Until recently I have had no trouble accessing and using the MF634cdw scanner from within either Paperport or PaperScan. Last week I added an Epson FF-680W and I could no longer scan using the Canon from those apps. ScanGear is called by those apps and it simply crashed. I first tried uninstalling the Epson, rebooting and trying to scan via the Canon. Didn't work -- ScanGear still crashing within both apps. I then installed the Canon Scanner Utility and I was able to scan from that using any of the buttons, including ScanGear. However, still couldn't scan from those apps. I then uninstalled the Canon drivers, uninstalled the Epson drivers, rebooted, reinstalled the Canon drivers, rebooted..... Still no luck. I'm at a loss what to do..... Driving me crazy and spending waaay too much time trying to make this work......

If the program crashes whenever you try to use either scanner, it looks like there might be a twain conflict occurring. Windows can have problems when more than one twain driver is activated. In this situation, you can try going into the twain folder on your computer C:\Windows\twain_32 and moving all of the files except the wiatwain.ds file to the desktop temporarily. Once the files have been removed, you can try reinstalling the drivers for the MF634Cdw and then trying a scan from your program again.

I was wondering if there is any way to bring up a scanners software using java. Basically I want to be able to have a user click on a "scan in document" button and then whatever scanner is installed on the users PC will come up asking for scan options and etc.

I would suggest scanning the linework on a flatbed scanner if its not huge. Otherwise the large format scanner is kind of the only option and you do run the risk of ruining the drawing. Consider adding a sheet of bond with the trace taped securely to it.

To generate a printable copy or a PDF from a camera photo of a document we have to manually convert quite a lot achieve an image similar to he output from a scanner. Most of these conversions can be done with Gimp.

Unlike a scanner our camera may not get the source in parallel to the image borders. The Gimp Rotate or Perspective tool will give us a visual feedback to be able to rotate or adjust the perspective of an image until the text lines are in parallel to the page.

Depending on the camera resolution scaling up the image to a scanner image size will only increase the file size but will have no benefit on the image quality. Scaling down will remove details. Thererfore we should not scale the image but adjust the print size from the printer dialog (or below in 8.).

It's really the Professional edition where PaperScan really comes into its own, offering a comprehensive range of features to add to your scanner to make organizing scanned files so much easier. Features here include support for PDF-OCR in over 60 languages, batch processing with automatic blank page removal, annotations, and additional color editing tools.

The Adobe Scan scanner app is the first on our list, due to Adobe's range of additional PDF tools. The scanner app is free to download and allows you to preview file dimensions, as well as rotate, crop, and edit the color as required.

PaperScan Free Edition is universal scanning software designed to offer power as well as simplicity of use. While most scanning applications are dedicated to one scanner or one scanning protocol, PaperScan allows you to control any scanner, including network scanners (TWAIN or WIA protocols), cameras or acquisition cards. All features are automatically negotiated and handled by PaperScan. PaperScan Free Edition can scan and import ten pages, save as single page PDF/A, TIFF, JPEG, PNG, JBIG2, PDF Encryption support, and flatbed and document feeder support.

I scan many types of paper including pulp. If you are concerned about bleed-through, place a black or gray sheet or book behind the paper if it happens to have any drawing on the other side. I also own a Brother MFC J6920 DW A3/Tabloid (11in x 17in) scanner.

I think your question is really about finding a paper you like for your ink drawings. I don't think - I may be wrong - that the type of drawing paper will make any difference to it's ability to be scanned provided it will fit the scanner window.

You should just pick paper based on the media you use, but quality material = quality results. If there is any texture in the paper your scanner is picking up you can use a Levels Adjustment layer in Photoshop. See A Simple Way to Get Better Scans by Wayne Fulton. He offers easy to follow advice.

In Windows, if a WIA driver is installed for your scanner, you can use the Scan button to create a PDF. Press the Scan button, then select Adobe Acrobat from the list of registered applications in Windows. Then, select a scanner and a document preset or Custom Scan in the Acrobat scan interface.

If you specify that you want to use the Show scanner's user interface instead of the Acrobat user interface, other windows or dialog boxes appear. Consult the scanner documentation information on available options. In Mac OS, the scanner user interface is always shown.

Select this option only if you want to see the settings using the windows and dialog boxes provided by the scanner manufacturer. When the option is not selected, scanning starts directly with the settings specified in the Custom Scan or Configure Predefined Settings interface.

You can scan both sides of pages even on scanners that do not themselves support two-sided scanning. When Both Sides is selected, a dialog box appears after the first sides are scanned. You can then reverse the original paper documents in the tray, and select the Scan Reverse Side (Put Reverse Of Sheets) option in that dialog box. This method produces a PDF with all pages in the proper sequence.

Select a basic color mode (Autodetect, Color, Black and White, or Grayscale) that your scanner supports. This option is enabled if your Scanner Options are set to use the Acrobat scanning dialog box instead of the scanner application.

If your scanner has a manual brightness control, adjust it so that characters are clean and well-formed. If characters are touching, use a higher (brighter) setting. If characters are separated, use a lower (darker) setting.

You can use Acrobat to recognize text in previously scanned documents that have already been converted to PDF. Optical character recognition (OCR) software enables you to search, correct, and copy the text in a scanned PDF. The original scanner resolution must have been set at 72 dpi or higher to apply OCR to a PDF.

For scanner input trays, size and design requirements vary based on the needs of the scanning operation. Operators may prefer an input tray that aligns with batch sizes, which vary based on the business application and to a lesser degree the individual operational requirements of an organization. e24fc04721
