For IDOT emergency road closures caused by unplanned events, such as vehicle and weather related incidents, that can close roadways and affect day to day travel, please view the Emergency Road Closure page.

Driving conditions can change very quickly depending on weather, roadway, and traffic challenges, and can cause inconvenience and safety hazards for motorists. With mobility, convenience, and safety in mind, IDOT makes it a priority to consistently update our motorists on planned lane changes or closures due to road construction projects and other planned and unplanned events.

Prevention of obesity and therapeutic weight loss interventions have provided only limited long term success. Therefore there is an urgent need to develop novel pharmacological treatment strategies, which target mechanisms underlying positive energy balance, excessive fat accumulation and adverse fat distribution. Adipokines may have potential for future pharmacological treatment strategies of obesity and metabolic diseases, because they are involved in the regulation of appetite and satiety, energy expenditure, endothelial function, blood pressure, insulin sensitivity, adipogenesis, fat distribution and insulin secretion and others. There are important road blocks on the way from an adipokine candidate to the clinical use a therapeutic compound. Such road blocks include an incomplete understanding of the mechanism of action, resistance to a specific adipokine, side effects of the adipokine and others. This review focuses on the potential of selected adipokines as therapeutic tools or targets and discusses important road blocks, which currently prevent their clinical use.

The July Fourth Concert will be followed by a large, public firework display over the iconic Benjamin Franklin Parkway courtesy of Wawa beginning at 9:45 p.m. The official fireworks soundtrack was curated by DJ Ghost and will air on Q102FM. The Maui Police Department, in cooperation with the County of Maui ITS Division, is providing road closure notifications via Email and SMS. Our purpose is to provide the general public, media, and our visitor industry - especially its security divisions - with the most up-to-the-minute information on road closures or hazards so that all are aware of potential delays, hazards or traffic problems that may delay or deter transit plans.

Notifications

Road Closure Notifications are intended for unplanned closures of major roadways by the Maui Police Department; where safe, alternate routes are available to be used. **County of Maui road construction closures and slow-downs are usually not listed.**

Emergency Road Closure Notifications are intended for emergency closures of major roadways by the Maui Police Department; where safe, alternate routes are not available, or precautions are necessary to ensure public safety.

Road closure notifications will allow you to better plan your travel on Maui in the event of a road closure or restriction. By making this information available, we hope to keep our residents and visitors apprised of road closures so they can plan their travel accordingly.

Due to increased security in the Parkway area, parking and traffic regulations will be strictly enforced. Street closures will be implemented on a rolling basis and will be lifted as runners go by and roads are serviced. City officials urge motorists to refrain from double-parking, which creates congestion, limits traffic flow, and is illegal.

A rolling roadblock is a method of temporary traffic control that is used to slow or stop traffic as a means of temporarily removing traffic from a roadway. The rolling roadblock closes all lanes of traffic by using pacing vehicles to create a gap so that construction activities can be performed. Rolling roadblocks are used for short term work where long term road closures using temporary traffic control devices (TTCD) are not needed. Activities that may warrant the use of a rolling roadblock include, but are not limited to:

A rolling roadblock requires one blocking/pacing vehicle per lane of traffic, a clearing vehicle, and an advance warning vehicle. The following describes the functions of the vehicles used to control a rolling roadblock.

Rolling roadblocks are used for short term work on high-volume/high-speed urban and rural freeways and other multi-lane access controlled facilities where traffic would normally flow unimpeded in the absence of other traffic control devices. A rolling roadblock typically slows traffic while the work is being done, which increases safety and reduces the number of crashes caused by roadway construction activities by allowing traffic to continue moving at a reduced speed rather than coming to a complete stop.

Rolling roadblocks may be used on other roadways, but in most cases other traffic control techniques may be more appropriate. Roadways such as major arterials or state roads usually have signalized or stop-controlled intersections and, as such, occasional stops or delays are not uncommon. Also, detouring traffic can be an option for these locations.

A Sample Rolling Roadblock Checklist has been included on the next page to provide guidance for states to use as a starting point in developing their own checklist. Each state or agency has unique requirements which should be included on the checklist to ensure that the planning and execution of a rolling roadblock is successful. 2351a5e196
