The same holds true with my general approach to strength training. If bodypart splits, using machines and/ or standing on a BOSU ball for all of your exercises produced the best results that is what I would use. However, the evidence is pretty clear that total body training, bodyweight and free weight exercises and limited instability training produce superior results.

In fact, one of the little known facts about the FMS is its correlation to reaction time. In his study of the FMS Gray has noted a direct correlation between a higher score on the screen and higher reaction times. While we could debate exactly why this is, the fact is that that the better you move the faster you can react.

This is obviously very important for mountain bikers as we have to process a lot of info very quickly and react to the trail in a split second. The faster you go, or want to go, the more important reaction time becomes.

I think that reaction time is one of those forgotten elements to becoming a better rider. You can get stronger and more powerful, increase you cardio capacity and basically improve your speed potential but if you can not process and react to the faster speeds then you will simply find yourself spending more time picking yourself up off the ground after a wreck.

Based on my experience, most mountain bikers have some common movement dysfunctions. You can go to www.functionalmovement.com and look at the 7 point movement screen and pay special attention to the shoulder mobility, active leg raise, trunk stability push up and rotational stability screen. If you can not pass the screen for those movements then any training program that does not work on fixing those things will simply place a bigger engine in a misaligned chassis.

You can not simply do more of what got you to where you are in order to continue improving. Understanding how you move and how to improve it will help take you program, and your results, to that next level.

Study selection:  Randomised (RCT) or clinical controlled trials (CCT) of volitional and reactive stepping interventions that included older (minimum age 60) people providing data on falls or fall risk factors.

Conclusions:  The findings indicate that both reactive and volitional stepping interventions reduce falls among older adults by approximately 50%. This clinically significant reduction may be due to improvements in reaction time, gait, balance and balance recovery but not in strength. Further high-quality studies aimed at maximising the effectiveness and feasibility of stepping interventions are required.

These are some of my favourite exercises I have been doing during lockdown in Barcelona to improve my reflexes and anticipation. They are perfect for when you want to vary your training or if your courts are closed.

Having good reflexes is super important for tennis players especially for those who often play at the net. When you come to the net you will be much closer to your opponent and the ball. The ball will be coming at you at a fairly high speed so you need to learn to react quicker to gain time.

Virtual reality (VR) training has been used successfully to rehabilitate functional balance and mobility in both traumatic brain injury (TBI) survivors and elderly subjects. Similarly, computer-based biofeedback (BF) training has resulted in decreased sway during quiet stance and decreased reaction times during a dual-task reaction time paradigm in elderly subjects. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of VR and BF training on balance and reaction time in older adults. Two groups of twelve healthy older adults completed 10-week training programs consisting of two 30-min sessions per week. VR training required that participants lean sideways to juggle a virtual ball. Participants in the BF group viewed a red dot representing their center of gravity on a screen and were required to move the dot to the four corners of the monitor. Measures of functional balance and mobility (Community Balance and Mobility Scale [CB&M]), sway during quiet stance, and reaction time during a dual task paradigm were recorded before training, as well as 1 week and 1 month after the end of the program. Both groups showed significant improvements on the CB&M, as well as decreased reaction times with training. Postural sway during quiet stance did not change significantly.

Ordered this product with tripod, battery pack and extra balls. Our softball athletes enjoyed this product and felt this helped our offensive training. Highly recommend to those looking to improve hand/eye coordination at the plate.

Machine is very accurate and consistent! Unlimited training opportunities for hitting and visual recognition. Can get in lots of reps in a short period of time. Would definitely recommend this product.

This is @hittingcoachnate on Instagram and Facebook! I use this EVERYDAY for lessons or When I COACH LORAS COLLEGE.

We use it for

-Hitting(GREATLY DECREASE STRIKEOUTS, INCREASE CONTACT RATIO) Giving you SO MANY MORE CHANCES to get on base. Which increases your chances of runs. Best thing EVER for bat-to-ball skills.

-Fielding(In the gym or turf, we set all our infielders up, and let this thing RIP as fast as it can at them. Really learn to track the ball.

-Catching(become the best at receiving) you want to be a great catcher, learn to catch with the finger gloves. Get SMOOTH behind the plate and get it in the pocket EVERY...SINGLE...TIME.

-Outfield - Use the RAMP and curveball setting to learn how to TRACK and find the ball. Put it on Turbo to really launch the ball. Take out the stoppers to throw 3 balls back to back to back.

There is just so much to do with this machine. From EVERY PART of the game. I FREAKING LOVE THIS MACHINE.

My son enjoys using the MaxBP. It has helped him realize how important it is to keep his head still and not pull off the ball. He makes contact with the ball consistently in his games and rarely strikes out.

My son plays youth baseball year-round in the Pacific NW with several outdoor winter and early spring tournaments. Early on this proved challenging to keep his hands warm and bat swinging in the cold, inclement weather. Based on a website review I read, I ordered him a pair of Frost Gear Cold Weather Polar-Flex batting gloves. This was the solution we were looking for. i was initially concerned that any extra thickness in the glove would feel strange to my son and affect his swing. It did not. I asked him about the feel of the gloves after the game and he was extremely excited about them. They kept his hands warm without changing his swing. He wore them consistently the entire season without fail. My son raved about these gloves so much we bought them as birthday gifts for other players on his team - they gave the same rave review. I am buying these for my son again for this season, and I'm buying my softball-playing daughter a pair as well. I highly recommend these gloves if you have a player that has outdoor games in inclement weather.

I have been using the MAXBP Original Machine since the beginning of the summer and it has been fantastic. I have been extremely satisfied with the quality and overall performance of the machine. It has not disappointed at all. The boys on my team have also enjoyed using the machine. During practice they all want to be at the MAX BP station as much as possible. Finally, the machine has worked at increasing the players bat to ball skills during game action.

The frost gear batting gloves were everything I expected and more! I used the warm weather gloves in the summer and they held up almost perfectly. I gained a small tear near my bottom hand thumb from sliding into home. I sent a picture to Frost Gear and they sent me 2 new pairs of gloves for free! Being a baseball player I used a lot of pine tar and they gloves never tore on the palms. Overall great company and gloves!

Visual processing, visual fields, and visual reaction times are essential to the performance of numerous sports and play a role in athletic injuries. Vision training, a process using visual exercises as part of a structured sports conditioning program, can be used to both enhance sports performance and prevent injury by improving neurovisual processing.

In this review, evidence and methods concerning vision training programs are presented with the results suggesting performance enhancement and/or injury prevention, primarily concussion. Multiple studies are reviewed and utilized as examples that vision training programs designed to improve athletic performance or prevent injury are effective.

We conclude from the collected evidence and theoretical considerations that vision training for numerous sports can be implemented with goals to improve performance and/or decrease injuries, specifically concussion.

Key Points: 1) In this opinion paper we believe that vision training improves neurovisual processing. The vision training improves certain brain functions. 2) That vision training programs as part of athlete conditioning can improve athletic performance. Eye hand coordination, reaction times and peripheral awareness improve on the field of play. Obviously this benefit can be sport specific with some sports benefiting more than others. 3) There is emerging evidence that concussion rates can be decreased following pre-season vision training programs. The cause and effect needs to be better established and future research should address this opinion.

The mission of the Journal of Sports and Performance Vision (ISSN: 2563-3236) is to encourage research and scholarship relative to the human visual system and its integration into neurological processing and output through the dissemination of peer reviewed research, studies, and manuscripts. The aim is to validate and broaden the scope of research in vision performance science. This open access journal serves as a platform for vision and performance scientist throughout the world to share the latest and most influential information available. 152ee80cbc
