I'm brazilian (still learning english). Yesterday i was watching the main brazilian news program on my TV, and they told about a 11 yo student girl called Julia that found a new and easy way to calculate square roots of numbers. His teacher was so impressed about it that he helped her method get to a scientific journal. Her method was the following: You want to find the sqrt of 144, for example. You don't know it, so you pick a near possible answer, like 10 (sqrt of 100). Then, you add 100 + (sqrt(100))+ ((sqrt(100)) +1), or in simple terms: 100 + 10 + 11. You get 121, and sqrt(121) is equal to the last term in the sum, squared (11). Now you do the same again: 121 + 11 + 12, and guess what, you get 144, which square root is the sum's last term squared (12), and it goes on and on. The girl discovery was broadcasted in the entire country as something nobody has yet discovered, like the girl was the first person to ever figure it out. People are praising her in social media. I am 22 year old, and i have always liked math too and love questioning things. I personally think that student girl is very intelligent to figure it out. But now i'm questioning myself if that is really THAT BIG discovery that deserves so much attention. Is she the first person to have this idea? Or is media just exaggerating like it often does? Thanks.

I'm obsessed by this track @DiscoLines did such a great job ! I've decided to make my own version with faster tempo more aggressive drums, basse and a switch to a slower tempo with lower semitones.I hope you"ll like it !link of the original track : -girl

Lastly, the Laines have an adopted Black daughter, Marianne (Shara Moultrie), a girl they took in when she was very young and left behind at the house. Now she is a handful of months pregnant, and, with the father not in the picture, Nick has designs on marrying her off to the successful but MUCH older Mr. Perry (Jay Russell), whose wife died 12 years ago and who is quite keen on the idea. The potential pairing is, on the other hand, a very unpleasant thought for Marianne (and us).

This is outstanding for a beginning crocheter! It's pretty damn good for an experienced crocheter too, so speaking as someone who's been crocheting for 20+ years I'm quite impressed. :-) I do believe I'll toddle off to that link for the sunburst granny now, because I need to make a blanket for a baby girl. Thanks!

I'm making an afghan like this and I only hope it turns out this good!! If you wouldn't mind passing along your method on joining the squares and also the pattern for the border if posible?? bahensky@msu.edu Thank you!!

To be honest I don't really know how I did the joining, it's been so long now I can remember. It was very simple something like single crochets between every space, I was actually a little unhappy with it because it created a ridge on the back side of the blanket. I added an extra row around the original granny square pattern with 2 large spaces in every corner, and when assembled it created the little star pattern. Again, I did not keep track of exactly what I did but I am sure it was not too complex.

It looks to me like the white border is a combo of sc, dc, and tc. Beautiful blanket and I'm also going to try to make it. Looks like starting from the top left group in white the pattern is 3tc, 3dc, 3sc, 3dc, 3tc with a ch1 between each. Looks like the corners are ch3. It has a beautiful square shape and the center is so round so this is the only way I can see this square shape is achieved.

Genesis Silva, 34, is charged with one felony count of concealing the murder of 33-year-old Brittany Battaglia, his girlfriend of more than a year. Silva also faces a felony count for unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and a misdemeanor for obstructing an officer.

The 4-year-old Brooklyn girl was one of three people hit by stray bullets when someone opened fire during a dispute in Times Square at about 5 p.m. Saturday. Wendy Magrinat, 23, from Rhode Island, was shot in the leg, and a 43-year-old woman from New Jersey was shot in the foot. All are expected to recover.

"She is the strongest person I've ever seen, for a little girl that was just so calm," she told News 4. "I think her being so calm is why officers were able to get her the help she needed as quick as possible."

The square has two monuments, one of which honors of the Girl Scouts and another of a chambered nautilus. The square is also home to the Trinity Methodist Church, which is the oldest Methodist congregation in the city. Architect John B. Hogg designed Trinity Methodist in the Greek Revival style.

I really love these paintings. They are beautiful. I was wondering if you knew any other artists that might have some similar styles. I love the squares and all the colors and how they combined create a larger picture.

I would add to that; if education continues to put all its efforts and rewards into those that fit into the round holes whilst casting the square pegs aside, much of the star quality and difference that is vital for a 'well-rounded' society will be lost along the way.

