"Rainbow" is a song recorded by American country music artist Kacey Musgraves. It was released as the fifth and final single from Musgraves' third studio album, Golden Hour (2018) in February 2019. Musgraves co-wrote the song with Shane McAnally and Natalie Hemby. Its release coincided with her performance at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards.[1]

She performed the song live on the 61st Annual Grammy Awards on February 10, 2019. During the show, Musgraves won the Grammy for Album of the Year for its parent album Golden Hour, in addition to Best Country Album.[5] For the performance, Musgraves donned a simple white gown and was accompanied by a pianist playing a rainbow piano behind her.[6]

The music video was directed by Hannah Lux Davis (who also directed her "High Horse" music video), and premiered on February 10, 2019, coinciding with her performance on the Grammy Awards.[8] In it, various characters are shown in different rooms of a dimly lit house, including "a single mother taking care of her child, a man facing his alcohol abuse, a young person wrestling with gender identity, and a teenager caught in the middle of a family crisis."[8] Scenes of Musgraves performing the song either accompanying the others or alone are mixed in throughout the video and near the end she is seen sitting on the floor of a room surrounded by lush greenery and flowers as a rainbow appears overhead.[9]

"Rainbow" debuted at No. 58 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart for the chart dated February 16, 2019. In its second week, it entered the top 40, making it her highest-peaking single since "Keep It to Yourself" in 2014. It also debuted at No. 17 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and at No. 98 on the Billboard Hot 100. On the latter, it became her first song to chart in six years. The song was certified Platinum by the RIAA on November 15, 2023,[10] it has sold 143,000 copies in the United States as of January 2020.[11]

I'm trying to find the rainbow song from the animated tv show Undone. The only place it seems to be is in the show but only pieces of it at a time. I'm trying to see if there is a complete version of it anywhere but can't find it.

Even though things have changed in songwriting in ways that would be unimaginable to the writers of Somewhere Over The Rainbow, I still think its principles are useful and instructive, and will never go out of style.

The proportions of the melodic line are just about perfect and I agree with your assessment. I might also mention it is an excellent choice, when coaching younger players who are new to improv or jazz, for experimenting with voicings, chord substitutions, etc. The song lends itself to a great many alternate choices, harmonically, which is another reason for its continued popularity.

1992-2009PreviousNext"Painting the Shapes""The Airplane Song"The Rainbow Song is an original Barney song that first appeared in "The Treasure Of Rainbow Beard".

When we asked Kesha to take us through Rainbow track by track, it was clear she didn't want to rehash the deeply personal issues that have plagued her over the last few years. Instead, she wanted to talk about the music. She told us about her love for Brian Wilson ("I've been obsessively listening to Pet Sounds for a long time," she says) and her desire to uncover emotional truths in her songs ("I was just letting myself be honest with how I felt every day," she explains). She also told us, via email, how her country roots, love of outer space and belief in pursuing kindness all made their way into her Rainbow.

"Let 'Em Talk" is one of my favorite songs on the album. It's kind of part of a running theme: basically it's about those same bastards that try to bring you down, but it's about not caring, letting go of control and letting them do whatever they're gonna do. You can't stop them from talking about you, so just let them talk and while they're talking about you, just dance through it and laugh about it.

"Woman" is another of my favorite songs. This song is about being a woman, a huma, and proud of the confidence I have found. I finally feel like I have earned the right to say "I'm a motherf****** woman." And I've always had that right, but I just feel like a woman now more than ever.

I got to write this song with two amazing men [Drew Pearson and Wrabel] who are so wonderful, and so fabulous, and have really strong feminine sides, and who really loved writing this song with me. I was a really beautiful experience to write this song with two men.

"Praying" is a song that is really special to me. I feel like it shows my voice in a way that it has never been showcased before in my entire life. And it's the first time I've worked with Ryan Lewis, which is really exciting. I'm a huge fan of his work with Macklemore. He came to me with this idea, and I thought it was just so beautiful because I think it's really important to find healing.

