You can restore, save and load V-Ray settings (in a .vropt file format) from the bottom three buttons in the Settings panel area. The three options are Load Render Settings from File..., Save Render Settings to File... and Revert to Default Render Settings. These options are inactive during rendering.

Once your SketchUp model, materials, and lights are ready for a final render, you can turn off the [Interactive] render and turn on [Progressive] and click [Render with V-Ray]. It may differ from the Interactive render, so may need some adjustments to get things right. For example, often, you need to adjust the Exposure Value and Aerial Perspective. You will get a JPG, PNG, or TIFF file from this final render for your post-production, known as photoshopping. The final render will take a few minutes to a few hours depending on the size of the image and the complexity of the model (more points), material settings (reflectivity, bump, displacements), and number of lighting sources.

I need help with my render. I have tweaked the VRay render settings about a million times, changed the materials and even the lighting. I still don't have the realistic look I am after. I don't know what the problem is. Please, I need some help.

Those tree models are pretty bad. You can get free fairly decent 3d models at xfrog.com. The 3ds or OBJ files can be imported into sketchup pretty easily, you then just play with the various materials to get them looking better. You will likely need to convert them to proxies too. Note that these will bump up your file size/ram usage and render times a lot.

In order to fully understand the possible render output in V-Ray using various environment settings such as V-Ray Sun and Sky, Domelight+ HDRI and V-Ray Environment + HDRI, I made a simple rendering experimentation that highlights different parameters or settings which generally affect the tonality and atmosphere of the rendered image output.

In V-Ray default setting, V-Ray Sun and V-Ray Sky are special features which are provided by the V-Ray Renderer. When set in default setting, notice the sunlight is enabled. If you go to V-Ray Asset Editor> Settings> Environment> Background, you can see that the default background is set to V-Ray Sky or technically the V-Ray Sun (V-Ray sunlight). Under Environment Overrides, the GI Skylight is technically turned off in default settings. However, when you turn on the GI Skylight option and choose the V-Ray sky as the light source, the render result will be similar to V-Ray default settings. In comparison to Dome light and V-Ray Environment settings, the shadow appeared to be sharper when rendered using V-Ray Sun and sky system.

What is the best way to get the dark shadows you see in the renders I had enclosed?

Is the intention on this to be able to apply the materials without putzing around with texture mapping (rather, just assigning the material into the layer/object)?

Is it best to turn on curves in the render display mode or in the universal render settings?
