The photography of natural animals is probably one of the most dangerous types of photography. The outcome totally depends on the skills of photographer and the time when the shot is taken. A photographer who uses good exposure, color and blur settings along with appropriate shutter speed and focusing techniques can produce stunning photographs.

We are super excited to be lauching our Comedy Wildlife Guided African Safari (yup, i know, catchy title) for October 2024. Not only guided by the legendary Kate Humble, but also our founders Paul Joynson-Hicks, a wildlife Photographer and Tom Sullam who takes pictures of things that dont move...zzzz I jest of course, he is an award-winning landscape photographer so ideally placed for our African adventure. Its a small group of 12 people maximum in three vehicles, so loads of space. Its an adventure.

At night, many wild animals arrive to quench their thirst in this watering hole. First there were antelopes, zebras, giraffes, porcupines and mongooses. As their habitat is reduced and the populations of their potential prey decrease, they are forced to approach human settlements to feed on cattle and other domestic animals, which most of the time does not end well for jaguars.

"What you can anticipate is potentially something happening so you want to position yourself in the way you think that animals will move, where the light is, how that's going to affect the speed of your camera," Hadley said.

"Wherever wildlife is happening, you try to stake out a good spot and you just take pictures for hours trying to get the best image, whether it's a unique facial expression or an animal doing something unique to make the picture special," he told NPR.

So much of nature photography is understanding nature. Observing landscape scenery in different times of year with different angles of light and color temperature guides you to finding the right place at the right time of year and time of day. With animal and bird photography, understanding the subject you are shooting is essential. Knowing the activity and movement patterns of birds and animals throughout the day will increase your chances of getting an amazing image. The main thing to becoming a better nature photographer is spending time in nature with your eyes and translating that to where you need to be with your camera. For bird photography, bringing binoculars on a walk helps you understand what is in the area beyond the reach of the naked eye. It is also essential in locating birds prior to bringing the camera to your eye.

There are two limitations with cell phones that I see. First is their telephoto ability to get sharp photos of distant objects/animals. The zoom reach may be adequate for travel or simple landscape photography but very limited for telephoto wildlife or bird photography. The second is the control of depth of field (the near to far distance that is in focus). Wildlife photography requires sharp focus of the subject with blurring of the foreground and background which is hard to achieve with a cell phone.

And third, share your findings with other naturalists, and they are likely to return the favor. Lancaster has active nature clubs like the Muhlenberg Botanical Club and the Lancaster Butterfly and Entomology Club, both great places to meet and compare notes with other amateur naturalists and photographers.

I use a Canon R6 full frame mirrorless camera with a 100mm macro lens now that I have more professional equipment, but when I started, I was using an older DSLR model, the crop sensor Canon Rebel T3, combined with my favorite lens, 60mm macro. To this day, even though I have upgraded, I still think my best nature work was done on the Rebel.

When I was four years old, I was finally allowed to go horseback riding. I fell in love with a 22-year old Icelandic mare, who not only taught me on how to stay on the bare back of a horse in EVERY speed, but more about life, and finally death, than I can put in words. Horses and animals in general have always been strong landmarks in my life, they brought me in contact with animal communication and the Tellington method, which are still influencing my work and life. Due to my training as a Tellington practitioner and my horse-related travels to Spain and Ireland, I had the chance to meet and photograph amazing animals and humans. Capturing the magic that can happen between us is an ongoing project.

The Numbat is an endangered small marsupial that survives in southwest Western Australia. Due to its small size, the Numbat is hunted by many animals like feral cats, foxes, dingoes and birds of prey. Because it solely on termites which are active by day, the Numbat is the only diurnal (opposite of nocturnal) marsupial.

Sandesh Kadur is known for his beautiful wildlife films. He is a National Geographic fellow and maker of images and films. His stills and video are dramatic and moving tributes to the animals he photographs.

Morgan Heim is a senior fellow at the International League of Conservation Photographers. She is a photographer with a unique vision. Many of her images are shot wide and show wild animals in their natural environment.

Tin Man Lee is best known for his tight, intimate portraits of animals in the wild. The crisp, detailed eyes of his subjects stand out like floodlights. The eyes are windows to the soul, the saying goes. And Lee takes that statement to heart.

Birthday gift for my wife, and after waiting an extra year because of the pandemic, we can still report that it was worth the wait! The animals are well taken care of in a peaceful sanctuary for them. We went for the otters, who were so much fun, yet also enjoyed all their other animals. Most importantly, we love the charity work they do and were proud to support it. Go!

You will never have an experience like this. You get to interact and touch a wide variety of animals as the actually play with you. The staff is very knowledgeable and take the time to answer questions. They do not allow people under 18 years old.

This is truly unbelievable experience. We got to be in a pool with otters as well as petting and learning about porcupines, lemurs, armadillos and other animals. The staff is so nice and friendly. I could not have hoped for a better experience.

Looking for an amazing experience with a fantastic conservation company that does international work trying to keep all species of otters from going extinct...AND also works closely with Make A Wish kids to give them an experience of a lifetime?! Go do an otter swim with Nurtured by Nature!!!!! You will never laugh so hard, or believe how many sea otters will swim into your swim shirt at one time! And you get to interact with a bunch of other awesome animals too!!!

This experience is everything you could have dreamed of! Not only do you get to interact with otters and finish the day off by swimming with them, but you also get to interact with MANY different animals as well. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and it is more than worth the trip- an experience I will never forget!

This was a bucket list item checked off that was worth the 3 year wait and worth every penny!! It was awesome to interact with several different animals and to cap it off swimming with otters was great. Everyone there was so friendly and knowledgeable about the animals there. I would recommend this experience to anyone that wants to interact with otters and help out good causes at the same time.
