EDIT: I have more details on the issue and it is better described as this: Restricted files that have been shared with a non-Google email incorrectly still show their status as Restricted, when in reality they are accessible by Anyone with the link.

If you've developed a Drive app using any of the restrictedscopes, we recommend migrating your app to use a non-sensitive scope as itgrants per-file access scope and narrows access to specific features neededby an app. Many apps work with per-file access without any changes. If you'reusing your own file picker, we recommend switching to the Google Picker API whichfully supports different scopes.

The drive.file OAuth scope lets users choose which files they want to sharewith your app. This gives them more control and confidence that your app'saccess to their files is limited and more secure. In contrast, requiring broadaccess to all Drive files could discourage users from interactingwith your app. The following are some reasons why you should usedrive.file scope:

Features: The Google Picker API provides a similar interface to theDrive UI. This includes several views showing previews andthumbnails of Drive files, and an inline, modal window sousers never leave the main app.

The advanced Drive service allows you to use the Google Drive web API in Apps Script. Much like Apps Script's built-in Drive service, this API allows scripts to create, find, and modify files and folders in Google Drive.

This article contains information about the restrictions and limitations that apply to files, file names and file types when syncing with OneDrive for home, OneDrive for work or school or SharePoint in Microsoft 365.

Files that are used by your local computer, such as desktop.ini on Windows or .ds_store on macOS, don't normally sync. If these files do get uploaded to OneDrive during a migration, the sync app will delete the cloud copy and leave the local copy.

Outlook .PST files are supported, however they are synced less frequently compared to other file types to reduce network traffic. To prevent uploading .PST files from the OneDrive sync app, read Blocking syncing of specific file types. To move .PST files out of OneDrive, read How to remove an Outlook PST data file from OneDrive. If users enable PC folder backup (Known Folder Move) manually without the group policy, they will see an error if they have a .PST file in one of their known folders (e.g. Documents). If Known Folder Move is enabled and configured via group policy, .PST files will be migrated.

For security reasons, a number of file names and extensions can't be uploaded since they are executable, used by SharePoint Server, or used by Windows itself. For more info, see Types of files that cannot be added to a list or library.

When syncing, you are also limited to the Windows Explorer or macOS file path limits. For example, in Windows Explorer, the limit is 256 usable characters not including the drive letter (like C:\) nor the terminating null character. Read more about max path limitations in Windows.

For optimum performance, we recommend syncing no more than a total of 300,000 files across your cloud storage. Performance issues can occur if you have more than 300,000 items, even if you are not syncing all items.

If OneDrive sync seems to be stuck for a long time or the status shows "Processing 0KB of xMB" it could be because you have a lot of files in your OneDrive or a lot of new files to be uploaded. If you have more than 300,000 files, sync can take a long time.

If the Contains number is more than 300,000 you should consider to reduce files in OneDrive. If you have shortcut folders or synced SharePoint libraries, removing shortcut folders and stop syncing the libraries are also effective.

This guide shows how you can download a private/restricted file from google drive to your app, using a google apps script web app. Expanding on this, it also demonstrates how to download a directory structure from google drive and replicate it on an android device.

I'm using Google Drive with my organisation account (i.e. [email protected] not [email protected]). I'm trying to transfer all my files to my personal account ([email protected]). However, when I go to share everything and change the owner, it comes up with the following warning:

How can I copy over the files so that they are owned by my personal account? I do not want to have to download them first and upload them again, as I have some files that are linked to apps (i.e. non-downloadable). This post suggests using Google Takeout, which my organisation restricts access to, so that's not an option either.

Then enter to your personal account, go to "Activity", and in the files you want to copy click on "More actions (the button with 3 dots in vertical) > Make a copy". A copy of the files will be created in your personal account Drive, with owner permissions.

Share the folder to the second account and use the chrome extension Copy Folder to make a separate copy with the ownership. This extension recursively copies all the files. To add to this, it also allows the copying of the permissions.

I'm not sure if you need an enterprise account for this but if you can set up Shared Drives, they can be used as an intermediary to fully transfer ownership of files. This works best for low to medium numbers of files unless you're willing to write a script for it since it seems to have problems with folders or very large amounts of files.

I wanted to sync files from my Program Files folder however it does not show up in synology drive client. I have found multiple posts on the internet of people with the same problem without a good solution. But have found a good solution myself, which does not require duplicating data or forces you to use other programs.

You will still not be allowed to create a folder in synology drive client that are called any of the restricted folder names like for example "Program Files (x86)". But you could call it anything slightly different like "ProgramFiles(x86) Hardlink".

At the moment, I need to choose between a) using a service account with the

drive scope and having rclone data exposed via the web interface and b) using the OAuth 2 token flow with the drive.appfolder scope and not having rclone data exposed via the web interface.

The file I want to download is account restricted meaning only a person with a particular Google account can access the file. (i.e. the file has been set to restricted by right clicking it and clicking share and choosing the option so only a particular google account email address can access it, so only a person logged in as that person can access it)

If the file is set restricted to only a particular gmail account, then if it's possible to download with wget, i'd have to load cookies. And i've made a cookie/cookies file, in the manner I described. And then tried running wget with it, but it doesn't work. And infact even if I do wget without --load-cookies, I get the same error of "result too large".

This might be a way to a solution though I haven't tested it yet @acpanjan/download-google-drive-files-using-wget-3c2c025a8b99 a possible source is this link from a page of a user called "iamtekeste" from a commenter called beliys

When you share from Google Drive, you can control whether people can edit, comment on, or view your file. ITS recommends using caution when you choose permissions for your files and folders in U-M Google Drive to ensure the privacy and security of university data. This is especially true when collaborating with people outside of U-M. You are responsible for appropriately sharing data with only those who should have access to it. This document provides best practices for sharing files and folders in Google Drive.

We recommend only sharing your files with those who need them. If the list of users grows too large, we recommend using an MCommunity group to help manage permissions. To learn more about using MCommunity with Google, refer to Google: Working with MCommunity Groups.

Shareable links can be used to share files with a broader audience or specific people. These links are accessible and customizable under General access in the sharing dialog box. When you click Copy link, a shared link is copied. Link sharing is useful for sharing non-sensitive files that require immediate attention or with large numbers of colleagues who need access to a file. If link sharing is used, this link is set to Restricted by default, so only people you've shared the file with can access the link.

When sharing with a non-Google account, we strongly recommend using visitor sharing. With visitor sharing, you can share items with non-Google accounts, enabling them to view, comment on, or edit content in Google Drive (My Drive and shared drives) and Sites using a secure PIN code. As a file owner, you can view detailed activity on your files and revoke access from the Drive sharing dialog at any time.

Note: Visitors can edit, comment on, or view your files for seven days after they verify their email address. After seven days, they will need to reverify using the original shared link in their email invite, so it's best to remind them to save the email!
