop at once?

There is currently no native support in Windows 10 to pin windows to multiple desktops. When the anniversary update comes around (I believe it's August 2nd), this will be possible. You could update to an insider preview build if you want it now. It's available from build 14316.

do we need to install teams individually for every user, as i installed teams on my session-host but when my other user logs in into his/her desktop , teams is not visible. I am using WVD environment and i have one session host in my environment@mrktos

However, when Microsoft pushed the Windows 10 upgrades, I got many requests for help. In some cases Firefox and Thunderbird had been uninstalled without warning during the upgrade, and the settings were removed, leading to lost emails, so I had to run testdisk to recover them. I think Windows even generated a little report of uninstalled apps and put on the desktop.

I'm new to Ubuntu. I use Skype and often the main window just disappears from my desktop. The Skype instance itself is still running in the background. I know this because I can see its notifications on the bottom right side of the screen.

How do I refocus/bring to the foreground the existing Skype instance? In Windows, you can restore running instances through the taskbar. I've tried cycling through open windows, but the running instance window is no where to be seen.

It would help to know what version of Ubuntu you are using but Skype has support for the system tray in the menu bar so you might see there a small skype icon. Click on that one and it will show you a huge menu with the option "Activate" which is "Open" in Skype language.

The easiest way to do this is to use dconf-editor from the dconf-tools package. Use the tool to browse to desktop...unity...panel and change systray-whitelist parameter to ['all'] . This will allow all icons to show. Alternatively, you could add 'skype' to the list.

Skype (/skap/) is a proprietary telecommunications application operated by Skype Technologies, a division of Microsoft, best known for VoIP-based videotelephony, videoconferencing and voice calls. It also has instant messaging, file transfer, debit-based calls to landline and mobile telephones (over traditional telephone networks), and other features. Skype is available on various desktop, mobile, and video game console platforms.

On 10 May 2011, Microsoft Corporation acquired Skype Communications, S. r.l for US$8.5 billion.[26] The company was incorporated as a division of Microsoft, which acquired all its technologies with the purchase. The acquisition was completed on 13 October 2011.[26][27] Shortly after the acquisition, Microsoft began integrating the Skype service with its own products. Along with taking over the development of existing Skype desktop and mobile apps, the company developed a dedicated client app for its then-newly released, touch-focused Windows 8 and Windows RT operating systems. They were made available from Windows Store when the then-new OS launched on 26 October 2012. The following year, it became the default messaging app for Windows 8.1, replacing the Windows 8 Messaging app at the time, and became pre-installed software on every device that came with or upgraded to 8.1.[28]

Multiple different versions of Skype have been released for Windows since its conception. The original line of Skype applications continued from versions 1.0 through 4.0. It has offered a desktop-only program since 2003. Later, a mobile version was created for Windows Phones.

In 2012, Skype introduced a new version for Windows 8 similar to the Windows Phone version.[94] On 7 July 2015 Skype modified the application to direct Windows users to download the desktop version, but it was set to continue working on Windows RT until October 2016.[95] In November 2015, Skype introduced three new applications, called Messaging, Skype Video, and Phone, intended to provide an integrated Skype experience on Windows 10.[96][97] On 24 March 2016, Skype announced the integrated applications did not satisfy most users' needs and announced that they and the desktop client would eventually be replaced with a new UWP application,[98] which was released as a preview version for the Windows 10 Anniversary Update and dubbed as the stable version with the release of the Windows 10 Creators Update.

As of February 2012, Skype provides support through their web support portal, support community, @skypesupport on Twitter, and Skype Facebook page. Direct contact via email and live chat is available through their web support portal. Chat Support is a premium feature available to Skype Premium and some other paid users.

Any users who try to access the modern version of Skype on PCs from July 7 forward will be automatically directed to download the desktop version. Users already using Skype for Windows desktop won't need to do anything.

Interestingly, it looks like video calling between the Apple and Android Skype consumer mobile clients and Skype for Business desktop client on windows (MSI and Click to Run) now works.

Microsoft has released a new version of Skype for desktop, and this one looks and feels just like the mobile version of Skype. The only catch is that Microsoft is forcing everyone to upgrade to Skype 8.0 as all previous versions are set to stop working within weeks.

The new version of Skype for desktop, Skype 8.0, is designed to replace Skype 7.0 (also known as Skype Classic). Microsoft is recommending everyone upgrades at their earliest convenience, as, after September 1, 2018, only Skype 8.0 will function.

Microsoft is doing the right thing in trying to make sure Skype users enjoy the same experience across multiple platforms. However, forcing people to upgrade to the latest version of the desktop within the next few weeks is bound to annoy some people.

Microsoft offers two versions of Skype for Windows 10: a traditional desktop app and a Store app. Both are a little different, but for most people, the Store app works fine. Plus, it updates automatically through the Microsoft Store, which helps protect it from security flaws.

Back in 2018, a security researcher discovered a flaw in the desktop version of Skype that could allow malicious actors to abuse Skype's update mechanism and take over your computer. Microsoft resolved the issue, but it illustrates that Skype and other video tools aren't bulletproof.

Overall, if you have lots of friends who aren't Apple users, this is a great choice for your primary messenger. The only potential issue with Hangouts is that it doesn't offer an official desktop app. You'll need to use the Hangouts Chrome extension if you don't want to visit the main webpage.

If you don't like this, try using an alternative messenger client like Franz, which lets you access Hangouts and other web services all from one window. YakYak is another good third-party desktop client for Hangouts.

The HDX RealTime Media Engine is a plug-in to the Citrix Receiver to support clear, crisp high-definition audio-video calls, particularly with Microsoft Skype for Business. Users can seamlessly participate in audio-video or audio-only calls to and from other HDX RealTime Media Engine users, native Skype for Business and Lync client users, and other standards-based desktop video and conference room systems. The HDX RealTime Media Engine is available for Windows, Mac and Linux.

As soon as I start Skype for Business 2019 client through a full desktop session on my VDA, the RTConnector cycles from "Connecting" to "Connected", then about 5 seconds later to "Disconnected"... then "Connecting", then "Connected" again for about 5 seconds... then back to "Disconnected". Over and over and over and over. It will continue to cycle like this as long as the Skype client is running.

Citrix delivers optimization for desktop-based Microsoft Teams using Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops and Citrix Workspace app. By default, we bundle all the necessary components into the Citrix Workspace app and the Virtual Delivery Agent (VDA).

Microsoft Teams relies on video-based screen sharing (VBSS), effectively encoding the desktop being shared with video codecs like H264 and creating a high-definition stream. With HDX optimization, incoming screen sharing is treated as a video stream.

I had the option that when I clicked on a phone number in Evernote it automatically made the call through Skype. Now I no longer have the option and in the list of apps to choose from when click on phone no longer appears skype. I have skype installed and online its logged in. Not sure what I have done and how to get it back.

Microsoft starts killing Skype Classic today, but two versions of Skype remain. Windows 10 includes a "Store App" version of Skype, which has fewer features than Skype for desktop, available for download from Microsoft's website.

The normal "Get Skype for Windows 10" option downloads the Store version of Skype 8. To get the desktop version of Skype 8, you have to click the down arrow next to the download button and select "Get Skype for Windows" beneath the various Linux download options. ff782bc1db