"Learn To Let Go" is a song a I wrote with my mom and Stewart Creighton. The first day, we had written this amazing melody, but then we got stuck, and I was so frustrated. The next day we had breakfast with a friend of mine. And just by talking to her, I was just so inspired to be around someone who has had the past that she's had, but still is this ball of light.

"Rainbow" was the first song I wrote for this record. I was in rehab for my eating disorder. I was sitting on the floor, and I had begged the head of the rehab to let me have a keyboard for one hour a day, and finally she relented. And for that one hour a day I played and wrote "Rainbow." "Rainbow" was just my promise, my letter to myself that things would get better. It was my mantra, because at the end of a storm comes a rainbow. It's also the eighth song on Rainbow, a nod to "God Only Knows" on Pet Sounds.

My mom started writing it a long time ago. And she played it to me and I remember just thinking like, "This is the greatest song. I f****** love this song." And I thought someone else was going to release it. This was years ago. And I was like, "I'm so happy for you. But if someone doesn't release it, I would definitely love to do this song." It's just so whimsical. It like reminds me of Brian Wilson's "Vegetables" song. It's just so bizarre but brilliant and beautiful and strange.

The song she chose to honor those who died and were injured in the bombing is a dazzling bit of emotion-laden songwriting. Here are some things Ariana Grande fans may not know about this true American beauty:

The 2014 Oscars celebrated the 75th anniversary of the release of "The Wizard of Oz" by having Pink sing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" to a backdrop of highlights from the film. What few people realized while listening to that incredible performer singing that unforgettable song is that the music is deeply embedded in the Jewish experience.

It is no accident that some of the greatest Christmas songs of all time, such as "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "White Christmas," were written by Jews. "Rudolph" was written by Johnny Marks, and "White Christmas" was penned by Irving Berlin, a cantor's son.

But perhaps the most poignant song to emerge out of the mass exodus from Europe was "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". The lyrics were written by Yip Harburg, the youngest of four children born to Russian-Jewish immigrants. His real name was Isidore Hochberg, and he grew up in a Yiddish-speaking, Orthodox Jewish home in New York.

Together, Hochberg and Arluck wrote "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," which was voted the 20th century's No. 1 song by the Recording Industry Association of America and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Jews of Europe could not fly. They could not escape beyond the rainbow. Harburg was almost prescient when he talked about wanting to fly like a bluebird away from the "chimney tops." In the post-Auschwitz era, chimney tops have taken on a whole different meaning than the one they had at the beginning of 1939 because the Nazis had not yet created the crematoriums and gas chambers that they used during the Holocaust.

Pink's mom is Judith Kugel. She's Jewish of Lithuanian background. As Pink was belting the Harburg/Arlen song from the stage at the Academy Awards, I wasn't thinking about the movie. I was thinking about Europe's lost Jews and the immigrants to America.

Because Donald Trump can never admit losing, denials about the results of the 2020 presidential election started as soon as it was called for Joe Biden. In this song, Rainbow channels Trump's press secretary Kayleigh McEnany to make fun of the election lies, using the tune of "Getting Married Today" from Stephen Sondheim's Company.

Pynchon loves to embed song lyrics into the text of his stories, but why? For him the writing process does not involve only the traditional dialogue and description; music heavily colors his books too. Though present in nearly all of Pynchon's novels, more attention has been paid to the songs in Gravity's Rainbow over any other (probably as a mere consequence of the book's overwhelming clout). On this topic reference must be made to the collaborative band, The Thomas Pynchon Fake Book, who have composed and performed music to many of the songs written for GR.

An interesting discovery was made by someone in the Pynchon community that connects a song from Mason & Dixon to "Love Lifts Us Up Where We Belong" (the Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes duet from An Officer and a Gentleman). Such a connection implies that Pynchon could have written the M&D song intentionally to fit with the tune and melody from "Love Lifts Us Up." This possibility opens up the opportunity for a surmountable research effort, the aim of which would be to discover which other of Pynchon's lyrics fit to existing songs (such research is par for the course when attempting to decode any Pynchon novel). With many minds serving as the eyes and ears for such a project it may be possible for other tunes to be connected. e24fc04721
