Our bell tent canvas is a hefty 390 gsm, or 11.5 oz per square meters. This thickness not only creates a better insulating property but it also is take more effort to become damaged.
Wall support system. We are the only company that has an integrated sidewall support system. Walls that can roll-up. Behind the canvas walls is a secondary mesh wall that is connected to the floor of our bell tent. Either wall can be unzipped from the tent floor and rolled up. Rolling up the canvas wall reveals the mesh wall that greatly improves airflow and circulation on warm days. You can also roll up the mesh wall too, letting in all of nature - creating a "floating bell tent."
Wood stove compatible. The canvas is treated for fire retardancy and comes with a pre-cut stove jack hole and cover on the ceiling so you can add a wood stove to your bell tent to keep cozy. Feel free to add more stove jacks if necessary.

To extend the life of your tent we highly suggest a fly cover and getting your tent off the ground (via a platform) and exposing the tent to a breeze and sunlight.

A couple of inches of snow on the canvas can add 2,000 pounds of weight to the center pole if left sitting. Keeping a wood stove heating up the tent during snowfall will encourage the snow to melt off. Left unattended, snow can cause the center pole to collapse.

I bought this tent in January of 2022 for 2 to 4 day trips. I also own one of the 1320 wall tents. I love the wall tent but it is a chore to put up and take down. This tent took me about an hour the to set up the first time and about 40 minutes to take down. I took it camping in February and that time set up took about 30 minutes and 30 or less to take down. I stayed in it in 20 degree weather and it worked great. There was plenty of room for three grown men and our stuff. I would recommend this tent to others looking for a well made multi season tent that is easy to set up and take down. It is a little pricey but I am glad to have it.

got the 16 foot Yukon, and it is perfect for turkey season right now and great for deer hunts this fall and winter. More than enough room for five cots, stove and gear. Very happy with my purchase. The set up is a breeze. The tent is sturdy and I can spend my time enjoying camping in the outdoors and hunting. So glad I found the Elk Mountain web site.

First, the tent itself. There are a couple of small companies in the U.S. that make bell tents. However, none that we looked at came with a hole for a chimney pipe, and we had our hearts set on buying a wood-burning stove for the tent (which we finally did for Christmas 2017). These are identical to the ones we bought from a shop in Chicago a couple of years ago. They normally live in our backyard, but fold right up and slip into the car. They spent time both inside and outside the bell tent. I love them.

A version of the bell tent, the sibley tent was invented by Henry Hopkins Sibley, who had studied the Native American tipi during the expeditions he carried out in the American Old West. He patented his tent design in 1858.
The bell tent is characteristically differentiated from the sibley tent by its walls, raised larger entrance and guy ropes, without the extendable tripod or smoke hole, which were characteristics of the tipi.
