My folks are late 50's early 60's and want something simple. We just upgraded them to an OLED Sony TV (A80CK). I was hopeful that the remote included would control external devices but it was secondary to price and functionality.

They built their place 15 years ago and had a whole home audio system installed which is still fantastic for its functionality and worth but the receiver (Yamaha - IR control only) is older. Replacing this would require a significant overhaul of an audio system that is integrated throughout house with 8 zones of independent volume control and 6 zones of independent audio control.

For simple install that doesn't require an integrator I'd always gone Logitech in the past but that's of course discontinued and since then I've explored several universal remotes to no avail with the notable ones being:

TL;DR: Is there any universal remote anyone can recommend that would allow voice control for GoogleTV and Xfinity that is reasonably priced and can control existing equipment without replacing existing hardware?

The Xfinity Voice Remote (models XR11, XR15, XR16, XRA and the Xfinity Web Remote) is a remote control that allows you to find what you want faster by using voice commands to change channels, search for shows, get recommendations and more. If you have Xfinity X1 or Xfinity Flex, you can use your voice to quickly find your favorite content, search, tune to channels and control your DVR.

This is probably a stupid question, but I thought there was a Harmony remote with push button voice control (like the Xfinity remotes), but I can't seem to find any of the models with that feature. I thought for sure they made one, but I might be mistaken. Thanks!

I have 4 roku voice remotes. Within the last month, 2 of the 4 no long have voice control. I have tried everything. My phone app works fine for voice control, and the other two remotes work fine on the systems that fail. It appears to be the remote itself, however I find it very strange that two would stop working on two different tv within a week of each other. And yes, I have tried resetting and repairing many times

Have you tried to re-pair your remote to the device? What troubleshooting steps have you taken so far to try to resolve the issue?

Google assistant wont-work with it. The app on my phone still doesn't work. I don't know what the problem is. I've done all the repairing open remote control. I put new batteries in it. I unplugged the TV and it still doesn't work don't know why. Try to to wake up to reconnect to the Google a system. It says it's connected but nothing will work not even on the Google assistants.

@Opaboston, I don't have much help to offer other than Google assistant has nothing to do with the remote, so you can stop messing with the remote. If you can't use your phone to control your Roku you might want to start there. The phone and Roku have to be connected to the same network (as does the Google assistant device). Try restarting your router. Did it ever work?

To change the channel using your Voice Remote, press the Voice (Microphone) button, which activates Voice Control, and say something similar to the following voice commands:

The new Fios TV Voice Remote is a much smaller, sleeker and more advanced remote than many. It offers voice commands and even has a "find my Fios TV Voice Remote" feature in case it ever gets misplaced. It's convenient, intuitive and mostly--it's just fun to use.

Info button - Press the Info button to get more details on the show you're watching.

Mute Button - Use this button to mute the sound from your TV. Play/Pause, Rewind and Fast Forward buttons - Use the Play/Pause, Rewind and Fast Forward buttons to control the following:

With the Fios TV Voice Remote, you can use your voice to tell your Fios TV One what to do. Simply press and hold the microphone button to give commands. Speak normally and hold the Fios TV Voice Remote about 12 inches from your mouth. If held too closely, your voice may come across distorted and difficult for the Fios TV Voice Remote to understand.

Even though Your Voice Remote communicates with your Fios TV One or Fios TV One Mini wirelessly, it still controls your TV functions (On/Off; Volume up-down, Mute and input) using infrared light like a traditional remote. Always point your Fios TV Voice Remote at the TV or audio device you wish to control.

You may use an IR extender by plugging it in to the IR/EXT jack on the back of your Fios TV One or Fios TV One Mini. Voice control and "Find my Remote" features require a paired, Fios TV Voice Remote to function. These features are not currently supported by third party IR remotes or home theater controllers.

Any tips or troubleshooting to get my Contour remote control's voice feature to work again? All other remote features are working okay. I also checked the remote itself and it looks fine, plus its fairly new (I got the service less than 2 moths ago).

I could have written this because the details are exactly as were my own. The only thing not mentioned here that applied to me was that the voice command tone sounded strange when I pushed the voice command button. It was more of a burst of static than a tone. After unpairing and repairing the remote, restoring factory settings, checking that the voice command feature was turned on in the receiver settings, I noticed that my battery life was very low. There was enough juice left for basic functionality (about 10%) but it occurred to me that perhaps there wsan't enough juice to activate the mic and/or the voice recognition algorithm. Sure enough - I swapped out the nearly dead batteries with fresh ones that registered 100% life and all was well again. The voice recognition tone returned, as did the functionality.

When I press the voice control button on the remote it says that it is listening or we're live but then comes up saying that its taking a while to respond because of too many tasks. get back to me later. This has been happening for a day or two now how do I fix this?

I have tried all of the other suggestions online, but pulling the plug is what does the trick! Reset the remote by pressing the return and 4-colour buttons, then re-plug the TV and switch it on. It works!

We just got Fibe TV last week. Google Assistant initially worked fine on 3 boxes and 3 remotes. Then it stopped working on all 3. Tried all of the suggestions in this thread - rebooting, disconnecting & reconnecting, etc., etc. and nothing worked. Figured it was a problem in the system and not with my hardware, so on a hunch I removed my Google account from the Fibe TV system. Now Google Assistant works perfectly fine. I'll add my Google account back as I need it, but for now I'll leave it off so the Assistant works.

What I mean is, the voice command feature does not work at all. One of the main features that Fibe TV is sold on is that they have voice command. The voice command feature does not work at all and two separate techs told me that this feature does not work and it is a common issue. I think it is odd that Bell sold me this box under the idea that I would have voice control, but it does not function. Can anyone on the forum confirm for me that the voice command on their Fibe streaming box works?

Hi, I may have a solution to this problem. Question: When you press a button on your remote, does the LED light on the remote blink green? It should never be green. The LED should always blink red when a button is pressed. To fix this, you will need to unpair your remote then pair it again. In the Home Menu, scroll to "Device Settings" then scroll to "Remote" then scroll to "Unpair". If the unpairing was successful, you will be prompted to press the Pause/Play Button and the Home Button together until the remote light blinks red. If this doesn't work, reboot your tv box and try the above instructions again.... This remote's LED light should always blink red when a button is pressed, and when the Google Button is pressed it will blink red but will hold until you've said your command. Also, as you probably already know, you should to be signed into your Google account on your tv, otherwise the google mic will not work. Hope this helps. Please let me know. I just got this new service on Nov 1st and am really loving it, but somehow my remote started to glow green and I figured it out. (Only because I have a second box and tv in another room and the remote light LED was red and Google Assistant worked perfectly.

Note:  The remote uses a Bluetooth connection for voice operation. Try doing a quick battery test with the TV off by pressing and holding VOL down (-) button and then pressing the Microphone button. The light at the top of the remote should flash, if it doesn't, the batteries are too low and need replacing.

Prior to performing further troubleshooting steps, confirm whether the remote control has a Microphone button or mark. Remote controls that support voice recognition will have that button or mark.

Symptoms may improve by updating the software of the remote control. Check whether there is a software update for the remote control. For details, refer to the How to perform a TV remote control software update article. 2351a5e196
