The ceasefire was extended multiple times over the past week as Hamas released dozens of Israelis and dual-national citizens. The ceasefire extensions raised the possibility that both sides would refrain from resuming the deadliest fighting in the region in years.

The weeklong cease-fire also allowed some desperately needed humanitarian aid into Gaza, where the Health Ministry says 13,300 people have been killed by Israeli airstrikes and thousands more are homeless after their homes were destroyed.

The temporary cease-fire, which began a week ago, came after weeks of heavy bombardment by Israeli air and ground forces in response to an Oct. 7 Hamas attack on southern Israel that killed 1,200 people, Israel says. Some 240 hostages, including Israelis and a number of foreign workers, were also seized from communities bordering Gaza.

"Hamas turns civilian sites into military targets while using civilians and civilian facilities as a human shield," the military said, issuing what it said was an interactive evacuation map for residents that it says shows safe evacuation areas. However, many Gaza residents have been without electricity or an internet connection for weeks and the map is difficult to navigate on a cell phone.

Regarding the possibility of WHITESNAKE resuming its farewell tour in the near future, Coverdale said: "I'm working now on a torn rotator cuff. So literally this year I gave my fantastic band the year off, 'cause I didn't know what was gonna go on. I could make any particular commitments. Nowadays [you need] six months to set up a tour. So I've got recording to do. We've got projects for the next three to five years. I'm hoping to get the band in, when they're free. I'm being approached a great deal with [Las] Vegas residencies. I'd love to get to Japan and South America. Really it's gonna depend on health and people's availability."

Last month, Coverdale told "Rock Of Nations With Dave Kinchen And Shane McEachern" regarding the possibility of WHITESNAKE resuming its farewell tour in 2024: "It's not really a professional decision. It's literally a health decision. 006ab0faaa