I am a parent to two square pegs, although personally I have decided to refer to them as star polyhedrons (I have just had to look up that term but I wouldn't be surprised if our younger daughter, who has an amazing grasp of the English language despite her lack of formal education, somehow already knows it). Sasha's potted journey through education has been documented previously via this blog of course, and for anyone interested in finding out more, I can point you towards my post Back to School, or not? but also to the animation she has created and shared on YouTube, describing her experiences. It is simply called 'School.'

For this book, over fifty contributors from across the fields of education, SEND, leadership, pastoral work, social care, mental health, youth work and law have come together to share thoughts and suggestions of what can be done to solve the current issues in the education system. The book begins with a brief summary of their roles and following that is the introduction from Fran. She describes her own daughter's difficult path and explains how this was not a case of 'wouldn't' but instead 'couldn't'. Not choosing to not attend school, but finding it too difficult. This applies for both my girls too. Fran also introduces some statistics around the numbers of children who are persistently absent from school, and those who have faced permanent exclusions. However the point made here is that the data recorded for absences is not detailed enough, so how can we put support in place if we don't fully understand the underlying problem?

This introduction also shares some hard-hitting notes and messages from other square pegs; children who the system has clearly damaged along the way. The cover of the book shares a note from C, age 11, as shown above, but there are others that also bring tears to the eyes. In brave messages that I hope have been read and listened to by others, my children have also shared their thoughts about their school struggles. They would both rather be in school, doing well - here is perhaps a good time to highlight Dr Ross Greene's words, "Kids do well if they can".

If you're wondering how to frost a square cake without crumbs, the answer is a crumb coat. This is a very thin layer of frosting that traps any crumbs that come off the cake so that they don't get through into your final layer of frosting.

You don't want any of this frosting to stick out around the edges of the cake or above the top edge of the cake. If there are bulges, when you chill this before adding your final layer of frosting they'll get cold and hard and be difficult to frost over. Use your offset spatula to push the buttercream over each edge to leave a fairly neat square shape.

Measure and draw a square the same size as your cake plus two centimeters. This will allow for one centimeter of frosting on each side of the cake. If you prefer to work in inches, add one inch. Cut the square out and put it on a piece of parchment paper a few inches bigger than the square.

Final step: use a very sharp knife to slice just underneath the cardboard template. You'll separate the parchment-wrapped cardboard from the frosted cake. It will be easy to lift the square off and you'll leave sharp edges around the top of the cake.

So without any special tools you can bake, assemble and frost a square cake with smooth frosting and sharp edges! I hope this tutorial has been useful. If you enjoyed it, visit my cake school to learn hundreds of cake decorating techniques and designs.

"It was important for the girls so they could see what else is out there besides an hour and a half off their community," which is located about 120 kilometres northwest of Prince Albert, said Cromartie.

Cromartie says the girls experienced Broadway, shopped, watched the Rangers take on the Pittsburgh Penguins and became the first team other than the New York Rangers to practise on their new training ice.

Members from the NHL's Rangers, including former winger Adam Graves, came for the opening. The organization helped provide funding to make the girls' change rooms mimic the ones in Madison Square Garden.

Cromartie says this may not be the last time girls from the Big River First Nation make the trip to the Big Apple, as the hockey program is working on creating a cultural exchange with kids from Harlem.

Carl Muscarello was a retired police officer with the New York City Police Department, who relocated to living in Plantation, Florida. In 1995, he claimed to be the kissing sailor. He claimed that he was in Times Square on August 14, 1945, and that he kissed numerous women. A distinctive birthmark on his hand enabled his mother to identify him as the subject. Edith Shain initially said she believed Muscarello's claim to be the sailor and they even dated after their brief reunion. But in 2005, Shain was much less certain, telling the New York Times, "I can't say he isn't. I just can't say he is. There is no way to tell."[27] Muscarello has described his condition on August 14, 1945 as being quite drunk,[28] and having no clear memory of his actions in the square. He stated that his mother claimed he was the man after seeing the photograph, and he came to believe it.[29] 17dc91bb1f
