If i need to model an intersection, what I will do is model that as a 3d object and place it (or overlay it) into the terrain and adjust its levels manually. Then I will tie my road centrelines into that intersection (i.e. i will use the intersection as a sort of starting point).

If you need to adjust Cut-to-fill or earthworks batters and retaining walls, then I suggest using a much simpler road first, then making it more detailed by editing the Profile.

I'm a prospective Tesla Model Y owner. I drive down dirt roads for hiking around a half dozen times per year. I currently drive a Honda Civic and I make due with that even if I have to baby it when I'm driving on dirt. Some questions I have from owners that have driven down a dirt road with their Long Range Model Y.

The Limited grade models add the JBL Audio package to the standard equipment roster. This system provides an in-vehicle concert experience with an 800-watt amplifier playing through 11 speakers across 8 channels. Among highlights are A-pillar horn tweeters and a ported subwoofer. JBL system remains optional for other RAV4 model grades (XLE Premium, Adventure Grade, TRD Off-Road and XSE Hybrid).

For maximum capability and off-road prowess, Adventure and TRD Off-Road models come standard with Dynamic Torque Vectoring All-Wheel Drive with Rear Driveline Disconnect. In addition to directing up to 50 percent of engine torque to the rear wheels, this system can also direct more torque to the left or right rear wheel to enhance on- or off-pavement handling. The Limited model is offered in both Front-Wheel Drive as well as an optional Dynamic Torque Vectoring All-Wheel Drive with Rear Driveline Disconnect.

In any RAV4 Hybrid, the Toyota Hybrid System II (THS II) works in sync with the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Dynamic Force Engine to make the Hybrid models performance and efficiency leaders of the RAV4 family, with an EPA-estimated 41/38/40 MPG. It is truly the no-compromise compact SUV.

The RAV4 XSE Hybrid takes the mantle as the top of the RAV4 lineup, with the most striking design. Its sport-tuned suspension, with tauter springs and shock absorbers, also yields the sportiest on-road handling in the RAV4 family.

Building on the 8.6-inch ground clearance of the RAV4 Adventure, the TRD Off-Road goes above and beyond with suspension, wheels and tires engineered specifically for rugged trail driving. Dynamic Torque Vectoring All-Wheel Drive with Driveline Disconnect is standard and supported by and a full complement of off-road handling technologies. To take more adventure equipment along, such as personal watercraft, dirt bikes or a small enclosed trailer, the RAV4 TRD Off-Road is rated to tow a trailer up to 3,500 pounds.

Using standard Multi-Terrain Select, the RAV4 TRD Off-Road driver can maximize traction by matching the drive mode to the conditions: Mud & Sand for beach driving, Rock & Dirt for trails, and Snow for wintery conditions. The RAV4 TRD Off-Road is in addition equipped with Hill Start Assist Control (HAC), Trailer Sway Control (TSC), and Downhill Assist Control (DAC) for on-road and off-road performance and safety. The Multi-Information Display (MID) shows torque allocation and slip-control data.

Last month I completed a road trip over 3 days in my 2020 Model 3 Long Range AWD. The trip was almost all highway, with temperatures ranging from ~10F to ~40F. I was traveling for work so the route was a bit different than a typically trip for me.

Road Model Tip: Install the app before your teen starts driving so they can monitor your driving before they hit the road (see pro-tip above). This also lessens their resistance to the app when they begin to drive themselves.

I used 1mm black craft foam on code 100 track. You can go the full width of the rails and not interfere with the flanges, as long as they aren't pizza cutters. The stuff at Michael's is 2mm (Hobby Lobby's is even thicker), which is fine for roads without track, but for street trackage you'll need to order some 1mm. An eBay seller named Wandy-Foam sells it.

The white foam underneath is Readiboard from the Dollar Tree store. While you're there, get some LA's Awesome spray cleaner. Spray it all over the board, wait a minute, and then peel off the paper layers. Do both sides or it may warp. You'll be left with a foam sheet that's a few millimeters thick. I sanded the white foam to give the road a crown. I also sanded in some dips and ruts, though they don't show up very well in the photos. They need to be exaggerated.

After the paint is dry, you can create patches and large cracks by tearing the craft foam. If you want fairly straight lines, score the underside of the foam with an X-Acto before tearing it. If you want more irregular lines then don't bother scoring first. To darken the patches I just ran them under the faucet for a minute and rubbed them with my finger to remove paint. Some patches are lighter than the road, so mix up a batch of light gray and dab some onto the patch.

For the white lines, I didn't want to use decals or chart tape because those would be too perfect for an old worn road. I used masking tape to mask off the lines. I reduced the stickiness of the tape by pressing it to the floor and pulling it up a few times. Even after doing this it took up a little bit of paint which really didn't look that bad. It gave some random wear to the pavement. If you don't want the tape to pull up any paint you should probably seal the foam with clear flat spray paint first.

No, craft foam is very soft and flexible. You could tie a strip of it into a knot. If you have a Michael's or Hobby Lobby near you, they both carry it, but it's a little too thick for code 100 rail. If you're just doing roads with no track, than theirs should work fine. I've never found 1mm locally. You might get lucky if you have a good art supply store nearby.

As for the lighter patches... When we lived in Milwaukee, the city came along one year and put something similar to asphalt sealer on top of the road -- it had a somewhat grainier texture than normal sealer, but was also a lot darker than normal fading asphalt -- so it could be in that lighter patch photo that most of the road was re-sealed, while the patch was applied after the last sealing -- and it faded for a year or three, much faster than the rest of the road.

I started off with the body. I like to do a bunch of test-fitting and fettling right off the bat here so I don't run into any surprises down the road. I ditched the friction-fit door closure (basically a tab that comes off the soft vinyl interior door panel and pushes against the door jamb) and went with three neodymium magnets to help hold the doors closed. The doors needed attention to address some nasty gaps... I needed to do this on the Tamiya 1/12 240Z a few years back as well. Thin styrene square stock filled the gaps and I sanded the edges down to get an even door gap all the way around.

Thanks for sharing this. It looks great as a road version. Stunning in yellow! A road version was something I had contemplated doing, but figured that sourcing treaded 1/12 tyres would be tricky. Good to know they were included in your kit though. I wonder if Tamiya are including those treaded tyres with the latest release of this kit.
